  • This guy is better than me ;D

  • The Terminator on oboe.

  • Why do we oboe players move while we play

  • @IMonteCarloSS1987 Sure thing, well, there's a lot of negativity in youtube fo rthe sake of being negative, just how it is.

I think oboe is nicer than clarinet, though I think the bassoon is nicer still. I find the oboe a bit "thin" by comparison to the bassoon's deeper mellow woody tone. SOunds like whichever direction you go you will succeed with the instrument.

    $2800 is up there too!

  • just suck it

  • This guy just playing scales alone...makes me feel like I'm a failure by simply existing...

  • I love the oboe, and bassoon, but wow, they are SO expensive! I had no idea they cost as much as prices I've seen, $24,000 for some of the bassoons I saw.

That's pretty far beyond the reach of the average student or someone who wants to try one out.

  • Wow. And they say I'M the best oboe player they've ever seen. Then again... he's a professional.. and I'm in a middle school band.

  • what a wonderful sound he makes. He ise sexy with smile &when he plays.I must write some music for this instrument.

Bass oboe is a killerweed it came out of the toilet and made a house on stilts & then the wicked fairy grew sunshades on her brow and flew underground with VladimirGroschmann but then he fell up into a cloud!!!

  • there is a bass oboe in the Planets score. Why did TanDun write notes this instr does not have?

  • @deathray393 then why would you look up oboes on youtube just to insult them? get a life

  • This was in the related section to another lso masterclass video, and I just wanted to say that double reeds have a very ugly tone, and have no place in any orchestra.

  • @deathray393 the oboe doesnt have a nasty tone, just listen to it, how can you hate it?i play the oboe so.. how would you just think if someone said your instrument "doesn't belong in any orchesta" or is a horrible instrument with a horrible tone?

  • @dabomb4333 I would feel like they are wrong, because, I play horn and trumpet and both have a good sound, an oboe just sounds kind of like a squeaky toy being ripped apart by a dog.

  • @deathray393 just shut up

  • @deathray393 ignoranceeeeee. oboe has just a rich a sound as either trumpet or french horn.

  • @deathray393 You're either trolling, or retarded. You say that double reed instruments have no place in an orchestra? I should point out that obviously, you don't, either. Somebody so lacking in maturity and musical appreciation obviously possesses no skill, musically. I suppose my speculation is probably correct, judging by your band's pathetic attempt at marching.

It's a good thing you're so into marching band, anyway. Maybe your shako will cover your nasty, unattractive face.

  • @MrPoog I'm trolling. I don't mean it, I'm just being an asshole. However, my marching band is award-winning, and me, along with my section are some of the best at their instrument in the state. I don't actually mind oboe anyway.

  • @deathray393 your ignorance and arrogance made my day :) thank you

  • satisfactory video

  • I was kicking back in my chair and saw the thumbnail on the "might be of interest" section on my homepage. I thought it said "LSD master class Oboe". I thought, hmm this has got to be interesting no matter what it sounds like.

    Then I saw it's LSO.

  • Where can I find more videos of him playing? :D It is an amazing tone.

  • If it's an option, I'm playing oboe for 5th graade band!

  • rpori make the uh sound while playing. it helps

  • i think composers write notes that AREN'T on our instruments as a cold "F*** YOU !!!!!"

  • i play oboe for our school during concert band, and i wish i could play as well as you do! :)

  • What should i do for a better vibrato?

  • @rpori air; soft contractions(wavering)of your diaphragm,

  • @rpori learn to pulse it then sub divide the pulsing with the tempo and then try speeding it up but if you learn to sub divide it then it is slower and that it the rich nice vibrato that most people want but remember that it has to fit the style of the piece.

  • @rpori try it with your voice... is the same for oboe

  • @rpori sing.

  • @ramone37 its considered the hardest instrument to play next to the french horn... people get mad props for playing these instruments.

  • @jakec916 cool cool

  • I just watch this to look at his face. :)

  • Omg! this is so beautiful!!

My Oboe never sounded like that.

But now I play the Flute :)

  • It's so beautiful when he does that high passage! Gorgeous!

  • D: why didn't my oboe ever sound like that?

