  • Busby. Liverpool captain, where he learnt his trade

  • Red! ffs come with us!

  • With the utmost respect to both legends Shankly and Busby, Sir Alex Ferguson has to by now be regarded at the greatest manager of all time.

  • liverpool and united are proper teams, now look what's happening in football with the likes of chelsea, madrid and now city, its a disgrace

  • i would have loved to see bill shankly give fergie a glasgow kiss and put him in his place

  • Im a scouser, married to a Manchester girl worked in Manchester all my life - Both cities have many lovely people, decent, honest folk. Both have great football clubs, real fans have always ignored the brainless morons who spout bollocks. Good hearted footy banter between us has been a great laugh and long may it peacefully continue.

  • these men are legends. it sullys either club to attack a king with pawns.

  • Nice to see a page on Youtube involving United and Liverpool where both sets of fans are being civil towards each other and not denigrating the other's history. Both men were phenomenal managers.

  • at least shankly didn't say our fans were shite like fergie did to you lot..

  • RIP Shanks

    From a Man United supporter.

  • I wonder how Busby would have dealt with with Rooney?

  • i hate man u with a passion, but i respect what theyve done in the game. like us, they have an illustrious history, and that, i cant deny. y.n.w.a. l.f.c till i die!

  • Nice to hear some of these comments from good decent fans. I'm a liverpool fan born and bred scouser and my dads a utd fan born and bred manc ( you can imagine the banter).

Anyway I have respect for the likes of Busby, Charlton, Best and Giggs. Shame how our clubs are now ran though. One thing we as clubs have that can never be tainted or taken away is our history, and what history!

  • obviously Rafa haven't lernt Shankly´s facts,

  • Epic. But what's with the unnerving Kubrick-like music? Maybe you should get rid of it as it's a little distracting.

  • Nice to see so many positive comments on here from my fellow United fans and liverpool fans. yes we may hate the crap out of each other but there will always be that little respect in our history, tradition etc.

RIP Sir Matt Busby and Bill Shankly.

  • Two great managers two great football clubs and two great northern cities. Both blighted by tradgies, both having some scumbags fans who sing about it. Both have claims to being english sides and both are currently owned by greedy yank bastards. GOD NO WONDER WE HATE EACH OTHER SO MUCH. Rip the busby babes and the 96 LUHG

  • SIR Alex Ferguson,SIR Matt Busby....Bob Paisley,Bill Shankley----SPOT THE DIFFERENCE

  • @CumaUnitedRoad three of those four either played or managed Liverpool?

  • @CumaUnitedRoad yes 2 managed liverpool and the other 2 managed/manage the manc's

  • @CumaUnitedRoad

Yeah the Establishment darlings, like bending over for the Royals!! Nothing to be proud of just ashamed!! YNWA!

  • SIR Matt busby,SIR alex ferguson...Bob paisley,Bill shankly----SPOT THE DIFFERENCE

  • Gandhi said there's no religion higher than the truth.

  • Liverpool fan here,Shanks was never biased,He spoke from the heart, even though he was talking about his closest friend and not just in football. These two had enormous respect for each other. Two giants of managers.

  • I hate it when some Man U fans berate everything about Liverpool FC and likewise when LFC fans insult MUFC. Why can't we all just follow the the example of these two LEGENDARY men and have a gentleman's rivalry compared to the hooliganism we have today. To the real Man U fans, YNWA, a loyal Kopite.

  • I think this shows what kind of a character Shanks was and that he was humble. This is why Fergie won't be respected in the same way as Busby, Shankly, and Clough.

  • Scottish mangers have always been the best.

  • @eojbhoy67 true that. it's their straightforward no none sense attitude that makes them so i think.

  • He wasn't though but it was nice of shanks to say so!

  • It is nice to see that these two great human beings, Shankly and Busby, still in their death bring people together! From a United fan!

