  • There are supposedly several inaccuracies in this film; the production plagued with constant changes and deletions. Apparently, Richard Carpenter could not bring himself to have is mother portrayed in too severe a light.

  • that awful mother fucked up both her kids... I hope she found out exactly how much she ruined them and is constantly wracked with guilt... I really hope she did

  • @becsim08 I have a father similar to Karen's mom. Near the end of our time together as a four piece family he spent more time figuring out nuturing other people's kids he decided his second child(me) had some talents too. Eventually his constant disapproval cost him his daughter(me) luckily I didn't succumb to something like this. I feel for Karen.

  • @princesswendyokoopa your a gamer girl arent you, im thinking your a little over wieght thats why you got offended.

  • @MrDeathraze yes I am a bit chunky but I suffer from low self esteem, and self worth brought on by years of abuse and I didn't mean to get offended.

  • @MrDeathraze I'm also thinking mr ignorant forigner that you are self centered egotistical, smamy etc you're a rude ignorant piece of crap that wouldn't understand beauty if it hit you.

  • @MrDeathraze fURTHER more you are nothing more then garbage. Women are beautiful no matter what. You are not even human. I'd rather be fat and overweight then skinny and stupid like you.

  • @MrDeathraze I think you might want to look up Frag Dolls. Those chicks are gamers they're fierce and they're not fat, or chunky. They're healthy, and smart. Unlike you who seems to be stupid, small minded and have an even smaller dick. What is it? 3 inches with no circumfrence? must suck having items no one would want to be near. I Wasn't offended all I said was I knew how karen felt. or must have felt. Learn to read.

  • @MrDeathraze So basically you misread my comments and got zinged. No Not about my weight. ABout the fact that my father only started to "care" when he thought his ex my mother was abusing me.

  • @princesswendyokoopa calm down "big" girl, lay off the cookies now :)

  • @MrDeathraze youre lucky I;m not where you are asshole you would be drinking your penis through a straw after i cut it off grow up

  • @MrDeathraze you're lucky my fiancee ISN'T Here. So what I'm big and enjoy food. At least I have a big brain and am very intelligent loved unlike you. further more I am blocking you and reporting you to youtube.

  • @princesswendyokoopa im wasting my time talking to you fatty.

  • The woman who played Karen in this movie reminds me of Martha Quinn of the old MTV VJ fame in the 80's lol!

  • It sucks when they put people that dont even look nothing like them! The one impersonating Karen looks NOTHING like her!

  • @kimkrisrich I use to think that but now I think I'd rather have the most talented actor's playing them than less talented actors that looked more like them. I mean were are you going to find look a like actors?

  • Now compare this music to Super Bass...

    :|

  • in knoxville tn at the age of ten--me and my cousin who was sixteen heard the carpenters and close to you for the first time--my cuz passed on several years ago--ironically she had some of the same troubles karen did---to this day i claim to be second to none as a carpenters fan --and hope angie walked over to karen up there and said when jay gets up here ya'll will have to go sleigh riding --make angels in the snow---and sing him his favorites--crystal lullaby--and rainy days and mondays - jay

  • who is that actress playing the role of Karen? she sounds exactly like Karen Carpenter! OMG!

  • @daynolism It IS Karen Carpenter's voice she's lip-synching to (except when it's high- then it's Cynthia Gibb's own voice).

  • @daynolism shes not really singing its karen is voice

  • that was the mother's mistake to give sleep aide to her son.

  • Cynthia Gibb wore Karen Carpenter's actual clothes. That makes the movie more authentic.

  • Lol "so they sprinkle moondust in your hair?"

  • the first song i ever memorized when i was young was a Karen Carpenter song, "We Fell In Love". love her songs.

  • nice Belvedere and Barracuda

  • The commercial for Crocker Bank with the jingle by Paul Williams and Roger Nichols (and sung by Paul Williams) is posted -- search for Crocker Bank "Wedding". Richard secured the rights to the song, "We've Only Just Begun," and it was a huge hit for the Carpenters.

  • Mom's a pill pusher!! LOL

  • @judewishedhimselfout Or drug dealer.

  • herb alpert = Hot

  • everytime she sings, i get goosebumps, and not just cos i'm cold! she has a gorgeous voice.

  • THIS IS cOoL my! why can she died she's a legend!!!! i can't get it why! why!

  • 4:34....did someone fart???

  • @pocketrocketocd It's the videotape buzzing.

  • @pocketrocketocd YEAH...KAREN DID FART LIKE ME AND YOU...LMAOOOOOOO

  • The sound quality in this is just incredible. It seems like the sound in the "live" Close to You is much cleaner and has more depth than the original.

  • I love "Close to you"!! I was excited when I heard it. It's such a sweet song.

