  • Peace...

  • This is gorgeous!

  • tranquility; at last I have found you!

  • Ahhh

  • Just close your eyes -.- Peace, it's here. Something to free yourself from the world -.-

  • C'est superbe!

  • Can't describe...

  • Very lovely work tiad~worthy of the great man himself.

  • @MrCrazyAlligator

You are correct, sir,in that the piece is only two pages. The rhythms, however, are open for interpretation by the performer.Though it seems simple to play,it is very difficult to perform and portray the emotions that Pärt wanted conveyed.Anyone can plunk out notes and simple intervals on the piano, but it takes a true artist to take the notes that Pärt has provided and make the listener feel struggle, pain, peace, love, something so deep in the soul..I feel this has been accomplished.

  • it takes a while before you realise it's finished, and then you realise it's not

  • This music gets me silent, unwilling to do anything else but listen. But it makes me sad to, not necessary in a good way. Bittersweet I think.

  • How could I ever have forgotten how powerful this piece of music is

  • My name is Alina. I am from Romania. I belived that this represent me so much It is really unbelievable how much. I feal like this man entered into my soul and made such a music. I almost stop breathing everytime i lisened. Thank you

  • Anyone else stop breathing for about 11 minutes?

  • I've learned to click on every single video Eric Whitacre posts on his facebook page.

Most move me to tears, but they all inspire me.

  • A dead leaf falls on your shoe as you walk through the empty streets on a windy autumn day.

  • I feel as though gazing upon an infinite universality; a solemn neutrality. A balance between the despair of a child born into disease and the tulip growing next to her, itself surrounded by mud's attack closing in. A beckoning of an erasing judgement, a calling to stand in awe of the glory of that which loves men and women and yet hastens to forget them, just as one's flaking skin cells are lost to the genocide of the hand of time and not missed for a fleeting moment... Or maybe it's insomnia.

  • Thumbs up if Tricky sent you here.

  • La imágenes son exultantes !

  • stilness speaks

  • clear as a crystal

    like an innocent child

    the beginning

    birth

  • Probably his best work, still.

  • Can anyone tell me if this was improvised while recording, or actually was scripted?

  • @railpressureflip the sheet music was present before the recording. Arvo Pärt is not the one performing. This CD has 6 recordings, three of Für Alina, and three of Spiegel im Spiegel. He did not perform any of them, but chose his favorites to be a part of the recording.

  • @railpressureflip It's written down not improvised. Arvo Pärt once said that he wanted to make a song which will 'draw' out every single note. He said that this song is like every single straw on field, which are seperated from each other yet they're complete. It's like love. When there's too much of it, it's too sweet, lack of it is cold... People need to give each other some space to grow bigger but stay close to get warm.

At least that what he wanted to show by this song :)

  • @railpressureflip The sheetmusic for this work is just 2 pages long. It's also extremely simple; literally anyone who can read sheetmusic can play this. So no, it's not improvised. The same two pages are being played over and over again by the way. The entire work is barely over a minute long. In this recording, it's repeated about eight times, each time a little different.

Of course I am not belittling this work. Anyone can play it, but that's not the point.

  • @MrCrazyAlligator Even after being repeated the song is such a masterpiece, the listener doesn't even notice it is being repeated. He / she's pretty much lost in the silence. Thanks for replying :)

  • just listen to the song...i'm not here to listen to testimonies ,i'm here for real music

  • I thought the note was sustaining for a long time... but then I realized the video had stopped seconds ago. It was my furnace humming the last note. Kind of creepy... but cool.

  • My name :D

  • All right people, quit trying to sound all deep. You're makin' yourselves look silly out there.

  • I've found multiple universes in this song, there's not a perfect song, but this surely is the most close thing to it, it brings peace to mind, its the calm after the storm...all the loudness in now-a-days music doesn't led you appreciate things like this, This is just beautiful, this makes you realize that the universe combines with especific sounds that together form things that fill your soul with greatness...sorry for my bad english D:

  • Th e touch is ever so light, the sound mussing and beautiful yet full of contradictions happiness and sadness side by side...ah yes that's right music of this order always results in the experiencing of premature enlightenment; if only for a second ad infinitum.

  • i had a bad day at school and was upset but when i heard this today in the library it calmed me down<3

  • @B1tchyAngel school library or public

  • 10 Peoples Have No Soul

  • mam dzis ochote umrzec i nie obudzic sie rano

  • where is the drop, lol jk

  • i like it great music !!!!!!!!!!

  • I feel so pure at the moment that I don't want to do any justin bieber jokes about 9 people...

  • Who would dislike this song??

  • I want to die with this music! I want this music to be the last thing I ever hear in this world! I love it!