  • Im a Liverpool Red for 46 years & I hate utd with a passion, but I respect their past & history. I totally agree with the last few posts. However, that mutual respect that TheSugar1983 talks about &

starryian007 is bang on with what they say. But thats gone. Fergusson has brought a nasty, bitter streak to the game. I know Benitez has been a p**ck as well. Bring back football, not over paid ballarinas falling over a blade of grass in the box & players with no loyalty to Our "religion"!!

  • What would these 2 Legends have done to the league IF they had the millions to spend managers have today??

Imagine these Gentlemen including Bob Paisley, Jock Stein, Don Revie and Brian Clough, shaping the game as we now know it..........British Teams would be untouchable.

Two honourable gentlemen, with the greatest respect for each other. Thank you for what you both did for the game

  • shankly, busby, jock stein, ferguson...the best. All Scots aswell.

  • well i am a united fan and i have to say fair play to shankly. he is no doubt up in the top 5 managers ever along with Sir Alex, Bob Paisley, Bill Shankly and Brian Clough.

I hate liverpool badly too obviously but just respect the dead, its only fair. i wouldnt dream of mocking hillsborough just like i wouldnt expect munich to be mocked.

  • At this time, football was still a "human being story"...

  • Well said sir,

It is something that today's game sadly lacks.

Sportsmanship, fairplay and managers that can see both sides of the coin.

If only we could get that back into sport, what a far better place football would be at.

  • "Mocking Munich and Hillsborough is just unacceptable" - Agreed, I am LFC through and through, and I do not like United, but I would never ever sing about the Munich Air Disaster.

  • Here here. As much as us red's dislike each other mocking tradigies like hilssborough and munich is just not acceptable.

  • i agree totally..

i hate Liverpool but who would we have to compete with if they weren't there.?

but, still they were both great managers and men of the people.

when Shankly passed away, Matt Busby was so distraught he wouldnt take calls and couldnt dpeak about it.

    2 Great Legends.. RIP

  • Matt Busby was a Liverpool player and captain. In today's world of LFC V MUFC hatred, that's almost completely forgotten. Even your opening comment "I hate Liverpool" proves it. Shankly rose above anyone.

  • Shankly, Paisley, Busby, Ferguson are the 4 greatest managers in British football history.

  • @danlfc1983

    Could've agreed more.

  • Jock Stein aswell.

  • Brian Clough, Don Revie and Jock Stein should be added to that list too, but with all due respect, Ferguson would be at the foot of the list, not because of Man Utd, but he's no where near the class of the others

  • @danlfc1983 Got to add Jock Stein and Brian Clough to that list kiddo

  • @danlfc1983 Stein, Ferguson, Busby, Shankly,and Paisley.

  • Two legends!

  • It's only fitting that the two greatest managers to have ever lived, managed the two greatest football teams in English football. Although I do find it funny how Busby played for Manchester United's rivals in his playing days (City and Liverpool)

  • Liverpool and Manchester at this time had a healthy admiration for one another. They were both northern teams, many of them played together in the England team and often socialised together. Often the crowd would -somewhat begrudgingly - applaud a piece of skill or a skillful goal by their opponents. Can you see that happening today?

With todays game there are elements in it that are ugly and unacceptable.

I say bring back sportamanship and goodwill to all clubs.

  • @starryian007 too late my friend the corporations own the game

    its a business

now its millionaire A team vrs millionaire 2 team

no loyalty just money and how much can we squeeze from the blind fools

    i dont follow football anymore

prefer to watch the kids play in the park thats real!

  • @starryian007

Totally agree with that, i have to say alex ferguson certainly doesn't help matters. Ferguson was the one who started this hatred off by saying what he did about the perch, no other united manager said such an awful thing and certainly no other liverpool manager would EVER say such a thing.

  • @starryian007 r u fuckin jokin?

  • @starryian007 there's no "sportsmanship" in football nowadays - it's all about business !