  • mmmmm :) I love musicians...

  • @Billie1982Jean1 besides, it's fortississimo not fortisitisimo

  • I played the Oboe for 7 yrs. I would love to pick it up again. I remember always having to a buy a reed. lol.

  • u talk too much

  • fortisitisimo not triple forte

  • @Billie1982Jean1 its triple forte as well

  • wow

  • Dude, my jaw dropped!

  • Woah. It almost sounds like a soprano saxophone!

  • wow your sound is beautiful can i attend a masterclass with u/

  • bla,bla,bla... the best of the best is Francois Leleux !!!

  • sheet show :-))))))))))

  • I love that instrument :)

I've been playing for only a few years, but out of all the instruments I play, oboe is my absolute favorite.

  • how is the piccolo a gorgeous? Isnt it more painful!

  • and just sing :)

(oboe player, 3 years, I have a fox 330, and I'm making my own reeds)

  • It's such a beautiful sound. The piccalo is also a gorgeous sound

  • @LuvYaAll100 Piccolo?

  • very good:)

  • Woah this is AWESOME for an Oboe player:)

  • LOL...i know what you mean i used to sound like that i have to say when i am mad i make oboe reeds it is fun do you buy urs or NO

  • woot, i'm a beginner oboe in first chair [: anyways, i noticed you have a lot of reed in your mouth, but my instructor always tells me to not have so much in my mouth. soo, is it like, actually okay to have a lot in your mouth?

  • actually your not suppose it messes with your tuning and is bad technique

  • absolutely beautiful!!!

  • i can't hear this video because Windows 7 loudness equalization has decided to mutiny my volume settings.....

  • is it too late for 18 yrs old guy to begin oboe lessons? :D

  • nope your never too old to learn an instrument :D

  • aw this guy is sounds so nervous and sweet! what a nice sound too! ^_^

  • seems pretty hard to do

  • XDD haha I only saw Kevin Bacon . SWEET!

  • 4:00 :/ Says a lot about Tan Dun's compositional skills

  • good lessons. this helped :)

  • You have something wrong with your head

  • Your irrational rantings make less and less sense with every post. You really think capital letters help your case ?

  • Maybe he doesn't WANT to teach oboe. Did you think of that? If he wanted to teach oboe, he would've been a music education major. Duh. Don't be a bitch.

  • oh my goodness.... YOUR TONE IS BEAUTIFUL!

  • i love my oboe!!!!

  • less talk, more play...

  • lol

  • I can listen to him play scales all day,,,

  • oh my goodness those scales were heavenly!!!! <3

  • @emoClarinetist I was thinking the same

  • sound attractive

  • This'll probably sound pretty stupid but, does an oboe have the same fingerings as clarinets? I've played clarinet for 5 years, but now I want to learn something else for a bit...

  • not at all........the oboe is more complicated

  • Nothing NEAR clarinet fingerings. I have an oboe in my band and he sits RIGHT next to me...i see him all the time. It's VERY complicated. Oboe is one of the only instruments harder than the clarinet.

  • ive never seen pro play o.0

i hope i can play like that one day.

    its the SCALES!!

    lol.

  • he should do a clinic about technique, for sure.

  • Oh boy how I wish I had my oboe back so I can practice more and sound like you a pro . Five Stars for your talent

  • Wow, he his sound is practically perfect in tune!!!!! Mine is always a little bit sharp or flat =( And when you are a beginner, it DOES sound like small animals. And it can also be pretty painful to do certain notes, but your mouth gets used to it. I usually just run out of air =) lol

  • i don't like watching people playing oboe because it looks awfully painful even though the sound is beautiful

  • i wonder if he's mad he died in die hard

  • funny people was a horrible movie.

  • He's trying to disguise himself with that phony accent but everyone can clearly recognize that he's Neil Young.

  • @kennybadm I'm sorry, but I love you! Thanks for saying what I wish I had.

  • awesome first time ive heard pro play!

before i thought all oboe sounded like small animals , im glad they dont =)

  • that is the most beutiful sond i have ever sound

  • i am so excited! i am an oboe player(Danny) and my friend a bassoon player(Maddison) and my other friend a clarinet player(Hannah) are all doing an ensemble!! if u have any tips please reply!