  • so so beautiful, thank you for sharing this music and these images :)

  • maybe the most beautiful composition ever written. the silence, is the parts that make it so emotional. a good composer can play a small repetition of notes and make a strong point. a bad one can play many and not do shit. it is pure genius and beauty all in one.

  • I have just come across Avro Part. This is classical muzak. Time is the only test of music. This is music that wil be forgotten.

  • @kabewest

It's sad that you don't realize the impact all music has in the world. Even if this piece is forgotten, it will have impacted everyone who has experienced it. yesterday, today and tomorrow.

  • beautiful song for beautiful person <3

  • I thought it was still playing when it ended... It has an endless feel to it.

  • MAESTRO!!!

  • It's late evening, it's smoothly rain outside and I listen to this music one time after another... time is no more!

  • (enter your silence here)

  • Simple awe inspiring. It evokes a bittersweet picture of nothingness 'and' everything in the most beautiful manner.

  • Insight into the soul. Tranquility . Peace.

Wonderful to lean back and enjoy whatever it means to you.

  • no need for words ......

  • Who is Alina?

  • I love this song so much. In art, the saddest works are the best.

  • Its not about playing the correct notes, its about playing the notes correctly. That is what makes this piece so difficult to learn.

  • @gabrielrockman amen

  • My names Alina ♥

  • yes, there is poise here, and grace. silence is not a property of the tundra though. nor of those very christian images. come to the tropics and discover it in within the human din. or listen to sun ra.

  • Äitäh, Arvo!

Your music mirrors back the very essence of life itself, I´m so lucky to have the privilege to hear it.

  • Anyone who would choose Lady Gaga over this truly does not possess either a soul, heart or mind.

  • @JulianBaynes1: Don't judge and "compare apples and oranges". It doesn't matter how kind of music appeals to someones heart or soul. But let me say that I PREFER Arvo, too. ;-) - ** TIAD **

  • @tiad Lady Gaga is not an apple OR an orange, but a walking cancer which has an extremely negative influence on the minds of young people. And I'll judge as much as I want, regardless of how you or anybody else feels about it. I'm allowed to have my say. Why get into purposeless arguments on YouTube by replying to people's comments simply because you happen to disagree with their content? Have you nothing better to do? It's pointless even disputing this with me when I am so obviously correct.

  • @JulianBaynes1: No hard feelings. I meant "don't judge ..." OTHER PEOPLE by saying "...does not posses either a soul, heart or mind." Sure, one can critize Lady Gaga ...And what does Lady Gaga have todo with Arvo Pärt? Your post would be more suitable on Gaga clip! - Regards. - ** TIAD **

  • @tiad That's fair enough, I just can't stand the garbage that so many people enjoy. It doesn't make any sense to me. I know what you meant, but that's just the way in which I choose to express my distaste for the untalented trash that is so often played on the popular radio stations and television channels.

  • @JulianBaynes1: Thank you for your comment. What do you think why I created my channel? ;-)

I am absolutely d'accor with you that there are thousands of other artist much more talented out there who deserve more attraction but only few people knowing them. On YT there is at least a little chance to find those extraordinary artists like Arvo Pärt. I wrote: "Maybe you stumbled upon my channel or discovered it by accident. It doesn't matter. I am happy to reach you." - ** TIAD **

  • @tiad Haha, you are right in saying that. :)

  • @tiad .... what do you mean by judgement really? Its ironic how people are fed in with bogus ideology. I know what you mean. We want a society where everyone is free to do whatever they want to do . Absolute freedom. In word of Leo Strauss, the man behind the modern neo-conservative ideology of western politicians. He says this society grows with seeds of its own destruction, it grows to a point where it is unable to defend or explain its existence.

  • @tiad No, I am not the one looking for trouble, but I must admit that when I saw what you had written it offended me in a sense. I very well am capable of continuing this heated discussion for a while, considering that you are holding tight to the idea that the audience preferring modern music is somehow "wrong". If you even want people to understand your point of view, you have to come across as neutral. I don't have anymore time to waste on this subject, however. Happy trolling,

  • @JulianBaynes1 I don't care for lady gaga either, but we came to this page in order to listen to some appealing music, not you, who apparently wishes to spark a flame war over a modern artist. Us teens especially do not appreciate instigators such as yourself who attempt to judge us based on our taste in music, and you are in no place to discuss negative influences.

  • @Chrisuperhero I'm not the one who wishes to spark a flame war, that's you. All I did was speak out against this garbage. And yes, watered-down crap such as Lady Gaga does have a negative influence on teenagers, that much is irrefutable unless you live within a false reality. Culture is created, it does not come about by itself. You might want to look further into this subject before replying again.