  • @starryian007

Sorry but Liverpool would have been the first British club to win the European cup in 1964 if it wasn't for dodgy Italian officials this has been proven, it's debatable who planted which ever seeds! Our clubs are rivals and that's how i wish it to remain, but saying that Matt and Bill were the greats of our game!! I can't stand your club but respect the great Matt Busby.

  • both legends. end of

  • ferguson and his ilke build teams with millions of pounds at their diposal.

Shankly and Busby, especially Shankly, built bastions of football from very little, using pride, passion honesty and bloody hard work. Things sadly lacking in todays selfish game.

  • Two perfect gentlemen who fully deserved their success.

  • any1 remember fergie was gonna be fired had we not the cup?!?! best manager in the world 2day maybe?? any1 agree?

  • he would have been sacked if they hadnt of beaten notts forest where would manchester united be now if he was sacked that day who knows??

  • Well said Shanks and in all fairness you were a great manager yourself and like Matt Busby a very modest man.A big loss to the game when you retired suddenly after 1974 Cup Final.

  • They were the best of friends of friends off the pitch which is sad because you don't really see that today. Shankley had huge respect for Busby and Busby was distraught when Shanks died. Both great managers and both great men

  • Bill Shankly said that because although they were rivals on the pitch, the two were best friends off it.

  • fergusan will go down as a great, end of story, rafa will certainly not

  • Like it or not,sir alex fergusan will go down as one of the greats alongside sir matt, shankly . The amount of trophies hes won at united in the last 20 odd years is amazing,He is fantastic with all managers, especailly of those of lower league clubs, the likes of benitez will never be a great manager, hes won very little at liverpool in his 6 years there, plus hes arrogant and disrespectful to many

  • Fergusan will go down as a great his record speaks for itself but how how much did fergusan win in his first 6 years at man utd, it takes time for a manager to become great. Benitez jst needs time he has already proven he can win major titles.

  • fergusan will be considered a great along with matt busby and shankly,

  • Absoulute rubbish, sir alex fergusan will go down as a great along with the likes of sir matt, and shankly, Fergusan is very respectful of fellow managers, and offers support and advise to managers all over the country, benitez will never be looked on as a great manager, for the facts that hes achieved very little at anfield, his arrogance and bitterness etc

  • ALL HAIL KING SHANKS AND SIR MATT!!!

Without them, Liverpool FC and Manchester United FC would not have become the two most successful, greatest English clubs in the history of football!!! (greatest clubs in football, possibly)

  • Can't think of a bigger honer, of being managed by Matt Busby..

  • God bless you Shanks. Warrior poet, hero, legend. We will never see your like again.

    Gerry

    MUFC supporter.

  • I love the way Bill Shankly speaks, how he accents certain words and always sounds completely passionate. He could be talking about a croquet player and I would be hooked. Very inspirational!

  • Mr Busby was a great Manager, a real gentleman, as much as i dislike MUFC he was a man of total humility. He was once asked by a reporter in the late 60's when George Best went awol would he go looking for him? Mr Busby replied: 'he knows where I am.' no one messed around with Sir Matt.

  • even shanks knew it

  • The twats from the SOS should watch this there are a joke

  • rafa goatee can you explain your comments

  • It's a real surprise that neither Shankly nor Paisley were ever knighted.I mean,if someone had won 6 league titles and 3 European cups in today's world, they would surely get knighted,so why did this not happen at that time???

  • I totally agree with you but a possible reason for shanks and paisley not being knighted could be that through the 70's, 80's and 90's football fans and those who followed it were treated like criminals by the police and the authorities so couldnt contradict themselves by knighting a figurehead of the game.

Thats my opinion why they wernt knighted anyways... good comment btw lad.

    YNWA

  • Bollocks to knighting, they should be canonised

  • because people get knighted for almost anything now. even being foul mouthed and arrogant

  • Alex Ferguson will never be remembered as a true great the way Shankly, Busby, Clough are because you'd never hear him speak about his rivals the way Shankly did. You never say Fergie praise Wenger of Benitez.

