got mine three weeks ago for $95.00 with tax and finally got my ammo this week threw the mail, can't wait till the weekend to try it out at the range. Great looking carbine
I have one of these, I bought it in Provo Ut at gunnies, they had a sweet deal where you buy the gun and you can get a discounted can of 440 rounds (which I'm saving for the zombie apocalypse), all for only 170 or 180 I think it was. It is very fun to shoot, and it is accurate, though it sucked to clean all the cosmoline off when I got it.
these rifle are so fun you can go out and shoot 200 rounds like i have done many a time and when you fire that last round and realize your all out you cant believe how quick they went
Good review, I learned a few things. However, I'd like to add something. You say that it dont recoil much, I have found that recoil varies considerably with the ammo you buy. The first oversized sardine can of surplus ammo I bought was like you said, fairly soft recoiling. The second however is another story, it hits harder than any 30-06 loads I've shot, looking at the spent cases I'd say borderline overpressure loads. Something to watch out for, safety safety.
Damn that's a sexy rifle :D I want one! Good frame, nice accuracy (though like he said needs adjusting), and smooth bolt plus loading and ejecting performance... :)
The kick to this is so small. i bought my 91/30 two years ago. Amazing gun. So which way do you move the sliding sight to compensate for range? Just curious. i have hit a target at 100 yds but i don't know which way you move the sights for range. Colud someone please help me?
@BlueMoonWolf7 would you want it for range or windage, range would be on the rear sights.if you see all the numbers in meters thats were you want to be if you want range and if you want it to fire farther push the front sights foward until you get to the distance you want just remeber the measurement is in meters and for windage you will have to do what he did hit it to the side but not to hard and you only hit the front sight side to side NOT THE BACK.
@BlueMoonWolf7 To change the POINT OF IMPACT [what you want to do] is move the FRONT SIGHT IN THE DIRECTION YOU WANT TO CHANGE. if you are to the LEFT of the place you AIMED at, then move the FRONT SIGHT TO THE LEFT a little bit, fire another round or 3 if needed to average. Make small changes as there are large results. do this a couple of times until consistent on the spot hits are happening. [[ The reverse is true for REAR sight adjustments]].
@conestoga100 lol indeed... probably the only way the soviets could afford to lose 8 to 10 million troops and still win the eastern front hahah. Crazy communists. Fight and die, or don't fight and be executed. It takes a brave man to be a coward on the red army.
Would it be wise to just buy surplus ammunition (granted almost all of it is corrosive) so regular cleaning would keep it stable and reliable? Or could it do major damage with extended use?
@sunnymuffins13208 If you are going to use corrosive ammo just make sure you clean it after shooting if you clean it properly there will be no damage.
@hickok45 the bayonet was actually banned by the geneva convention due to the fact it was so hard to sticth the wound of the soldier on the recieving end
@commander990 The original spike bayonet for the No 4 rifle, the cruciform shape was banned by the Geneva Convention and the Mk2 was introduced in 1940 with a plain round spike.
I still dont get how you can shoot that thing. I picked up 2 at my local big 5 and the stocks are so damn short I cant even get my hand to the trigger
They actually fire more accurately with the bayonet attached. The Russians sighted them in with the bayonet attached, and it does alter the point of aim. If you adjust the sights without the bayonet, that will change the point of aim.

@garnetblackattack419 also note: the garand was originally chambered in .276 penderson, it was later converted to 30-06 (7.62x63). This is the gun that won wwII, which actually has more punch than the mosin nagant. AND the garand still maintains faster follow up shots due the the gas operating system even with the more powerful round :)
@garnetblackattack419 there's no "one gun" that won ww2...jesus christ. lots of people fighting and dying is what won ww2. also pretty much every major country in ww2 except japan fielded a self-loading rifle. fun fact.
@deadpan237 u mad bro? Obviously people fighting and dying for their country wins wars. I appreciate the insight captain obvious. Generally, the garand is accepted as the gun that won the war on the western front by all historians whether you like it or not. My point was simple, if given a choice between the nagant or a garand, I choose garand.
