  • What is it about her that makes me want to hug her and not let go for hours? She's too real. She makes you feel ok about being who you are.

Whatever she's got, she's got no reason to guard...

  • i can't believe 8 people "Disliked" this video.

  • This is so special

  • what is wrong with you people? do you have anything knowledgeable to say about this video? holy fuck

  • Who raped her? It was probably a date rape right???

  • perseverance :)

  • ¡Te quiero con todo mi corazón Fiona Apple!

  • She wouldn't be as good if she were an orange.

  • The yellow to orange to red to brown sheet next to her at 0:33 on is also the bedsheet in the Criminal video. Weird !

  • she was raped about 5 years after this ;(

  • @sTapleEVA as fucked up as that is i was thinking the same thing

  • @ghostwhiskey That's what I was thinking too. :(

  • @ThumbprintTheatrics that seems too personal for us to know about but it was her choice to tell people i guess

  • her eyes show an old soul. Love me some Apple.

  • she's playing in D Minor

    it is the saddest chord...

  • @ben909ben "the saddest of all keys" i she playing lick my love pump

  • Real?? In what way? Its obviously her as a child, how much more real do you want??

  • Has this been verified as real?

  • @talkingtravis Look at her eyes. They are completely the same. The same look and the same emotion can be felt from her eyes back when she was a child to the Fiona Apple we love today.

  • @talkingtravis, this video was posted on her official website at the time of Extraordinary Machine release.

  • aww

  • wow. Amazing find! Thanks so much for posting this! Wonderful!

  • "AHH.. finally.. her first composition! we we're starting to worry.. " ;-)

  • How could anyone hit the thumbs down button? Seriously? Its for those people Fiona write her songs.

  • widdle Fiona is just adorable.

But seriously, she was talented for such a small child and it really is amazing to hear her "sound" developing so early.

  • She's so SERIOUS!

  • why is this bringing tears to my eyes?

  • A true Virgo and I love her for being true to her natural tone and energy. And never changing who she is from day one of her spark. So beautiful to watch this glimpse into her early days.

  • Genius.

  • even at a young age you can see the eerie chord progression in her work but a talent from young. and seeing it progess as she got older xxx <3

  • It's not her first composition.....it's just the first one she can remember 0:53

  • @Appleholic1 im sure if she was willing to speak out she would tell you she remembers past lives, shes reincarnated many times. eyes are the seat of the soul and her eyes say many past lives and many past knowleges.

  • @TEEWEE01 I agree completely!!!! I just wrote something about her eyes showing that she has an old soul.

  • Sounds like a John Carpenter soundtrack

  • COOOOOOOOOOOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Can we get a love button?

  • :')

  • Even at that childhood age you could hear the brilliance and the darkness in her creativity

  • beautiful child :)

  • she is very talented ! nice :)

  • An die MUSIK!!!!

  • i love it..she is beautiful..her music is beautiful..amazing

  • What exactly did she say at 0:52 as a reply to the compliment from the adult? Please? :)

  • @sparklysparks77 "mm, the first song i can remember"

  • @samanthalang1 Thank you, Samantha. I truly appreciate your help!

  • Yep, those winners. You can see them at the starting gate.

  • So beautifull child!!!

  • 0:47 when she smiles...... melts my heart.

  • Damn, my first song was "cluck, cluck, cluck goes the chicken."

  • Awww she's amazing. She's always been amazing xoxo :)

  • Who knew an Olsen twin could be so talented.

  • amazing. just, i cant even believe it

  • Genius

  • Man, I love what she is.

  • @whathoney73 a thousand times yes!!

  • The first clip sends shivers down my spine, hearing and seeing a young kid playing something like that!

  • I made my son watch this with me and he was like " oh my god" and he hardly blinked!!

    God I love her!!!

Can't wait till she starts touring again.

  • thanks so much for this one

  • Did you see in one of her interviews (Late, Late Show) that she is depressed after playing a song for somebody, even as a child, because the world didn't light up? The man talking to her didn't tell her it was good. He just said that's her first composition.

On Howard Stern interview she says kids and a teacher thought she was ugly. No she wasn't.