  • the closest fergie's come t praisin another manager is when he said wenger had done well t stay around so long

  • Actually your wrong, fergie does give credit to arsene wenger also gives credit to david moyes, jim smith, bobby robson etc.The games he plays with benitez and mourinho etc in the past, are all part of winning the modern game. There all at it.With what Sir Alex has achieved with both utd & aberdeen, he definately will be remembered as one of the , if not the best club manager in history.

  • United fan here. Obviously I think Sir Matt is one of footballs true greats- he, in my opinion, was the man who planted the seeds for English football to dominate (European competition, managerial control over the team).

However, I also believe Shankly is another one of the few true footballing greats. A manager with a track record that stands up against ANYONE in world football, who spoke his mind, & above all, was a true football man (That hurt! Haha).

RIP Busby Babes & The 96

  • Those words you have spoken are words of a TRUE Football fan. We all can agree that these 2 men were Legends in not only their lifetime, but for the rest of Eternity. Between them, they shaped the future of Football as we know it today, and we all long for a day for the honour to return, without bringing up past disasters, events and passings of players, supporters and managers.

    Lifelong LFC Fan

Rip the Busby babes and the 96

  • @deejayreload Busby...Shankly...Stein...Ferguson...what great managers scotland had..ahhh.

  • @deejayreload

Sorry, Liverpool would have been the first British club to win the European cup if it wasn't for dodgy Italian officials in1964! Other than that Bill and Matt were greats of our game!

  • @deejayreload

Sorry but Liverpool would have been the first British club to win the European cup in 1964 if it wasn't for dodgy Italian officials, it's debatable who planted which ever seeds! i take your opinion as just that, an opinion. Our clubs are rivals and that's how i wish it to remain, but saying that Matt and Bill were the greats of our game!! I can't stand your club but respect the great Matt Busby.

  • im a united fan and i av 2 say fair play to shanks i thought he would have been like like benitez and disrespected a great manager!!

  • Benitez shows Ferguson no respect because Ferguson, despite his undoubted achievements in football is a bully and a hypocrite and deserves no respect. Busby, Shankley and Paisley were decent and honourable men and can be thought of as Greats IMO

  • nah, paisley was the greatest, never shot down another team unlike shankly although he is still a legend

    and im EFC

  • Even though I don't like liverpool,I gotta say that Bill Shankly was a top man for the scousers, what he and Sir Matt did for their respective clubs were tremendous

  • heres an example of how good shankly was as a manager

imagine crewe alexandra gets a new manager he spends little amount of money on close by players then in a couple of years they win the premier league now thats what i call a fantastic manager

sadly theres so much disrespect in football it could end up killing it disrespectfull fans who sing munich lampards mum hillbrough 96 should hang themselfs

respect to livi fans and man u fans for that matter rip 96 and busby babes

  • It's more like a new manager coming in at Newcastle and spending a decent amount of money, then them reaching the top 6. It was far easier to do improve a team back then, there was no Champions League cash turning the Top 4 into a closed shop.

  • Great video, both teams whether you like them or not have made the Premier League, the best league in the world.

Remember the 96 and the Busby Babes

  • What a great era that was, with humility and respect between the top clubs and managers.

The schoolboy nonsense between Ferguson and Benitez only breeds more hatred between supporters.

  • the reason man u exists is because of busby

he was probably the greatest manager of all time

  • im a man united fan and i cant believe that Bill Shankley was never knighted like Sir Matt was

  • Its Bill Shankly mate.

  • I think the best British managers post war have been:

Ferguson, Shankly, Paisley, Stein, Clough and Busby. I also have a soft spot for Bobby Robson and rated him highly as well. As a Scot I could never understand why they never made Clough the England manager. Probably due to the fact he would upset the apple cart.

