  • why overtake on the right when the view to your left ( of the car is obscured ) ?

  • @1Gsxrider He is allowed to filter through the cars - it's completely legal. It's just a shame that she chose to cross at a non-pedestrian-controlled crossing point.

  • @bewilderedkettle yes as a motorcyclist i know this ... and i was looking at this video from that standpoint ... not saying filtering is illegal i was just saying that you have to look through cars and not go around anything that you can't see around

  • @1Gsxrider As a fellow biker you are so right. Dont ride where you cant see whats happening. That could have been a child running out in the road. But saying that cycles have there own rules they should be registered and have number plates and ALL pay insurance......

  • @ktm640 Yeah not sure im in total agreement ... reason being that there are too many bad drivers out there , and by charging insurance it would loose its appeal as a cheap / affordable alternative to buying a car. Funny because i was in a situation the other week entering a roundabout where a driver ( instead of looking right through the window of the car next to hers ) decided to take some sort of leap of faith and pull straight out infront of me ,luckily i managed to avoid hitting her

  • i feel we all could make this mistake- would i be checking on my right AFTER the cars have stopped to look for things overtaking on the far side of the vehicles? no, id be looking to my left at the traffic thats still moving.

  • still bad overtaking......rules of the road

  • always expect the unexpected..

  • Kmcyc, and andywizkid have just checked and you're absolutely right apologies for my mistake!!

  • @Cuteyclaire1981

You're welcome, thank you. And thanks for taking the time to check the Highway Code.

  • Meet Sally...she has the overwhelming talent of finding the worst possible place to cross the road.

  • it was an accident... everyone was taking risks.

  • That's called jaywalking in this country. But I thought cyclist had to follow the rules of the road.

  • @chuckbyf1

There would have been no problem with my overtake, had this lady not stepped into my path. In this country bikes are permitted to filter, which essentially means overtake, on either side of stationary traffic. Ordinarily I would have opted for the cycle lane but on this morning it was blocked by motor vehicles illegally.

  • At the beginning of the clip the silver cars makes exactly the same manoeuvre as the cyclist makes. Pedestrian at fault for not looking both ways when crossing traffic.

  • @Group51

When I look back at this video, I can't help thinking the whole piece was caused by the pedestrian's choice of where to cross the road. She has made the traffic stop for her but only on one side of the road, meaning she has to wait in the middle until the other side also stops. She is also yards away from a pedestrian controlled crossing point. And as you say, she failed to check that the way was safe as she'd handed that responsibility over to the driver of the red car.

  • Cyclists are not meant to fucking ride in the middle of the roads, I suggest you use the BIKE LANE in future!!!

  • @Cuteyclaire1981

Drivers are not meant to drive in/park in/block cycle lanes. Pedestrians are meant to look both ways before crossing the road.

  • @kmcyc It's always rough when you have to ride into oncoming traffic because you don't feel like stopping

  • @Cuteyclaire1981

I'd check the high way code again......any road user wishing to overtake should always do so on the right of vehicles!! cyclists shouldnt go up the near side of vehicles as this is how they get knocked of by motorists!

  • @andywizkid and that explains why they have cycle lanes on left of road.. not.

  • Consider the pedestrian. Once she had reached the middle of the road, she is now focussed solely on cars coming the other way (ie direction red car was travelling). Its probably not going to be on the back of her mind, that perhaps some impatient cyclist in a rush will be using an oncoming lane to get 10m ahead in traffic.

If you are going to do risky things like you did, you should expect the unexpected.

  • Is that legal, the way you went to overtake stopped traffic by using the oncoming lane? Becaus ewhere I'm from it is.

Even still it was very dangerous of you, considering there was clearly oncoming traffic (i.e. the red car - you're very lucky it was paying attention to your dangerous actions and stopped rather than hit you).

  • maybe you shouldn't have been flying up the middle of stationary traffic, idiot.

  • hahah nice

  • she thinks the road is just for her ,,,JUST LIKE YOU....

  • @shivanj1

Had the cycle lane not been blocked by drivers who thought they owned the road...

Had the driver of the red car (oncoming) not waved the lady across the road...

Had the lady in question chosen a sensible place to cross and checked the road was clear for herself...

The only part of the road I feel I own is the bit under my 4 or 2 wheels or 2 feet, whatever mode of transport I've chosen at the time. The clue is in the name 'Public Highway'

  • OMG God but it was a poor crossing place, lack of vision etc. What happened after that?

  • Not much. I tried to point out what a stupid place it was to cross the road but as far as she was concerned she'd already apologised and so the conversation was over. I picked up the bike and we went our separate ways.

  • At least she admitted liability...

  • omg i cross there :P

  • Just think, if you had been able to access the cyclelane you might have avoided her.

Still she is obviously an idiot, it could be a motorbike next, lol. That'll hurt her more.

  • Yep, use of the cycle lane would have been preferable and would have avoided the accident. The lady in question would have been away to my right and could have safely crossed the road when the oncoming red car beckoned her to do so, thus removing the need for her to think for herself...