  • @JulianBaynes1 ... but people do thats why we have paris hilton, lady gaga, blondes , snoop dog and niggers :D

  • @MrSoadphoenix People do what, like these pop stars? Yes, I know, that's why I'm so upset, but it's all part of the deliberate dumbing down of the population by the elite. Many of us are aware of what is happening in our world, but the majority are still not listening. Mainstream music and blockbuster films have never been so banal and tasteless, and it makes me want to cry when I listen to such beautiful sounds as the ones Arvo Pärt gives to us.

  • Just perfect...

  • @tiad

Have just discovered this composer. Love this particular piece - mesmerizing - almost like a meditaion. Thanks so much for downloading this track from Part's album. Plan to get sheet music for my dtr. who plays piano so she can personally play for me.

  • Αfter this work, the Music stops.

  • <3 è la cosa più bella che abbia mai ascoltato. Una meraviglia.

  • Am I the only one who doesn't like to describe music in words?

  • I feel as though gazing upon an infinite universality; a solemn neutrality. A balance between the despair of a child born into disease, and the tulip growing next to her, itself surrounded by mud's attack closing in. A beckoning of erasing judgement. A reminder to stand in awe of the glory of that which loves men and women and yet will hasten to forget them...just as one's flaking skin cells are lost to the genocide of the hand of time and not missed for a fleeing moment. Or maybe it's insomnia

  • @AgentLogik Deep bro *long drag off of a spliff* Deep. In all seriousness, though, that is a really beautiful visualization/fantasized experience of this piece. Keep up the imagination!

  • Comment removed

  • @AgentLogik Why complicate it so much? It's obviously simple.

  • @AgentLogik

I think it's probably the insomnium.

  • @AgentLogik

Insomnia*, rather! Sorry, been listening to a lot of death metal.

  • @Jmonstra Shut up, Jordan, you don't know anything other than French anyways!

  • @Jmonstra No surprise, a fellow metalhead listening to Arvo Part. It's just so impossible to resist, as is a lot of other classical and ambient music, but especially Arvo Part.

  • It's like a sorrow in the silence, something that you can't totally realise. Something that you fear, but in the same time it's something absolutely wonderful. It's sadness inside emptiness. It's an emptiness full of everything. But you can't reach. You will never be able to.

    It's amazing.

  • This music is actually kind of frustrating to me. I see fingers pausing, and hesitating over a piano, uncertain of a melody, or drained of it. I have always been a music lover, prefering acoustic over any other form. I have an affinity for symphonies, particularly loving the way the instruments fall together and communicate--as is the case with Rachmoninov's work. But this to me is almost a blank canvas for music, on which our thoughts race to dive into a melody, and instead plunge into silence.

  • @Joyness333 I think that may have been the point. But keep in mind that Arvo Part's music is more about texture and the control thereof.

  • @Joyness333

Well said. I think this is exactly the forte of this piece, this is why it is exceptional.

  • Gerry.......

  • 3 people have no soul

  • A composição é perfeita! O video é excelente ! o compositor da música ;e maguínifico! (Arvo Part) ...

  • It is the sadness and the emptiness - that is inevitable in life – which causes us to seek the light, the sunshine and the joy of companionship. The artist that can bring this yearning at will is the bringer of joy. That is why I love this music

  • This is my favorite A.P. composition. The video is excellent too. thanks for this posting.

  • "I could compare my music to white light which contains all colours. Only a prism can divide the colours and make them appear; this prism could be the spirit of the listener." -

    -- Arvo Part

    So beautiful...

  • Where are some of the photos taken from? Namely the water photos around 3:50.

  • This is achingly beautiful.

  • What we hear is what we are; all our reactions come from our physical and psychological makeup, our history etc. - what we conveniently term as "I".

I think listening to Arvo Part's music is a great way to realize this.

  • Total fredom of the soul

  • Hi there this is lovely, only thing I'm wondering is who the photography is by? Being a photographer myself and a visual artist I kinda feel strongly about recognition for people who create beauty - here we have several masters at work. Please let us know who took the images?

  • Love this music.

  • Music naked.

  • Просто великолепно!

  • this music is like God's presence

  • (' With loving attention' , a bit like the rule of St. Benedict, interpreted in its most Zen-like way - the way I love it)

  • Do not forget the pictures. They are chosen very well for this song: tranquil, pure, but not ehm, in a cheap way. Thanks a lot for posting.

  • Every time I listen to this track I'm moved to the point of tears. The sad irony that all humans are equal in the face of our iniquities becomes immediately obvious to me when I hear this track. So hauntingly complete in its fragile, minimalistic brilliance. Arvo Part has transcended the mere term 'genius,' in this he has created some of the most soulful, profound music ever imparted upon humanity. A true musician if ever there was one...

  • This music is incredible... it centres me.. Listen to this from multiple source at the same time, just press play at random.. it will sound totally in sync and calm and melodic and every time a unique experience.. PLay this outside accompanied by wind chimes, or traffic, or whatever is in your universe, or nothing but the view.. Amazing....