  • busbys was the reason manchester united are famous he took a team from nothing to amazing

without ferguson united would be something like mid table lower

    without busby

man u would be like walsall they would be nothing

  • Sir Matt Busby was the greatest manager ever to boss United, his record speaks for itself along with team he bulit and thoroughly deserved his knighthood. I have no liking for United but I have respect. Mocking Munich and Hillsborough is just unacceptable, I may be Liverpool through and through but.I give credit where credit is due.

R.I.P to the 96 and the Busby Babes

    Respect and mourn together

  • Busby

    Shankly

    Stein

    Legends!

  • Nicely put Carl, couldn't agree more and I'm LFC myself.

  • Little did Shankly knwo that during Busbys days as a Liverpool player he groomed Bob Paisley who went on to dethrone Matt as the greatest.

  • Well done Shankly

  • ah, when Liverpool managers had class and wit

  • When Liverpool managers had class....

  • I am a liverpool supporter but i will say Matt Busby is probably the greatest manager ever. Not only did he build his team up once when he frist started- but twice- after all the trauma of the munich air disaster- then go on to win the leauge twice, the FA cup AND the euorpean cup! Sir Matt- you are the only manager i agree with to have been knighted. I may be a koppite. I may not like man u. But i give credit where its due.

But remember not only did he play for liverpool, ha captained us too!

  • good comment man

  • N My Great Uncle :) Evan Tho I Hate Man 2 2 Guts Cmon Arsenal But Gr8 Man So Says My Family

  • fantastic listenin

    thank you for that

  • Rafael Benitez take note.

  • Compelling man to listen to and rightfully shows respect for Busby but he was wrong only about one thing - HE is the greatest!

  • shankly and busby the 2 greatest managers ever

  • Stein was at least there equal, and they were all the best of friends

  • A great posting thanks. Matt Busby came to give out the awards to our (liverpool school) sports day in the early eighties - I couldn't believe it - everyone was a bit in awe of him.

  • ah a hatred for mancs but a respect for mancs thats what i like great team but full of wankers Y.N.W.A.

  • At Man United, there isn't a player who you think: 'God, I f******* hate him. They're all good lads" - Jamie Carragher

  • the great man was right, total respect about the great sir matt, wot an upload- INCREASE THE PEACE

  • Shankly Knew

  • One thing that really strikes me about listening to old recordings of The Great Bill Shankly is how articulate he was.

For an uneducated man - and I mean this with the greatest respect - he was an incredible communicator.

When he talked - you listened !!

And that's probably the reason why he was such a successful man manager.

He knew how to spot a player too........

  • This statement by Shanks illustrates the deterioration in society, where individualisation and aspiration to affluence and success at any expense has developed to the point of total disregard for anything or one.

Busby, Shankly and Paisley were brought up in the era of real hardship where comradeship and friendship were real in the game.

The impact of modernity has created a very negative world where competition is cuthroat. They were the greats as where the times, pity money took over!

  • How times have changed, Shankley never got out a piece of paper and ranted incoherently at a press conference about anybody...

  • Busby the greatest manager britain ever seen, even Fifa and uefa recognised this .. what he did was remarkable!!

For ever and ever, we follow the boys, of man united the busy babes!

    ""UNITED WILL RISE AGAIN""

    (Harold Hardman charimain 1951-65)

    R.I.P. BABES

  • Mr Bill Shankly

A true Gentleman. Much Respect and love from this football fan. I looked to you like another father.

  • They were both amazing in their own rights... they should be revered with the same respect they showed each other.

Ridiculous how offensive managers are to each other these days i.e. Wenger, Ferguson, Mourinho

Nice to see people like Scolari coming into the English game and displaying outright respect for his fellow pro's.

    RIP Shanks and Busby

  • Hear Hear

  • shankley is the best manager that ever lived.

coz he was a grounds man with no millions brought a team of local lads to the top level.

in a messed up training game, fergie and busby are good but not as good as shankley.

he once said;"Some people believe football is a matter of life and death, I am very disappointed with that attitude. I can assure you it is much, much more important than that."

fergie has his millions shankly had his penny's and shillings.

liverpool then came englands top team.