@garnetblackattack419 fucking good for you. if you knew anything about squad tactics you'd know it makes little difference whether two guys are using garands or bolt action rifles to plink away at targets already being suppressed by BAR's and M1919s and flanked by guys with Thompsons. Clearly casualties in a war are directly linked to what kind of gun they use, and not the tactics your commander uses or the supply lines or the country's leadership. Go back to COD, kiddo.
@deadpan237 It's both, stop arguing. even the Finns managed to hold out against Russians for a decent while while ill-equipped in terms of firearms and armour. Of course stopping the red machine completely was impossible and we officially lost the war, but casualties considered Finns had 1:10 against Soviets in terms of casualties.
Finns had excellent strategy and that's what saved them from the original Soviet campaign. They were not as well armed, however and EVENTUALLY lost.
@Ryuurik I'm just saying, in WW2 only about 1% of all the deaths and 4-5% of the wounds sustained on all sides was due directly to small arms fire, which is miniscule and inconsequential.
So his argument of "hurrr dur m1 graand won ww2 cuz of da 8 bullit clip and da blat blat ping" is not only incorrect, but disrespectful to the people that died for their countries. Small arms don't win wars, strategy and human willpower do.
@deadpan237 i doubt it but whatever. even if you have 50 seal snipers fighting 50 farmers with AKs the seals dont really make it out too well if at all. You must be in an Air Force family. In that time America's military was built around the rifleman and thats something that you can deny, and that being the case would mean that the M1 Garand in the hands of well trained American soldiers won the war.
@GraysCreekMilitia I wasn't born here, my great grandfather was a submariner for the USSR. Look at the pacific theater, the US arguably had the small arms advantage, the japanese had garbage guns and even used swords yet we still had to resort to nukes. You always hear about how grandpa gunned down 4 japs with his 1911 and he swears up and down that it won the war, but you never hear from the guy that manned the naval artillery and killed hundreds without even seeing it.
@GraysCreekMilitia well that was my point, look at SEAL Team 6, they received the best training on the planet, the best firearms on the planet only to get massacred by a bunch of sand farmers with khyber-rigged AK's with resin mags and shredded camera film for gunpowder. firefights are not efficient, because even if you kill 2 or 3 guys all it takes is one miscalculation and you're dead. doesn't matter what gun you're carrying, it will give you a small advantage at best.
@deadpan237 I wouldnt say that the Japanese had terrible weapons, after all their Zero was beating our Wildcats all over the sky. The US actually reverse-engineered a captured zero to develop the Hellcat fighter. The Japs were fighting the Marines though, along with the Army but the USMC were the landing force that knocked a hole in those Islands. Im not denying that the Navy didnt kill alot of them with their bombardments, but they didnt kill the ones that were dug in underground.
@deadpan237 What gun your carrying makes all the difference, if i got into a firefight with a cricket .22 bolt action i would be dead. But if i had my SKS or M1a instead the outcome would be completely different.
@GraysCreekMilitia I meant on a large war scale. there's never going to be enough of a disparity in small arms technology between two developed nations for it to be decisive. people argue minutia about how this gun is theoretically more accurate but so many factors come into play like the environment, training, morale, leadership etc that it would be impossible to pinpoint the outcome of an entire war one one weapon design.
@GraysCreekMilitia Oh yeah, obviously 50 farmers with AKs beat out 50 snipers every time. HAHAHAHAHA sorry that was just hilarious. I hope you were being sarcastic. I agree in the sense that the weapon doesn't fire itself. Training is a tremendous variable on the battlefield. My only point is that if there are 2 armies equally trained, equally numbered, but one has iron sighted bolt action rifles and the other has a 8 shot semi auto equally as accurate, the latter of the 2 wins every time.
@garnetblackattack419 which is why you are a child. superior small arms don't win wars, it's one (small) factor among thousands. I've already stated that statistically only 1-2% of all casualties in WW2 were caused by small arms fire. come back and talk to me when you've matured.
@deadpan237 I already told you, you are the almighty on war logic. Weapons don't matter. Give your troops a pellet gun and drop bombs on everyone. Hell, if only 1% of casualties were caused by gunfire in the war then why did anyone even have foot soldiers? lol you are comical.. btw a link to those stats you keep blabbing about would be nice
@GraysCreekMilitia So therefore, suggesting that having a superior weapon in battle is basically non advantageous, is simply moronic for lack of a better term.