  • Funny, It Sounds as If She's Playing Her Childhood Composition ( as an Adult ) :) and Then The Last Bit of Parting Gift :) .Wonderful. Thank You Fiona :)

  • She's so adorable and talented! She almost looks exactly the same too. :D

  • proof that she is a natural, love her to pieces

  • People are just born with the spirit of music.. in every era there have always been icons.

  • the first one was awsome, very awsome

  • karaka, ela é phoda mesmo!

  • omg that look at 0:48 :D

  • Cute ^^

  • She's amazing.

  • 0:48

  • @dapeyr 0:47 I L♥ve HER

  • I love her! Interesting how she was so intense, even as a child.

  • Qué linda

  • That is so cool :) I loved watching this!

  • this is very heart warming

  • Who posted this? Fiona or one of her relatives?

(She has the same movements when she plays - rocking back and forth, cocking her head. She has really gorgeous, haunting eyes.)

  • she was so cute! what a kid genius

  • she is great! lov her

  • She was lucky to have such a father

  • even at an early age her music had melancholy tones to it

  • That first song is serious business. I love it...a foreshadowing of what was to come.

  • what did she say after her dad said it was her first composition?

  • I think, "The first one I can remember"

    maybe. It's hard to tell

  • Fiona with her acid humor since she was a kid... Brilliant :D

  • she has very big hands for a little girl..i guess it was meant to be

  • She was so advanced and articulate even at 6 . . . truly something special

  • 1:39 AN DIE MUSIK!!!!!!

  • amazingly beautiful.. It would be nice to hear just her non vocal music.. just her Piano playing.

  • Awe...so beautiful Fiona!

    Hugs!

  • It restates the negativeness of the universe. The hideous lonely emptiness of existence. Nothingness. The predicament of man forced to live in a barren, godless eternity like a tiny flame flickering in an immense void with nothing but waste, horror and degradation, forming a useless bleak straitjacket in a black absurd cosmos.

  • i agree. but shes still adorable.

  • awwh, nihilism ;]

  • ah! you know your woody very well... ;-)

  • @mbrunoz Right, she's the tiny flickering flame that represents meaning in that barren, godless eternity...

  • The song reflects her personality even as a child.

  • :)

    virgos tend to be intellectuals.

  • La mamada!!!!!!!!

  • Haha! She is such a virgo! Not only that but you can see it in her lyrics... the detail, they way that every line has meaning and works perfectly... she is so meticulous. :D

  • she truly is the quintessential virgo.

  • Yeah her sun, moon, venus, etc is in virgo. That would explain that

  • lol, like scientifically?

  • I totally think she should take this and add words to it.

  • It's already a famous art song by Schubert.....cute comment, though!

  • The song she starts playing at 1:30 you mean?

Do you have any idea which composition by Schubert that is?

  • the purity in this footage is so beyond... that it creates tears streaming out of this universe we are all in!

  • true a lot of people like flashy videos, shiny clothes..etc. but that to me is what pop has always been... the lyrics arent really meant to inspire anyone. mostly just upbeat dance songs meant to be fun...if i were a radio programmer i'd be in trouble for turning fiona into a popular artist with radio b/c i'd play her songs to much and i guess i want everyone to enjoy her as much as i do .. true some pop artists get turned into a product..though

  • damn!

  • She puts so much emotion in her music, doesn't matter whether she sings or play the piano, that's one of the reasons I love her so much.

  • for some wierd reason, it makes me a little bit sad. i guess because its so beautiful...

  • wow thats impressive! I wish i was as musically gifted as her

  • She's wonderful.

  • so real, so moving. great video, thanks for uploading

  • the part at 6 years old is the most chilling - so much talent and sensibility!! amazing, and when she answers "first one i can remember", correcting her dad so funny!

they must have known they had a genius on their hands

  • haha pop viewers...i think its lame to say that u wouldnt like her so much if she had number 1 hits...just like the music no matter how famous or not she is...i used to b like that .not like someone if they were britney spears status..but then i thought .hey its ok to like the song...its not the their own fault they become so popular..and u can like those big time artist w/o falling into all the hype..