  • That's an interesting idea that an artist would've stolen a song from a commercial, instead of the usual, lol.

  • Richard wrote that originally he wasn't all the crazy about "Close to You" but it grew on him over the years. He also said he added the "wah"s to the end to try and make it more interesting and believed that helped it become a hit. He said a catchy ending to a song can make a memorable difference, giving "Raindrops Keep Falling on My Head" as an example, another Burt Bacharach hit.

  • At the end of this part I thought Karen looked pretty not chubby at all

  • "I dont know, he might want to come by the studio and check out on his investment.."

    No pressure then.

  • High heels is torture.. *FART!*

  • @BecomingChosenGirl13 hahahahahah!!!

  • @BecomingChosenGirl13 lmao! I noticed it, too. I thought at first that my speakers were messing up!

  • @BecomingChosenGirl13 ha ha ha..... i had to re wind for round 2..... loool thats fucken funny!

  • "Something called Quaaludes to help you sleep..." LMAO!

  • @jupitermoon10011 Agnes giving Richard quaaludes at 7:14

  • Damn ... when they cut to her singing in the booth around 7:20 ... her voice is like glass. I swear she is one of those singers who can almost make you cry.

  • The 1st time I heard Close To you, was Summer of '70, & it was like NOTHING--NOTHING else on the radio. The song grew on me, & that ending--beautiful. Absolutely, Beautiful. Wolfsky9

  • Their hair is killing me!

  • Does she look a bit like lily allen to anyone else?

  • its really nice to watch their humble beginnings but sad how everything fall apart especially for karen..her struggles must've been more painful to her than what the movie showed.

  • actually this this actress really portrayed karen very well, the way she smile and her jaw is the same.

  • wow her brother got hot and i dnt mean to sound like a creep but they seem a bit incestuas (spelling?) but theyr prob just real close

  • A MUST for Carpenter Fans, the music is great, also a good movie. What disappoints me the most is that Karen Carpenter wasnt with us longer. But her music will for all eternity.

  • Just a bit of trivia...while this telemovie was in production, I read that Cynthia Gibb had to lose enough weight to wear Karen's actual clothes, and she was so tiny that it took Cynthia a while to get back to her natural size...that's dedication to authenticity!

  • @bigjen45 I remember that too actually. I remember she said in TV Guide she had to go on a bit of a diet to do that. I watched this with my parents when it aired; I was only 10 and in the fifth grade. It was the first time I had heard of such a disorder.

  • @bigjen45 reminds me of jennifer jason leigh in best little girl in the world. she was dropped down to 88lbs to play the role

  • @bigjen45 i spose its dedication but its also ironic, i dont agree with that

  • @bigjen45 They were trying to kill her, LOL

  • Would anyone else agree, I think this is movie did the sound of the carpenters the best. The sound primarily features Karen's voice. I mean, it is a very simple arrangement, her voice with just one or two instruments behind it. You can hear every single note that she articulates, especially on "Eve." The album version covers up a few of her vocal parts.

  • Obviously the producers didn't pay too much attention on fashion, public look very 80's

  • I wonder if Agnes Carpenter was really like that with her kids....

If she was it's no wonder they both had problems

  • what was so wrong with her, she seemed very concerned and proud of them both! In the 60's/70's it wasn't unheard of to share prescription medicine, though I know it wasn't the right thing to do, I believe the mother thought it would help her son's insomnia.

  • Uh oh. Quaaludes...Bad, Mama Carpenter...

  • "but there prescription medicine!!"

  • I love the Carpenters,..and this movie. I get shivers, and cry through out the whole thing. Karen had a phenomenal voice.

But i also love how close of a bond she had with her Brother,..My Brother Ray and I were always close..I miss him,he's passed away and Its good to see a reflection of our bond in this movie. Tragic losses :(

  • @HeatheraeK as kids my brother and i fought like crazy....but now we are always together i cant imagine my life without him....my heart goes out to you for loosing your brother

  • 04:34 did she let rip?

  • "something called qualudes." lmfao

  • The late night scene where Nurse Ratched offers her son Qualudes to sleep sent chills down my spine. And made me laugh too! (i wonder if producer Richard was aware of the assimilation-repercussions of this casting decision), BTW, she also played the EVIL grandma in Flowers in the Attic!! lol

  • I love this movie! Thank you

  • look into the mirror nothing there to see eve i can't believe you'd really leave him chorus: notice how her image saddens how lonely she's become just once i'd like to see her happy before the winter comes eve i wouldnt lie the open sky is not your home wide as it may be r-e-a-l-i-ty is here among the stones thorns among the roses add to what is real eve you are a rose among the thorns here
  • This song is performed by Carpenters and appears on the album Ticket To Ride (1969).