  • Yeh, but did Shankly have to deal with losing half his championship winning team in a plane crash?

And then rebuild his team again and win the league twice, FA cup and european cup?

Or his football ground being bombed?

Or being read his last rights twice, and then recovering and continuing with managing?

    No.

  • Busby was a Liverpool man.

  • Clough had two second division teams, took one of them to the title, and the other to consecutive European Cups.

Sir Alex Ferguson took a team from near the relegation zone to the pinnacle of English football.

Jock Stein won the Quadruple with a team of local lads.

    Paisley won 3 European Cups

    Saachi revolutionised football tactically.

To say Shankly is the greatest shows ignorance and disrespect to these other greats. Spelling his name "Shankley" disrespects him.

  • also shanks never won the european cup matt busby did. the players busby brought up ie best , edwards , charlton , stiles , coleman , pegg etc etc where better than the ones shanks brought up.

  • matt busby in the greatest manager of all time even shankly admits it. firstly he brough through the finest young players ever creating the team of the centuary. then rebuilding a shattered team to win the european cup and various other things

  • Yes because he learnt from Shanks, he was Liverpool Captain as a player as well.

  • with me being a kopite, i like the rivallry between man utd & ourselves but hate all the sick comments about munich, hillsborough etc that u often find on youtube & other sites. as 'slater 071' says, matt busby was our captain throughout the 1930's & was at the club 4 a long time. i'm only 28 but hate the uneducated idiots who probably werent even around 20 yrs ago, that make sick comments about shanks & sir matt. dont get me wrong, i dont like man utd but i'll give credit where it's due.

  • Well its nice to see your attitude. The Munich and Hillsborough comments sicken me, it goes way beyond football rivalry.

  • Absolutley its disgracefull what some knobheads write about the munich disaster and hillsborough.what makes me laugh though is how this is video is all about how much respect two rival managers have for eachother and then people come on saying aw he's shit or hes a blox!completley missing the point of the video!

  • The two were great great friends... It's very ironic really... Considering the hatred going on today... You wonder is it necessary really. Banter is always good... But the true hatred?

It's amazing the amount of people who don't realise that Busby played for Liverpool!

    RIP Shanks,

    YNWA

  • He didnt just play for Liverpool, he captained the side. Man Utd fans either dont know or conveniently forget this.

  • @rashersmark you're right, no need for the hatred

  • I'm a Liverpool fan and I agree with 123aidankirrane321. There will never again be another Shankly or Busby. Give either one of them the time and money that Sir Alex has and there's no end to what they could have done for both clubs. (LFC 4 the PREM- 2008/2009)

  • The thing is that Bill Shankly, Bob Paisley and Sir Matt Busby all had tremendous respect for each other and Sir Alex and King Kenny Dalglish used to openly cuss each other on the pitch when Liverpool and Manchester United went head to head back in the day. (I'm a Liverpool fan. LFC 4 the PREM- 2008/2009)

  • You know the reason for that maybe the fact that the rivalry b/w the two clubs has intensified a lot since the late 80's

  • I am a manchester united fan and i think the bill shankley and matt busby are the greatest managers of all time !!!

but i do think that if the munich air didsaster never happend i think that matt busby would be the greatest manager ever without any doubt.

  • Matt Busby..Liverpool's best captain in 1930's

Bill Shankly was being incredibly modest here..as he tends to be when speaking of other people he respects. Busby took over Man U who were in the top flight and had a great youth academy...Shankly took over "the biggest toilet in Liverpool" who were in the 2nd division with journeyman players..and laid all the foundations that made them the best team in Europe...Busby left United in a shambles.

  • Munich air crash?

To lose what many consider to have been the most talented young side in Europe and then to go on and win the european cup a few years later - developing the holy trinity of Best, Law and Charlton.

Thats why Busby is a genius, and thats why i cannot stand people who say he took over a top flight side when he had to deal with far more than many other managers.