  • number !hit................. so funny.... did you see this video and you didnt know what are you seeing, i guess that youre even think about it... its not pop sweety... is the greater musician for that one who know what im talking about... go to listen MMMbopp, be sorry with yourself honestly

  • i think youre response is for the wrong person... or read my comment wrong i never said she was pop, i was responding to someone speaking about pop artist and not liking her if she was a huge pop artist with many number 1 hits

  • so sweet

  • so what you're saying is, if extraordinary machine had sold a billion copies and not about love was a number one hit, you wouldn't like her as much? that's weird

  • she was going to say that a section of that song was just like the part in "parting gift" before it was cut off

  • When she was little she looks like she could be related to MaryKate and Ashley...

  • awesome..

  • soooooooooooo cute!!!!

  • what was she going to say?!?!

  • so cute... love you Fiona!!!

  • i love her!

  • She is amazing. Not of this world. And I remember this one: "I know that sorrow is the only strength. Neither earth nor hell can sink their teeth into..."

  • It's fantastic that Fiona didn't waste that God given talent. I have known people that had promise but never cultivated their talent or were held back for one reason or another. So you parents out there, if your child has artistic or musical predilections let them run with it if they so desire. Fiona is a prime example of what positive reinforcement can do in a person's life!

  • "God given talent" is also called "lots of practice".

  • what's the name of the song that she plays when she's eight?

  • She's always had those piercing eyes.

  • Okay my heart has officially melted. That face right at about 47 seconds...and then how about the part where she says...mmm first one I can remember?! What a doll. So talented! If you haven't seen her playing Never is a Promise LIVE...It's a must!!!!! Chilling!!! Incredible!!!!

  • Fiona is the best since Caren Carpenter.

  • Haha, I love her fingernails in the second clip.

What a cutie, not much has changed!

  • she's so beautiful. but does this make anyone else kinda sad?? atleast the beginning song?

  • it made me cry! such a beautiful expression of growth and honest humanity, what we can become

  • What is that song she plays before she starts playing parting gift. Does anyone know?

  • it's called "an die musik" by franz schubert

  • @umovelikehoney

    Hey there

this response is 2 years late but the answer is "an die musik" by franz schubert... circa 1817 =) sheet music is widely available online if you're interested.

  • i love the look she gives the camera at 1:16 Its soo funny........I wonder where someone would find this.......

  • I can't wait for some new stuff

  • i love apple

  • wow. b

  • What An Extraordinary Machine!

  • omg

  • Oh merci! La plus jolie vidéo de mon coeur.

  • How fortunate we are, thank you Fiona

  • Look at those eyes at 0:48! She's a special soul.

  • holy crap..when she was 6 she was so much better then me! :O

    Fiona Apple Rocks! ^_^

  • que niña tan bonita *_*

ahora es una extraordinaria mujer =)

  • please, remind me of this the next time I'm feeling the human species is hopeless...

  • omg that was amazing! i wish i could have 1/2 her talent!

  • Perfect and beautiful girl, so talented....

    I'm in loveeeeeeeeee whit her,

Her songs are so strongs and all have a great meaning for me!!

  • what a dazzling artist. amen to her.

  • si :)

  • amazing...!

  • She once said on some late show that every time she finishes a song, she expects the world to become bigger and brighter with joy: you can sort of see that in her smile when she's six, and the dissapointment, when her dad soesn't praise her.

  • brilliant human being

  • She was such an adorable girl! And amazingly talented. I love her so much <3

  • amazing....she's unreal

  • This goes right up there with little Tori playing the piano. Classic.

  • I'll just pretend you're joking.

  • Si...

    yeah!

  • Best female songer of our time by far

  • This is amazing!

  • ugh. cliffhanger! wheres part deux? lol

  • fiona!<3

  • ...And I'm still kinda miffed that Kelly Clarkson got the Grammy over Fiona! I like Kelly too, she's a good singer and all, but Fiona was clearly the superior writer in that entire crop of nominees.

  • I LOVE her heart-melting grin at 0:48 when she looks up, as if she's seeking approval. I kept rewinding and playing that part over and over. She's so cute and so intense...I love it.

  • Wow.

  • what a video, it really made me cry.