Written by John Bettis, Richard Carpenter

  • What is the first song in part 3? So Beautiful!!!

  • Eve - from the first album Offering in 1969

  • yea her hair was hot at 0:38

  • what's the name of the song before "close to you?"

  • It's called ''Eve'' :) x

  • Karen Carpenter had the voice of an angel. They had to lip sync because no-one could ever come even close to her.

  • Of course she fucking lip synched! She is an ACTRESS - she was cast tp play the part of Karen Carpenter - not to actually sing like her - that's the wonderful world of film - it's make-believe - based on a true story - but you seriously do not expect her to actually sing like Karen do you?

  • So what if she lip-synched, its a good movie and she is a good actress!

  • I really like Karen's hair at 0:38

  • yes, it is karen's angelic crystal clear voice that made the carpenters famous,it's just that, it's their teamwork as family, musicians, that made them successful, and the credits should not go to karen alone, in all fairness, richard is the "brain" of the group, he writes, composes, arranges. and karen is the instrument to make the songs work and i hope all of us, karen's fans understands that. love you karen

  • Why if anyone ever says anything good in this video does somebody have to "reiterate" how good Richard was..... can no one say the truth..... the Carpenters were only the Carpenters with Karen's voice - it's her voice that people wanted - why does it always have to be if anything said anything good about Karen that "Richard" had to be made to be brilliant. Did even after all she did and achieved - have to be put down to "Richard"... guess he needed to let her believe that - even now in death.

  • so true

  • Richard was responsible for the accompanying music and backing vocals but quite rightly as you say it is the voice that is the main part and that was Karen.I only knew since a few weeks ago exactly what Richard did as part of the Carpenters.

  • When Richard discovered the song We've Only Just Begun on that commercial, it was an epiphany. It was fate. It was destiny.

  • 44636624...hi there:) The song she is singing with the words " Before the winter comes ", it is a song called " Eve ". Oh, just noticed you already got an answer for your question from BeatleboyOZ. Anyway, wanted to help you:) Love, Annie from Finland

  • So was it Herb Alpert that discovered them?

  • Thank You A&M Records.

  • thaks you are very kind ! but i was asking about the song that she is singing at the studio, one guy says ...she is perfect ! and karen is singing...before the winter comes...

i want to know the name of that song.

  • we've only just begun

  • THANK YOU I LOVE KAREN!!!!!!!!

  • can anybody tell me the name of the song at the begining of this video ? or where can i find the lyrics ? thanks from argentina. edward

  • Hello there. If you are speaking of the song that is playing as the movie starts, it is called, "Rainy Days and Mondays". I hope that is helpful to you.

  • Its called Eve and its from there debut album ticket to ride. which you might be able to get on CD

  • thanks for your help ! you are very kind !

  • i love this movie And their music thanks so much for posting..:)

  • Cynthia Gibb must have tried to sound like Karen; at :25 with "liked it" she really did it.

  • Hate to burst your bubble but Cynthia Gibb lip-synched to Karen's voice for the majority of this video...

  • If you'll notice, at :25, "liked it" is part of the scripted screenplay: It's words which were spoken. I know the SONGS were lip-synched.

  • Yeah, so. So, did George Hamilton in the movie he did about Hank Williams ("Your Cheating Heart").

  • I am still a big fan today and I was born in the 70s grew up listening to them. my mom used to play their records all the time. I never get enough of them! Thanks for sharing this movie!

  • i think her voice is absolutley one of a kind. WOW!!

  • eve was on the album ticket to ride so was dont be afraid and all of my life.

  • whoa the mom was in Flowers in the attic she was the grandmother.. Alot nicer here

  • A friend of a friend of a friend to get them into the music buisness. That's crazy.

  • The is the best sound quality of their music, that one can hear. You can hear everything in her voice, including all of her outstanding vocal attributes. Why? Because it is not covered up with strings, dont get me wrong, Richards arrangements were fantastic, but listen to the way her contralto goes way down on the word "comes, before the winter comes" on the song eve. You can't hear that on the marketed recordings. Anyway, very enigmatic vocals, inspiring and nothing less than wonderful!

  • whats that pill he took?

  • qualauds

  • Richard did have an addiction to quaaludes and such.

  • what were they type of sleeping pills?

  • 1970's music rule! I love the Carpenters!

  • We see her anorexia is beggining... Obsessed by her weight, exercises when composing, secret, but real.

  • This movie's awesome because it gives a more raw taste of The Carpenters music.

  • Sounds like the remix of Eve.

  • ahahaha mom's on 'ludes hahahha!

  • Love this movie and love Karen Carpenter!

  • i just love this movie its alot of love song awsome..

  • Me too. I was obsessed with it when I was young. It's so good.

  • I do as well.

  • i love this movie