@deadpan237 How the fuck is that being disrespectful? Listen here bitch. I am not the person who has coined the m1 garand as the rifle that won ww2. Numerous historians and veterans who fought for this great country had that say so. Just stop being a cry baby. Fucking give me 50 soldiers with an 8 round semi auto garand, you take 50 with nagants and I will prove my point that your fucking weapon matters when fighting in a war. Its common sense.
@garnetblackattack419 It is why we spend countless of taxpayer dollars to ensure our soldiers fighting today have the absolute best weaponry. By your logic, we should just give our troops a bunch of iron sighted shit guns in the middle east and over power the terrorists with "strategy and human willpower" you fucking idiot.
@garnetblackattack419 ignorant child, it costs the government practically nothing to arm soldiers. ever seen the marines take out a sniper? they level the building with an airstrike while the grunts stand around doing nothing. small arms don't mean shit which is why the technology has made zero progress, we're still using 1911's for fuck's sake. do we use submarines from 1911? planes? tanks? artillery? go back to playing COD with COUNTLESS TAXPAYER DOLLARS for an M4 lol.
@deadpan237 why are you so enamored with call of duty? And with me being a child? I have played an xbox about 5 times in my life and I'm definitely not a child. The current pistol of the armed forces is a beretta m9 btw needle dick. However, don't hate on the 1911. the basics of that design hasn't changed since 1911 because it's fucking solid for a sidearm. I'm finished arguing with your close minded ignorant ass.
@garnetblackattack419 You are sooo right. Soldiers now days just blow up in IEDs and never see action, no enemies are killed via bullets, the firearm you carry into battle doesn't matter, and if I had a choice between an iron sighted bolt action rifle or a M4 with optics I would just say, ah just give me whatever, it doesn't matter we just drop bombs on who we want to kill. Besides, I will die in an IED anyways. You fucking retarded motherfucker.
@deadpan237 I do understand battlefield tactics. I just don't understand what the hell this comment has to do with anything that I have said. However, since you brought it up, A LOT of the time those 1919s and browning automatic rifles were being suppressed by mg 42s and being flanked by stg 44s and mp40s... so I'm not sure of what point you are making. Obviously a superior battlefield commander is a massive advantage. Just like having a superior weapon is a distinct advantage.
@garnetblackattack419 The fact is, when you are face to face with another soldier trying to end your life, tactics are simple. Kill or be killed. In this raw scenario, your training and equipment are frankly all that matters.
@garnetblackattack419 What you fail to understand is this whole "life or death, kill or be killed me and the gun rambo bullshit" NEVER HAPPENS outside of COD. A more likely scenario is carry around 80lbs of junk and 20lbs of SUPER HIGH TECH M16A3XM751 + 20x magnification ACOG for a few months, never see combat, then die when your hummer hits an IED.
Small arms advantages are rarely the deciding factor in modern combat, only perhaps in urban situations like cops face.
@garnetblackattack419 Berlin was taken with the 7.62X54R. So technically the Mosin chased away the Nazi invaders off our land and back to the black heart of their city.
@ruski1945 Oh no doubt... I'm not saying the nagant or the cartridge it fires isn't a terrific round or weapon. It is a proven weapon and man stopper throughout history. However, I was simply stating if I was given the option between a m1 garand and the mosin, I would choose the garand. Taking into account ballistics, accuracy, fire rate, and easier recoil.
@garnetblackattack419 also, before you go sucking russia's dick, remember that they had more casualties than the japanese and germans COMBINED. The facts is that if the germans fought solely on the western front, they wouldve won. If they fought only in the east, they would've won. The war was won by the allies because the germans were trying to fight a 2 front war. It was definitely a joint victory.
@crazedbadger100 Im not a hunter but considering they were used to shoot and kill humans in WW2 at long ranges, i would think it would more than suffice for a deer.
