We traded in our 06 focus for the Volvo after we heard Ford no longer owned Volvo. Our crappy Ford caught on fire while driving due to faulty wiring. I wouldn't even drive a Ford skateboard after that.

The Ford wasps who buzz around make me laugh with their "Mmm yeah Fords the best" I nearly fell off the back of my chair laughing when I read that a poverty spec Volvo C30 ES is over a grand cheaper at £14,995 then a poverty spec Ford Focus 1.4 LX at £16,000. Ford never helped develop any engines from Volvo all Ford did was theive the T5 chuckouts from Volvo and rebuild them with their own vile little internals and other bits and bobs of delphi trash found under the bonnet. Unfortunately Ford had an intent habit of doing what British Leyland did in the 1970's which was swallow reputable companies, steal what they had then cheapen them with Delphi parts vendors.

They are making the new Focus and Cmax in Mexico as well as the current Fiesta for the U.S market. Rover/MG built cars in Longbridge, UK until 2005 yet they still managed to be cheap to buy. This engine is regrettably built in Dagenham, Essex which isn't a good thing and then the finished slop is shipped off to Cologne to be shoehorned under the bonnets of 2.5T Fords. Dishing out full-english breakfasts in Ikea is probably more Swedish then this engine is...

Its not just the C30 which starts at being cheaper the BMW 116i [2.0] ES is £15,964 and the Audi A3 non sportback starts from just £16,620. If you read Honestjohn they even tell you the focus is no longer a cheap car and even they tell you the A3 and 1 series beats it for price. Wouldn't you rather buy better for less?

I currently drive a 2008 plate Volvo S40 which the C30 is based on, the front of the C30 is very similar to the front of the S40.
But the rear of the two cars are very different, the S40 is a 4 door saloon whereas the C30 is a 3 door hatchback.
I am due to change my car next June and I will be ordering a C30. The S40 is a good car but it's a saloon and thinking about it, there are not as many C30's as S40's on the road and I like the look of the C30 over the S40.

The reason why he says "you wouldnt expect it to be a volvo" is because in europe, especially in scandinavia volvo's are very popular for elder people or small families, simply because of the great quality and safety. When the c30 was released, it was the first Hatchback from volvo that could match other hatch'es as the A3 and mazda 3.
Its not as furious as the A3 but the looks and feel of quality makes it up,
great car,i test drove this and the alfa romeo mito.chose the alfa because it was more sporty to drive.volvo was more comfortable and civilised though.both great alternatives to the mini cooper.

I don't think it's considered just an exclusive brand in the UK...granted it's above Ford, Vauxhall etc. in image stakes...but I wouldn't say they're as desirable in image as their German counterparts...I reckon they are on par with VW and Saab....but if we're talking about the XC90 or maybe even the S80 v8 or something then they are more desirable. I'd love to see a Volvo luxury car, an S90 or something...!
and the c30, they pulled off the exclusivity with that one...that's my favourite car in the range hands down....if they thought differently with their S80 rather than making the new one look almost identical to the last then they could add some more wow factor

We traded in our 06 focus for the Volvo after we heard Ford no longer owned Volvo. Our crappy Ford caught on fire while driving due to faulty wiring. I wouldn't even drive a Ford skateboard after that.

Ford never helped develop any engines from Volvo all Ford did was theive the T5 chuckouts from Volvo and rebuild them with their own vile little internals and other bits and bobs of delphi trash found under the bonnet. Unfortunately Ford had an intent habit of doing what British Leyland did in the 1970's which was swallow reputable companies, steal what they had then cheapen them with Delphi parts vendors.

What you have to consider is that most Ford drivers are petrified of trying something new and different and it certainly shows. Thats why your favourite truck still sells well. This engine is regrettably built in Dagenham, Essex which isn't a good thing and then the finished slop is shipped off to Cologne to be shoehorned under the bonnets of 2.5T Fords. Dishing out full-english breakfasts in Ikea is probably more Swedish then this engine is...

I think German cars will always remain German and the same goes for the japanese but seriously, if volvo isnt going to produce "volvo" cars again then they have to do something about the price. I mean why would anyone want to buy a volvo c30 when they can get a ford focus with the same spec, the same suspension engine and parts for much much cheaper? Defies logic.

@thescallykiller No no. Tell you what I just found out C30's are actually cheaper then Ford Focuses believe it or not. Bassline C30's in lowest spec which are 2.0L ES models are £14,995 from Snows group whereas Focus LX's in 1.4 or 1.6 TDCi 90 are £16,000 from Hendy.

@thescallykiller You would have to be a real foolish idiot to buy a Ford Focus at this day in age. Most of the premium cars are cheaper then the base models of Fords these days. Its not just the C30 which starts at being cheaper the BMW 116i [2.0] ES is £15,964 and the Audi A3 non sportback starts from just £16,620. If you read Honestjohn they even tell you the focus is no longer a cheap car and even they tell you the A3 and 1 series beats it for price. Wouldn't you rather buy better for less?

@thescallykiller Thats old news. Ford have always been trying to be premium for decades. They tried it with the Scorpio/Granada. Then they tried it with Ghia X Mondeo's. Now they are at it with Titaniums. They try and make a Rolls Royce interior with rattly wheelie bin plastics and carpets made out of dead Jews from the war. Ford think chrome and tinted windows on the outside is how you go premium. They don't get it. Doesn't quite work like that...

He supported anyone bashing Jews and he was given the highest award by the German army when they were under Nazi regime. Hitla even had a picture of Henry Ford in his office. The 5 door 2.0L Dolly Sprint did 0-60 in 8.0's, had a 16V engine and had alloy wheels as STANDARD on all Dolly Sprints. That was British Leyland and they were supppsed to be crap ffs. Ford are such failures. Everything Ford think is new today BL thought of it 30 something years before them. Even BL are more superior and thats saying something! Lol

Just found out that the Volvo C30 in the bassline spec (2.0L ES) is £14,995 from snows group and the Ford Focus 1.4 in poverty LX spec is £16,000 from Hendy. So by buying a Volvo C30 you are actually SAVING money and upgrading at the same time. I currently drive a 2008 plate Volvo S40 which the C30 is based on, the front of the C30 is very similar to the front of the S40.
But the rear of the two cars are very different, the S40 is a 4 door saloon whereas the C30 is a 3 door hatchback.
I am due to change my car next June and I will be ordering a C30. The S40 is a good car but it's a saloon and thinking about it, there are not as many C30's as S40's on the road and I like the look of the C30 over the S40.

That car got Bangled in the worst way, while Europe got something much, much better looking and handling. SYNC alone doesn't make up for it.

I drive a 22 year old Volvo 740 turbo station wagon with over 250,000 on it, and it still is, and always has been a BEAST!
Look up a few drifting or racing videos of the 87 740 turbo. I'd expect nothing LESS of a new volvo. Next car I buy, right here. Except i'll be getting the c30 turbo diesel hatchback.

The reason why he says "you wouldnt expect it to be a volvo" is because in europe, especially in scandinavia volvo's are very popular for elder people or small families, simply because of the great quality and safety. When the c30 was released, it was the first Hatchback from volvo that could match other hatch'es as the A3 and mazda 3.
Its not as furious as the A3 but the looks and feel of quality makes it up,

I don't think it's considered just an exclusive brand in the UK...granted it's above Ford, Vauxhall etc. in image stakes...but I wouldn't say they're as desirable in image as their German counterparts...I reckon they are on par with VW and Saab....but if we're talking about the XC90 or maybe even the S80 v8 or something then they are more desirable. I'd love to see a Volvo luxury car, an S90 or something...!
