no is heavyer than virtualbox BUT has more capabilities like the capacity to partially activate 3d aceleration

Vmware is not Free.
Virtual Box is Free.
Vmware has more capacities of Virtualization, but for most users are going to use.
Virtual Box is not so powerfull, but if you dont have money is a great option.
Theres others like Xen, KVM or BOSCH.

It runs decent, on the video it runs slow due the fact i recording the video at the same time and Beryl is running at the background.
Bigger memory can definitely increase the performance of the system.
I have 512MB and i set that Windows XP will have 256MB, I guess 1GB of ram will give excellent performance.