@crazedbadger100 sure if your goal is to kill the deer, but if your going for some wounding shots i would go with a ruger 10/22, just kidding. this rifle would be more than sufficient for dropping a deer easily at 75 to 100 yards (with proper practice and ammunition)
i recently learned about this rifle a couple days ago myself and soon as i get the money ive decided to buy one i like the price, the look is very appealing too, plus i also love the history of the rifle itself
im 17 and ive always had a thing for WWII guns of all kinds especially this rifle. i saw one at a shop a few months ago and i just didnt want to put it down, even with my favorite rifle the m14 net to it on the shelf it was just too beautiful to leave
@702kingz1 not an accurate statement theres a big difference between the two, for instance World at War was not all facts just a enjoyable game with a couple side facts...World War 2 was a gory, Scarring event wich , like vietnam, people who went in the war had some experience of these horrors wich the will never forget, World at War was fun. World War 2 was a very horrific part of life.... but you can still like the game. but im just saying theres a big difference between the two :/
I'm about to pick one up, found it dirt cheap and a bunch of them at the local rifle store and I've saved up and legal...so yeah, its gonna be great :D
@zikazivac994 Was watching a TV show called Top Guns on H2 the other night and one f the guns featured was the Mosin Nagant and they did a little history on it.
@razer440 Maybe some specific models when russia did not had enough money or something, otherwise it would be very blasphemous to say that russian weapons, especially nuggets were made in america by remington then imported to russia. I don't see any clear reason why would someone do it, with all that shipping cost.
I have two of these Mosin's 1929,and 1943, the 1929 is an Izhevsk Dragoon, has the two pinholes on the receiver. Former sniper rifle is what I have been told. The truth is I have never seen a hexagon head mosin in person. I guess they don't ship many to NM, or AZ. MY advise, if you haven't seen the Movie Enemy at the Gates, boy this movie was almost made for mosin lovers.
These are great videos! I picked up a Nagant years ago that was found in Vietnam- it had an odd bayonet connection sticking out at right angles when in shooting position. Mine was missing the bolt and the barrel was jammed. It came from a collector for $10. Pity it didn't work! To be honest- I thought it looked ugly as sin! Nowhere near as nice as that Lee Enfield No. 4 you have!
I remember when I was about 12, My dad and his friend bought these mosin-nagant rifles at a store called Gaylords back in the mid-sixies for $6.25. tHAT WAS WHEN YOU DID NOT NEED A FEDERAL FIREARMS LICENSE. Would like to see that price now.
@1guyin10-------- i got that bent bolt for it about 18 months ago---had to go to edmonton to get it ---but the info you share i s very apreshiated since i an currently looking for a abs resin body for it---if you which companies that make them--that would be cool :)
One more thing about this gun. Unlike the Mauser, it can be re-cocked by pulling back the safety knob. So if you run across a suspected hard primer you can hit it again without having to cycle the bolt.
Some have been found in taliban hands aswell, russians from the 80's must have been using them as makeshift sniper rifles (as dragunovs were in short supply) so thats over 100 years in service lol always with the bad guys though :D
Все верно: Мосин + Наган. За разработку винтовки царское правительство России отвалило Нагану крупную сумму,а Мосин получил лишь премию и повышение в звании.
Its all your fault Hickok45. I stopped by the ASP and they had gotten some more in so a decent example followed me home. Now to remove half a bucket of cosmoline and find some ammo...

@GraysCreekMilitia if you replaced every garand with a 1903, statistically speaking the outcome would be pretty much identical.
deadpan237 1 week ago
@deadpan237 i doubt it but whatever. even if you have 50 seal snipers fighting 50 farmers with AKs the seals dont really make it out too well if at all. You must be in an Air Force family. In that time America's military was built around the rifleman and thats something that you can deny, and that being the case would mean that the M1 Garand in the hands of well trained American soldiers won the war.
