Wow, that 944 looks damn clean, she sure looks like she' se in the right hands. Keep it in these conditions, and You'll have her for a couple more years ;-)
The same cost for any avg car that uses synthetic oil ... avg syn. oil costs about 6-8 bucks per quart, times 6 quarts plus 10 dollar oil filter, there ya go.
I'm all for looking original, etc, but now that you have the engine gone through, put some nice staggered wheels on that baby. 944 turbos look sooooo good with staggered performance wheels ...
Yes, the engine is in the front, the clutch/flywheel assy is right behind it, thats connected to a drive shaft that connects to the transaxle which is located between the rear wheels.
@Piperporsche180944 It's a torque tube, not a driveshaft. Haha, and they're a bitch and a half to rebuild. But hey, why pay $1500 for a new one when you can rebuild it with higher grade bearings for $400?
Forgive me for the improper use of words. Haha. You have a point, they are a pain, but the power is efficiently put to the ground! Porsche did a great job! Do you rebuild torque tubes?
@Piperporsche180944 I see you found my car. It has the 2.5 still here. This is before I bought it. Yeah they are a real bitch to rebuild( the torque tube), but worth it. A new one is just ridiculous. Funny tho, even pro porsche mechanics call it a driveshaft sometimes. Haha
When I pull the engine out this winter to stroke it out to 2.8L I may just do it as a preventative measure along with a Spec Stage 2 Clutch. I better do it while I have it out.
@Piperporsche180944 LOL your like me. If its apart....might as well rebuild it. Some people are the opposite, if its not broke dont fix it. I think I may bore out, and sleeve one of my trashed 2.5 blocks to 3.1(106mm and 968 crank). To put in the 93' gp white 968. Hate to bore on a perfectly good 968 block. Especially, when I have 2 complete 2.5's collectin dust. Dont have to fuss with coolant passages, or source a more and mroe rare 2.7 head. Just drill pistons squirters.
That sounds like a fantastic plan to build the 3.1! I decided on the 2.8L because it requires no engine machining, such as boring out the cylinders. Sadly my project is price dependent and must retain a relatively low budget. Im interested in the information regarding the head, could you send me a PM and explain? Thanks!
I own the car now. Currently undergoing a 3.0 liter turbo conversion, and full suspension restoration, kw variant 3's on the corners. everything but tranny will be new.