  • This is beauty.

  • Im alive. Not piece of rock or dirt. Im alive. This is what we can(and could) return to nature...now im not a shamed to be a human, even if i look out of the window, where i can see trafficjams....turn out the TV for....ever.

  • Arvo Pärt has become my favorite composer, even though I knew about him since a long time ago. His music helps me through life's ups and downs

  • It's amazing how you can just come across these composers. 45 mins ago, I heard his Tabula Rasa on the radio, and now he's one of my favorite composers :P

  • Rarely has the world heard such beauty.

  • Seems like 2 deaf persons tried to listen to the song but failed

  • Thank you! I could live my whole life without knowing who Arvo Pärt is. Now I know what I could've lost.

  • Just simplicity and already sounds taken by the notes, the tunes the pitches! Solitude of music, solitude facing you watching the universe!

  • Ahh, mr. possibilities. You seem to appreciate that real music happens in the silence between the notes. The notes are, as 't were, incidental.

  • does anyone know where i can find this variation of this song in sheet music format?

  • @jhkang680 I you post your international fax number I'll fax it to you.

  • @jhkang680

You are going to have to buy it, and Pärt is not cheap. The more known the composer is, the more the score costs. If you have a decent library around, they will probably have a score there, but not for loan.

  • It's like rain on glass............viewing on coming headlights

  • Sleep? Eternal sleep, perhaps.

  • Comment removed

  • A most beautiful example of how silence is a note as well.

  • @Menegoth Yes, but better than 4'33" !!

  • For some reason, when I listen to this piece I always think of sleep. l hear the wisps of thought that linger on the edge of your mind as you succumb to the darkness. Those sparse, but beautiful thoughts. There's been a lot of discussion of God in this music and I do hear him. But I hear the faintness of his voice saying: "Here I am. In the stillness can you find me."

  • Beautiful piece of music. Thank you so much for sharing this. A friend had just introduced me to this gentleman's name and that this is the 1st piece of Avro's music that I have listened to. Best wishes!

  • @arexene: Absolutely: ""I could compare my music to white light which contains all colours. Only a prism can divide the colours and make them apperr; this prism could be the spirit of the listener." (Arvo Pärt) - ** Tiad

  • In this music I can find loneliness, sorrow but some kind of peace too. It's magical...

  • Such beautiful fragility, yet even at the end of an apocalypse this would be all that remains

  • It is so imperativeness that you listen to this piece in complete silence. I was performing this in a Cathedral a year or so ago, and an audience member coughed rather loudly... Ruined the whole thing for me =[

  • Jusy i can say cool,so beautiful

  • 酷い曲だな

  • i was just online goofing off, looking for something with my name in it. I am a musician, and aside from the name factor, i just sat and listened. the few notes in each measure were sweet and intoxicating.

  • @amreczkagrl I have the score somewhere around. It actually IS 'just' notes in measures. There is no time indicaton, no dynamics, every note is the same black dot without staff. If you just look at the notes it is an extremely simple piece which anyone can play using two fingers.. To find the music between these notes is extremely hard. Sometimes I try, but I can't play the music the way I feel it. Thankfully there are pianist like this who can translate the notes to music with their heart.

  • at last...I found the componist that makes music I was looking en feeling for.

    Inner peace........beauty and pureness.....just be.

  • How does one hate and feel such wonder and bliss at the same time? Why is my soul full of tears when I know that true heaven as this creation exsists? How my heart bleeds for those that do not yield to its love, to its forgiveness. I am a child when touched by beauty, I am happy when others embrace the spirit of timeless muse. What is a mere angel to this? seraphim with faded pale wings that does not fly. Oh! but now I have heard the very voice of God himself, if we listen to it we will love.

  • So cool, you literaly have to hold your breath to hear the music :D

  • beauty in simplicity revealing simplicity in beauty

  • this music helps me to get an insight into my heart. i see all the scars it has. everything is so clear..

  • gracias

  • where can i find the picture between 2:59 and 3:23?

  • Emptiness, loneliness, fragility, pure human counsciousness, absence of gods, empty dark indiferent universe, but still soothing, deep experinece of beauty nad self..... You people understand :-)

  • It makes me think of taking a long drive with no destination.

  • there they go, dragging out kisses through the empty street by its hand tailored suit, there they are again, illuminating us through a net of fish that complete the sky

  • When I listen to this song, I feel that something or someone understands me and I dont feel alone anymore

  • I just typed my name into the search field and found this. Such a wonderful feeling, knowing that your name has been attached to something this beautiful.

  • väga liigutav

  • Quel beau voyage je viens de faire !....

Merci pour ces photos et évidemment à l'interprète !....

  • We listened to this in class today, I fell in love.

  • "To see the world in a grain of sand