GraysCreekMilitia 1 week ago
@GraysCreekMilitia I wasn't born here, my great grandfather was a submariner for the USSR. Look at the pacific theater, the US arguably had the small arms advantage, the japanese had garbage guns and even used swords yet we still had to resort to nukes. You always hear about how grandpa gunned down 4 japs with his 1911 and he swears up and down that it won the war, but you never hear from the guy that manned the naval artillery and killed hundreds without even seeing it.
deadpan237 1 week ago
@GraysCreekMilitia well that was my point, look at SEAL Team 6, they received the best training on the planet, the best firearms on the planet only to get massacred by a bunch of sand farmers with khyber-rigged AK's with resin mags and shredded camera film for gunpowder. firefights are not efficient, because even if you kill 2 or 3 guys all it takes is one miscalculation and you're dead. doesn't matter what gun you're carrying, it will give you a small advantage at best.
deadpan237 1 week ago
@deadpan237 I wouldnt say that the Japanese had terrible weapons, after all their Zero was beating our Wildcats all over the sky. The US actually reverse-engineered a captured zero to develop the Hellcat fighter. The Japs were fighting the Marines though, along with the Army but the USMC were the landing force that knocked a hole in those Islands. Im not denying that the Navy didnt kill alot of them with their bombardments, but they didnt kill the ones that were dug in underground.
GraysCreekMilitia 1 week ago
@deadpan237 What gun your carrying makes all the difference, if i got into a firefight with a cricket .22 bolt action i would be dead. But if i had my SKS or M1a instead the outcome would be completely different.
GraysCreekMilitia 1 week ago
@GraysCreekMilitia I meant on a large war scale. there's never going to be enough of a disparity in small arms technology between two developed nations for it to be decisive. people argue minutia about how this gun is theoretically more accurate but so many factors come into play like the environment, training, morale, leadership etc that it would be impossible to pinpoint the outcome of an entire war one one weapon design.
deadpan237 1 week ago
@GraysCreekMilitia thank you....
garnetblackattack419 5 days ago
@GraysCreekMilitia Oh yeah, obviously 50 farmers with AKs beat out 50 snipers every time. HAHAHAHAHA sorry that was just hilarious. I hope you were being sarcastic. I agree in the sense that the weapon doesn't fire itself. Training is a tremendous variable on the battlefield. My only point is that if there are 2 armies equally trained, equally numbered, but one has iron sighted bolt action rifles and the other has a 8 shot semi auto equally as accurate, the latter of the 2 wins every time.
garnetblackattack419 5 days ago
@garnetblackattack419 SEAL SNIPERS at that lol. you're a funny guy
garnetblackattack419 5 days ago
@garnetblackattack419 which is why you are a child. superior small arms don't win wars, it's one (small) factor among thousands. I've already stated that statistically only 1-2% of all casualties in WW2 were caused by small arms fire. come back and talk to me when you've matured.
deadpan237 5 days ago
@deadpan237 I'm 25 years old boss, I'm mature. Where exactly are you getting your statistics? Just curious.
garnetblackattack419 5 days ago
@deadpan237 I already told you, you are the almighty on war logic. Weapons don't matter. Give your troops a pellet gun and drop bombs on everyone. Hell, if only 1% of casualties were caused by gunfire in the war then why did anyone even have foot soldiers? lol you are comical.. btw a link to those stats you keep blabbing about would be nice
garnetblackattack419 5 days ago
@GraysCreekMilitia So therefore, suggesting that having a superior weapon in battle is basically non advantageous, is simply moronic for lack of a better term.
garnetblackattack419 5 days ago
@deadpan237 How the fuck is that being disrespectful? Listen here bitch. I am not the person who has coined the m1 garand as the rifle that won ww2. Numerous historians and veterans who fought for this great country had that say so. Just stop being a cry baby. Fucking give me 50 soldiers with an 8 round semi auto garand, you take 50 with nagants and I will prove my point that your fucking weapon matters when fighting in a war. Its common sense.
garnetblackattack419 1 week ago
@garnetblackattack419 It is why we spend countless of taxpayer dollars to ensure our soldiers fighting today have the absolute best weaponry. By your logic, we should just give our troops a bunch of iron sighted shit guns in the middle east and over power the terrorists with "strategy and human willpower" you fucking idiot.
garnetblackattack419 1 week ago
@garnetblackattack419 ignorant child, it costs the government practically nothing to arm soldiers. ever seen the marines take out a sniper? they level the building with an airstrike while the grunts stand around doing nothing. small arms don't mean shit which is why the technology has made zero progress, we're still using 1911's for fuck's sake. do we use submarines from 1911? planes? tanks? artillery? go back to playing COD with COUNTLESS TAXPAYER DOLLARS for an M4 lol.
