Ah man, I remember Prestel! I had an account with a division of it called "Micronet" IIRC. . There were even private viewdata bulletin boards such as the Gnome at Home.
@darrenpollard1st CEEFAX had already launched in 1974, along with ORACLE. It wasn't until 17th March 1980 we were finally able to see the pages transmitted in-vision on BBC1 and then latterly on BBC2 permanently from 2nd June 1980.
My dad worked on this for BT in the 80s

Bloody hell, I remember Prestel, before teletext. It used to cost a penny per page to view!