  • I attended a masterclass with Emanuel about 5 years ago, and he slated my playing so badly I gave up the oboe. He's not as kindly as he comes across!

  • What model of oboe do you use. I like the dark tone.

  • i luv the sound of the oboe when a pro is playing.

  • cute accent!

  • ahhahahaha stop it at 10:06 his face is high larious

  • whats with the color changing backround.

  • Yeah i love his sound! I play Oboe and started it september 2 and can play A, B flat, B, high C, low C, high D, low D, E, right F, F and F sharp. So he can play better then me!

  • i play oboe i sound suckish compared to him

  • Maybe that's why you're not the principal oboist in the London Symphony and he is.

    (NO DUH.)

  • I would like to have a oboe

  • I would like to have a 2 oboes

  • i enjoy the oboe, i've been playing for like 4 years

but every year in my band class, i get stuck in the same class as this really annoying and REALLY BAD oboe player

all he fucking does is trill extreamly high notes in my ear

it makes me want to shoot myself

  • i love teh oboe!

  • I love Emanuel's oboe sound =D Is so pure, kind, amazing ^-^

  • This is awesome!! i play the oboe and its very interesting :)) i am now practicing for all district try outs and i really need to work extra hard lol:)))))))))))))

  • i played flute for 7 years and now i play oboe for2 years now...it's quite fun and cool

  • i am thinking of playing the oboe for the 7th grade band, i play the bass clarinet as of right now and only know one other person that did the same thing that i did and i hope that i can play okay and be a profassional oboe player sooner or later or at least an okay player. :)

  • he's awesome! i've been playing 2 years now, its nt tht hard.

  • this guy is great i have been playing oboe for about a year i hate when people think oboes are horrible

  • How could they say that??? -,- Oboe is lovely, beautiful, incredible...is the sweetest and sexiest instrument in the world =))) (I play oboe, too ;-D)

  • No comment.... -.-

  • well, it's true that oboes generally sound great and I play Oboe myself, but there are some people who do sound bad.

  • wow. i just started playing oboe two weeks ago and im already playing in calss at grade ten! i can learn so much from you. you are amazing!!!

  • i wish i was as good as him...

  • I play oboe every now and then in my spare days and I have only been playing less than a year. What u want to do is keep ur embochure firm, and tighten the sides of your mouth. Relax ur lips and drop ur jaw while playing low notes. If u can master technique, the fingering comes naturally.

  • i'm a flute player (for 12 years now) and seriously thinking of being a professional musician (music minor here). I personally think Oboe is a hard instrument. Flute is difficult to play in an orchestra mainly because while other woodwinds get flat, we get sharp, and vice versa. But in my personal experience, double reed instruments are generally hard to play very well.

  • playing the oboe is easy.just getting it in tune and actully getting it to sound good is the hard part.

  • if you play out of tune and you have a bad sound you can't play the oboe...

  • amazing, your my inspiration now!

haha, i want to play just like you now.

that might take a while though D:

Im in begginers...my notes are kind of high.

    trying to lower it...

  • I'm pretty good at playing the oboe but wow. O-O I feel really lame now hearing him.

  • ... w .. t... f. He just played the scale and the sound was awesome lol

  • oh man...i remember i was the only oboe player in the band. that was quite a few years ago though...

  • what oboe brand is that?

  • oh. my. god. i wish i had his sound. i switched from percussion to oboe in the 7th grade, and my instructor was amazed i picked it up as fast as i did.

  • For those of you getting the squeek sound try pulling out some or pulling in some. It really matters where your mouth is on your reed because each position makes a different type of sound. Your mouth needs to be firm around the reed but not pinching the reed or your sound quality will be poor. For lower notes drop your jaw a little bit and for higher notes. I've been playing Oboe for two yrs and im just giving advice that my teacher has given me, i hope that might help you guys out. good luck ;)

  • amazing sound D:

  • he looks like an oboe!

  • haha

  • haha yeah

  • I'm in the oboe section in my school band, and I always have problems relaxing cause I'm scared of my Band Mistress.....
