B rate musicianship. G&R always sounded like a half-stoned garage band that hit paydirt due to their grunge look...sorta like they hadn't showered in a week. Slash's guitar leads remind me of my little fat friend, Hal Webb from the ninth grade. Little more than a scale player who couldn't shift keys if someone stood behind him and guided him to the proper frets. This band was a disgrace to modern music. Today, they're so burned out that they can't even find their instruments. Our gain.
@charadester Yet to this day, people often imitate but never duplicate; Axl Rose, Slash, Izzy Stradlin, Steven Adler. And yes, to a degree, even Duff.
@charadester Jesus Christ, allow me to quote John McEnroe, "YOU CAN NOT BE SERIOUS?!" Whatever drugs the band did during their entire run, you must have done MORE to make such an asinine statement.
sorry , I understand that you could be a inpertubarble fan. but we should be free to explain te details behind a band, that , nothwithstanding has to make their business. They copied a lot of stuff , but , no daubt they were successful.
just an opinion and everybody should be free to have one. I agree with you that the new guitarplaying is the worst, that`s the reason why a lot of good guitarplayes are going back to the roots. I mean the the 50,60 and 70 s.
this band was allways overrated. I´ve seen them live, and , well ...very commercial . nevertheless, slash is a great guitarplayer.Good technic. But really nothing new in his playing. pentatonic stuff as usual.
@fuelsmell first of all, the "new guitarplaying" is the worst, why cant people start playing like they did in the 80's ? and second of all, guns is the greatest band ever, i havnt heard a single song from them that arn't a really good song, so you just shut your mouth.
commercial ? thats the last thing you can call guns n roses...

@Cheerok Dude, you're so right! Last week I heard a song of MJ with Slash in the solo part and I thought, WtF I thought this was MJ's song, didn't know Slash has ever played with him! and when I searched on youtube, I actually found the version of Mj WITH Slash!
his style is apart from all other guitarists, Once focussed on Slash, you'll never forget his style and recognize it anywhere!
@Cheerok vibrato is a basic guitar technique blah blah blah :D
Vibrato is when you play a note ,with no muting and move your finger across the neck (the same direction you bend the notes) , up and down lots of times ,the rate of moves (up and down) makes note sound like its crashed into small pieces.i think u could do it.its very easy.. :) good luck
@Cheerok i mean i dunno about that part about anyone being able to play like him... i do think anyone can become a good.. hey even great guitar player by putting the time in. it is the personality and emotion that you talk about later on in your comment that makes him sound and play the way he does. and that is not replicable.
@bfitzpatrick1 sure it isnt and you can definetly learn to play such techniques so flawless but to have apersonality shine through your songs is something that just develops your right with that and i actually said that before =D
@Cheerok i know you said it, i mentioned that you did in my comment... my comment was to agree with the part that i said i did in my comment, and to disagree with the part i said i disagreed with... and SLASH ROCKS! and your a SLASH fan too so WE ROCK!
@Cheerok You worded that perfectly man, some people can be amazingly skilled guitar players, but what matters the most is being able to express emotion threw the guitar which slash does perfectly! Another favorite guitar player of mine who does that well is Jerry Cantrell, David Gilmour too!
yeah true but you must differ between the emphasis they put into their playing
wgil satriani for example goes extremely deep into versatility in technique which vai does also
slash goes more into the melodic harmony part
keep this aspect in mind im sure slash could play in the same technique level as vai and satriani but guitar playing is always an expression of the personal feelings
you forgot Petrucci man, the guitarrist of Dream Theater, he is really awesome...
but slash is an amazing musician, and as cheerok said, he doesn't need more thant this, he is a legend playing as he played, Guns n' Roses couldn't found some one better than he...
but off course, there are lots of excelent musicians, but all of than have their own style, and that is what make they legends...
but sure, that's only my opinion...
Ps: sorry about my bad english, greetings from Brasil! ^^

i love it when pleople talk about something they arent doing themselves
i give you that the video for "weapon of choice" by fatboy slim is an awesome piece of music and video
but that alone doesnt make you qualified judging people for a job theyve done for centuries and including slash are still doin
your criticism does mean nothing as long as you can't top their work sir

@Cheerok You worded that perfectly man, some people can be amazingly skilled guitar players, but what matters the most is being able to express emotion threw the guitar which slash does perfectly! Another favorite guitar player of mine who does that well is Jerry Cantrell, David Gilmour too!

@Cheerok Amen to that dude. Greatest comment I have read on the internet about Slash.

hes definitely one of the better players of his time, but not the best dude.
Vai, Satriani, Page, SRV, Hendrix, Brian Carroll

yeah true but you must differ between the emphasis they put into their playing
wgil satriani for example goes extremely deep into versatility in technique which vai does also
slash goes more into the melodic harmony part
keep this aspect in mind im sure slash could play in the same technique level as vai and satriani but guitar playing is always an expression of the personal feelings
and thats why they differ
for example sinister gates from avenged sevenfold

listen to the song "Sidewinder"
fully through you'll hear him punch out his "usual" power metal stuff but in the middle there's a long bridge in which he plays Spanish guitar
and thats where you see how versatile he really is when it comes to technique

@Cheerok I wasn't able to find the song "Sidewinder". Do you have a link for it?

you forgot Petrucci man, the guitarrist of Dream Theater, he is really awesome...
but slash is an amazing musician, and as cheerok said, he doesn't need more thant this, he is a legend playing as he played, Guns n' Roses couldn't found some one better than he...
but off course, there are lots of excelent musicians, but all of than have their own style, and that is what make they legends...
but sure, that's only my opinion...
Ps: sorry about my bad english, greetings from Brasil! ^^

Great song. I've played this for many years on piano. Very few people know it.

Axl Rose... The story of a man who had everything, and who messed up almost all of what he had. We still love you Axl.

Tell me please why is it you said that because thats the typical comment of someone who thinks to know but doesnt.
Joaco11114 2 years ago
Sorry, I don't wanna argue. I'm just a big fan of the GNR, and I feel really sad about what happened to this band. That's all you have to know mate.

I love GN'R almost as much as Black Sabbath. I will always love Axl, I just wish that he would have realized what he had