But, i have to respect Shankly also because he is certainly one of the two greats of all time - the other being Busby.

  • Harsh....Anfield may have been the biggest toilet in liverpool but United had a huge overdraft at the bank and didnt even have a ground when Busby took over! And he may have inherited a good team in the 40s but he still had to rebuild it twice, in the 50s and again in the 60s with fantastic success both times.

They were both great managers and great men, the like of which will never be seen again.

  • I'm no fan of Utd but you don't get greater than these two.

  • 2 great managers of the game it also sad to think how many european cups man utd could of won if had not been for munich!

thses 2 managers lead the way for success for both clubs and legends they will always be

  • Although I don't particularly like Liverpool Football Club, If Matt Busby and Bill Shankly can respect each other, then we as fans should be able to drop the Munich and Hillsborough stuff. Women and children died at Hillsborough and it's not funny, families suffered after Munich and that isn't funny either.

R.I.P. To all 96 Hillsborough victims

R.I.P. To the Busby Babes and everyone who died in the Munich Air Disaster.

    Mocking the dead is wank.

    From a United fan.

  • You know pal, I am a die hard liverpool fan and i don't like Utd in the way you don't like your rivals but what you said is spot on. We as clubs are great clubs with great history maybe why we are such rivals but to mock the dead in any way is wrong. Life is far to important for fans to shout and abuse as people are still suffering with what has happened.

Respect to you for this post. P.S i still want to beat you to the title though. haha

  • Comment removed

  • Bit of the opposite wasnt it mate haha?

not came on here for all the banter though. Liverpool and United are two of the worlds most succesful teams both having there share of incredible players and managers. Shankly, Paisley then there is Busby and Ferguson. Dalglish to Gerrard, Best to Ronaldo. Im a die hard Liverpool fan, but there is no way of dividing both teams' success.

  • i admire your courage for speaking out like this but as long as there are idiots going to both anfield and old trafford it will never happen from a liverpool fan

  • well said mate. wish there were more fans with our attitude to football. from a kopite.

  • I dont like United...but in my mind Sir Matt Busby was a great man, as well as being a great manager.

Like I said..I have no liking for United but I have respect. Mocking Munich and Hillsborough is just plain wrong.

RIP to the 96 and the Busby Babes

    From a Liverpool fan

  • Shankly was the greatest.

  • SHANKLY KNEW!

  • MUFC fan here. This should be SIR Bill Shankly talking about SIR Matt Busby.

And super Bob Paisley should have been made a Knight too.

  • Shankly was legendary without him paisley wouldn't have won the league as much times.

  • Sir Matt Busby possibly was the greatest manager of all time. Coming in after the war to build a great side only for it to perish in Munich. 10 years later he built another great side and the rest is history. He won 5 League titles, 2 FA Cup's and of course our first European Cup back in 68.

Shankly was also a great manager taking Liverpool from the second division right to the top. He left Bob Paisley a great team.

    MUFC THE RELIGION

  • A great man talking about a great man. Two of Scotland and Britain's finest managers, there can be no doubts.

Certain "so called" fans of both clubs could learn a thing or two from these men. Respect and decency.

  • Fair play to you and I never thought I'd say that to a Man U Fan :)

    I agree with you 100%.

  • Sometimes Shanks was wrong though. ;)

Shanks was the best for me though.

  • only a legend of the stature of Shanks could possibly say something like that and actually have it mean something. Others can only pay lip service...

  • Dont forget that Matt Busby was a great Liverpool player.

  • not only was he a liverpool player but we was once a captian for lfc

  • i have never really thought of any manchester united manager being great. i hate manchester united but if shanks says it, it must be true, but i think he is being modest because he is the best manager then matt busby. one question and one only why was busby and fergerson knighted and shankley and paisley werent? confusing question of life.

  • ferguson is great and busby was.what a daft thing to say you never thought any man u manager was great.look what they both did.