deadpan237 1 week ago
@deadpan237 why are you so enamored with call of duty? And with me being a child? I have played an xbox about 5 times in my life and I'm definitely not a child. The current pistol of the armed forces is a beretta m9 btw needle dick. However, don't hate on the 1911. the basics of that design hasn't changed since 1911 because it's fucking solid for a sidearm. I'm finished arguing with your close minded ignorant ass.
garnetblackattack419 5 days ago
@garnetblackattack419 You are sooo right. Soldiers now days just blow up in IEDs and never see action, no enemies are killed via bullets, the firearm you carry into battle doesn't matter, and if I had a choice between an iron sighted bolt action rifle or a M4 with optics I would just say, ah just give me whatever, it doesn't matter we just drop bombs on who we want to kill. Besides, I will die in an IED anyways. You fucking retarded motherfucker.
garnetblackattack419 5 days ago
@deadpan237 I do understand battlefield tactics. I just don't understand what the hell this comment has to do with anything that I have said. However, since you brought it up, A LOT of the time those 1919s and browning automatic rifles were being suppressed by mg 42s and being flanked by stg 44s and mp40s... so I'm not sure of what point you are making. Obviously a superior battlefield commander is a massive advantage. Just like having a superior weapon is a distinct advantage.
garnetblackattack419 1 week ago
@garnetblackattack419 The fact is, when you are face to face with another soldier trying to end your life, tactics are simple. Kill or be killed. In this raw scenario, your training and equipment are frankly all that matters.
garnetblackattack419 1 week ago
@garnetblackattack419 What you fail to understand is this whole "life or death, kill or be killed me and the gun rambo bullshit" NEVER HAPPENS outside of COD. A more likely scenario is carry around 80lbs of junk and 20lbs of SUPER HIGH TECH M16A3XM751 + 20x magnification ACOG for a few months, never see combat, then die when your hummer hits an IED.
Small arms advantages are rarely the deciding factor in modern combat, only perhaps in urban situations like cops face.
deadpan237 1 week ago
@garnetblackattack419 Berlin was taken with the 7.62X54R. So technically the Mosin chased away the Nazi invaders off our land and back to the black heart of their city.
ruski1945 1 week ago
@ruski1945 Oh no doubt... I'm not saying the nagant or the cartridge it fires isn't a terrific round or weapon. It is a proven weapon and man stopper throughout history. However, I was simply stating if I was given the option between a m1 garand and the mosin, I would choose the garand. Taking into account ballistics, accuracy, fire rate, and easier recoil.
garnetblackattack419 1 week ago
@garnetblackattack419 also, before you go sucking russia's dick, remember that they had more casualties than the japanese and germans COMBINED. The facts is that if the germans fought solely on the western front, they wouldve won. If they fought only in the east, they would've won. The war was won by the allies because the germans were trying to fight a 2 front war. It was definitely a joint victory.
garnetblackattack419 1 week ago
@garnetblackattack419 On that point then I agree it fires a big round semi auto so over the Mosin it would be my choice too.

crazedbadger100 2 weeks ago
@crazedbadger100 Im not a hunter but considering they were used to shoot and kill humans in WW2 at long ranges, i would think it would more than suffice for a deer.
XxJubjub107xX 2 weeks ago
@crazedbadger100 sure if your goal is to kill the deer, but if your going for some wounding shots i would go with a ruger 10/22, just kidding. this rifle would be more than sufficient for dropping a deer easily at 75 to 100 yards (with proper practice and ammunition)

@TheMetalheadMunky if ur a fan of world war 2 u must be a fan of CoD WaW?
702kingz1 1 week ago
@702kingz1 not an accurate statement theres a big difference between the two, for instance World at War was not all facts just a enjoyable game with a couple side facts...World War 2 was a gory, Scarring event wich , like vietnam, people who went in the war had some experience of these horrors wich the will never forget, World at War was fun. World War 2 was a very horrific part of life.... but you can still like the game. but im just saying theres a big difference between the two :/

razer440 2 weeks ago

4 you have!

One more thing about this gun. Unlike the Mauser, it can be re-cocked by pulling back the safety knob. So if you run across a suspected hard primer you can hit it again without having to cycle the bolt.
