  • Percy is the hottest one. Two bad I have to imagine him oiled and in a speedo :)

  • Who doesn't love a good cross-dressing chase?

  • How exactly is beauty judged back in 1909 ? Hair? Legs? Figure? None of that seem to be appearent with any of the candidates. Nice crisp footage and must of been quite novel of crossdressing to audiences back then.

  • Merci!

  • Excellent film.

  • Any clues as to where this was filmed? I spotted a single-decker tram, a mention of "St Olave's" and Shepherd's Bush.

A fascinating - and enjoyable - piece of social history in excellent quality and running at the right speed for once.

  • You could imagine present- day comedian David Walliams doing this sort of thing. The quality of the film is astonishing.

Two of the other "ladies" at 05:08 are quite clearly also played by men ( one can be seen to have trousers on under his skirt)

Bicycle at 05:23 has an acetylene lamp.

  • beautiful quality. Hard to believe this film is over 100 years old

  • the chase scene works perfectly with the yakety sax song

  • Even in black and white the English countryside is glorious.

  • Cue the Benny Hill theme.

  • 100 pounds in 1909 had the same buying power as 13818.03 current dollars.

  • That was the height of fashion back then.

  • Are those hats crazy or what! LOL Gotta love these old chase scenes too.

  • They really wore hats like these in those days?!

I am always amazed how much the fashion changed compared to the 1920s.

  • wonderful old bit of film this 5*****

  • hard to imagine that these people are no longer alive. always gets me when i watch this videos. i love the past and can only keep thanking you for uploading content

  • @modelearth I concur.

Actually, it kinda makes me sad to think they're no longer with us. Sometimes I have a hard time watching older movies for this very reason.

  • @jazmella yeah, i also look at london now and think what has it become...a multicultural melting pot with ethnic ghetto's in every borough. but then again i can only imagine those born in the victorian era said the same about the Edwardian era etc.

  • @jazmella i checked out your channel and you have some cool vids btw :)

  • i wonder what 100 pounds is in today money

  • @modelearth £1.20

  • @LokiV ?

  • @modelearth £100 pound in 1909 is worth £1.20 today

  • @LokiV I think you have it backwards. 1909 normal people made maybe 40 pounds a year, so 100 pound was a tremendous amount.

  • Excellent short, thanks for uploading it.
