is "Sourp" pronounced in a way that an english speaking person would find obvious, or would I well off the mark?

The word "surb" (սուրբ) is pronounced quite differently from what would English-speaking person find obvious. English "r" and Armenian "ր"(soft "r") are different, one pronounce English "r" deep in throat with tongue back in mouth, while Armenian one is pronounced the tongue closer to teeth (but not touching them). "բ" in the end is pronounced as English "p" in "pine" (բ is always pronounced that way when preceded by ր and not followed by a vowel in the word)

One more comment. The form "Sourp" is used usually to avoid pronouncing "b" as "b" in the end of the form "surb". I would prefer the "surb", as it reflects more precisely the native սուրբ (ս - s, ու - u (sound "u" in "bush"), ր - r, բ - b )
