Does no one read the game book? They tried to keep Amaterasu genderless in the game (Okami), then it was made VERY clear in Okami Den that Ammy was Chibi's mother, and Shiranui was Chibi's Grandfather (thus, Ammy's dad or something). There. Oh! And Chibi is a male. There! End of the war!

That's not the only one. Throughout the whole game, the text constantly says "she", "her", "mother", "goddess", etc. Those who argue haven't played the game enough, or didn't read at all. What a shame. Also, BraveVesperia is right, the whole game is based on Japanese mythology, so, all the answers should be there.

@SaoryEmanoelle Shiranui was the name given by the people of Kamiki Village since they didn't know her original name =). She was always Amaterasu, but people named her Shiranui first to refer to her as the white wolf who wandered at night.

Shiranui is a way older then Amy. Chibi's father is probably another okami from colestial plain.
Amaterasu is neither. S/he is only referred to as a She in the english version because it makes things easier. In Japan, they do not have to use he or she, so it makes it simpler. And as for the "arching the leg while peeing thing," it's not a gender thing, it's a RANK thing. The alpha dog will do that in a pack, even if it's female.

The way I see it, Ammy is genderless, but we use female pronouns for lack of a better alternative. She is based on the Japanese god Amaterasu, who appears female, but she too is genderless. Just leaning more toward the female side of things.

I can't believe this video would even be NEEDED. If you've ever played the game, watched an Lp, or know ANYTHING about japanese mythology this debate would be null and void. It mentions within the game by calling Amaterasu a she. And it has also mentioned that Amaterasu is the Sun Goddess. GODDESS! That means FEMALE god. Hence the point of this argument being completely pointless and more than likely for some VERY sexist reasons.

yes, Okami Amaterasu is female, Issun refers to her as her and she, and when you get a new brush technique, she is called a mother to us all. and Okami Amaterasu isnt a males name. But yes, Shiranui is male, just dont get the two mixed up...

@xMelitax Shiranui is male and he was the first okami. After he was gone Ameterasu came like his female reeborn. SAkuya did wake her up from Shiranuis statue though. People always ask her does she remember that and that, maybe she should or shouldn't. I played okamiden too, Chibiterasu is Amaterasu's son, and he is refered like Shiranuis grandson. Shiranui is a way older then Amy. Chibi's father is probably another okami from colestial plain.

Amaterasu is neither. S/he is only referred to as a She in the english version because it makes things easier. In Japan, they do not have to use he or she, so it makes it simpler. And as for the "arching the leg while peeing thing," it's not a gender thing, it's a RANK thing. The alpha dog will do that in a pack, even if it's female.

The way I see it, Ammy is genderless, but we use female pronouns for lack of a better alternative. She is based on the Japanese god Amaterasu, who appears female, but she too is genderless. Just leaning more toward the female side of things.

The Lord of Heaven (God, Yahweh, whatever you want to call him) is genderless, but male when taking on human form, thus making him male (sorta). Almost every female dog I've seen raises her leg to pee. And Ammy could be lesbian, or just going crazy because of Rao's big boobs--even I'd do that, and I'm strait!
