  • All of you critics, being so brave hiding behind the anonymity of the Internet. I doubt that any one of you would have the courage to take a risk like she did. Putting yourself out there where you could be embarrassed, where you might possibly fail. She had the courage to dare greatly. And you reward her with heartlessness. Guess what, critics, she will go further than any of you, because there is reward for courage like hers. Your reward for heartlessness? You will live the rest of your life k

  • This was on tosh.o

  • he is absolutely my favorite coach now...that was completely badass of him. what game was this? where was this?

  • Completely out of tune!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • cheeks should butt fuck her aftewards

  • "get the feeling of a star promotion"....failure. epic failure.

  • Fail lol i feel bad for her actually

  • the guy helping her out knew the lyrics better, sure. but it would have helped ms. gilbert even more if the guy could actually sing it in tune and in the same key as her.

  • what so badly we FAILED ;D

  • she was on tosh.0

  • Why is it when anyone has a little mess up they boo at that person i would like them to the sing the national anthem by heart

  • @slacer54 I really didn't hear anyone booing. Most of what I heard was people singing along to help her out, which I think really says something about the american people.

  • The poor girl looked terrified before she even started. She did her best, and that's what counts. I'd rather she do the anthem than some stuckup, holier than thou- i messed up but still pay me millions for being here- artist.

  • ok i know this is a screw up, but if you think these are hard lyrics to learn, and then to sing in front of so many (i mean from like 10 to 100,000) it is scary and she probably got nervous

i would know ive sung the national anthem twice (im singing it again) its scary

  • Good save coach, It is never an easy thing to sing in front of thousands of people. I was happy to hear the crowd join with her and help her out, that is the true American way.

  • She really has talent, she was just so nervous that she forgot all the words. It was really nice of the coach to help her.

  • what a classy brotha. when i say brotha i mean man. he helped a sista out, and the crowd joined in to help. awesome

  • Oh, man, instead of laughing and booing, the crowd should have joined in singing.

  • @TVWriterGuy they did!!!!! you just couldn't hear it!

  • What a Gentleman!

  • Mo Cheeks is/was a first class act!!!!!

  • That's a lot of pressure.

  • I would have started to cry and then ran away, I can't believe the crowed cheered her on anyway, America can be a tough crowd

  • man that was hard to watch poor girl

  • aww poor girl

  • it's the nerves of being in front of an audience.

  • Star Lights? I always thought it was star dust.

  • @Solowizard LMAOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!

  • I like how the two Sailors in front of her at the beginning look DUMB - FUCK- FOUNDED!

  • Jeeesus that coach should stick to coaching..

  • Tosh.0

  • Those people taking a snotty, "she sucks" stance need to realize, one, just how hard this song is too sing, and TWO, just how hard it is to sing in a stadium full of thousands of people, with cameras trained on you, and every single person listening to you, WITHOUT any musical backing to hide behind. It's just you and the microphone in a quiet stadium. I get nervous just thinking about it. Every time I watch this video, I smile, and yes, get all warm and fuzzy inside. :)

  • she was on tosh.0

  • And it's Moe to the rescue!! Go Moe!!

  • That is the spirit of America. One helping another in a tough spot. Bravo to her for not quitting and running off and bravo to him for helping her instead of laughing

  • Maurice Cheeks WAS PURE PURE CLASS FOR THIS....GREAT GUY!!!

  • That was a classy move on part of the coach. Good work sir.

  • I wouldn't be to hard on her she is a little girl. Until you have stepped in front of a crowd of people and given a public speech. You can't say you can do better because you never done it. Yes, I already did it.

  • He was totally hitting on her.

  • watched this on tosh.0 hella funny

  • Mo cheeks man of the year!!!

  • Poor girl!

  • i would have ran off stage and cried like a little girl...lol

  • That was very nice for him to stand by her when members of the audience were booing her.

  • This is one of my favorite videos. I think the girl was very brave to overcome her fears and continue singing and the coach was the best. I hope his team won that game! What a great guy.

  • ouch

  • poor girl. its funny cuz i bet if she was older, they would have all booed her.

ive been noticing that in other videos (X

  • u go girl, bless her heart, cuz its hard getting up in front of sooo many people & shes got talent regardless

  • she's good...poor thing!

  • Oh man... I feel so bad for her

  • thumbs up for sixers coach maurice cheeks

  • Its probably a good thing she didn't do that at a Piston's game. I feel for her though, it had to be much more painful for her then anyone listening to it.

  • haha awwwww that was so cuteee!! he sang the whole thing with her:)

  • ouch

  • FAIL

  • People (especially non singers) don't realize how difficult our national anthem is to sing. It has a huge range. On top of that, add the nerves you'd get from a stadium full of people watching you. Half of them waiting for you to fail. Glad coach didn't let her quit! I think the challenge would've beeen singing while hearing his tone defness in my ear;0)

  • Listen the crowd at 0:47 they are like "Come on! You can do it!" not like ...you know... "Booooooooo!"

    That is great!

  • too funny!!!!

    hahaha

  • eWWWWw

  • That's the American way:] ... The helping... I meant.. Not screwing up... Shit..

  • WOW...what a great guy!!!!! Anyone know who that coach was?

  • @bonnieleebee1 The coach is Maurice Cheeks and this happened at a Portland Trailblazers game in the early 2000's.

  • ahahaahahaha

  • she obviously didn't come prepared, whatsoever. If I knew I was going to sing in front of that many people you bet your ass I would practice it until it was second nature; I'm glad she looked like an idiot.

  • @Romad33 I guess you never screw up, and I also guess you are her age,,right? however I DO adree with you she was not well enough prepared..Maybe the grown ups that let her on stage should take the bleme then???

  • that was nice of Mo' Cheeks to step and help her out like that

  • pooor girlll.....HAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH

  • Wow what a class act on the coach's part.

  • wow she has a STRONG voice. i wish i had a singing voice like that. and gee. i feel bad for her.

  • It's sad that she started giggling. Had she not and just took it--it wouldve been fine.

  • well done crowd get behind your fellow human. that's what she is...

  • HOW EMBARRASSING

  • I defy anyone to sing to sing BOTH verses of the British National Anthem!!!

  • Now that's what being a human being is all about!

  • Good for her that she s not black...i dont wanna know what kinda racist stuff some people would write here

  • @franciso7 hahahaha nice observation

  • Someone isn't a twilight fan.

  • @GrahamNificent haha

  • Why the HELL is TOYOTA promoting the signing of the US National Anthem? Just wondering?

  • shes a young girl!!!!!!!!! why cant ppl just give her a break!?

  • Mo Cheeks .....classy dude.

  • I liked what the guy did

  • Maurice Cheeks, back when he was coaching the NBA Portland Trail Blazers. The local news even showed this clip. He was and still is a class act all the way.

  • that was badass the crowd sang with her, plus the coach, what a beast.

  • my new hero is that coach!

  • very cool coach to come and save her from certain failure! that's the American spirit! pick up the pieces and keep moving forward!

  • what made it worst was that she had that scuffing laugh and she did a few times but i feel bad for her

  • that was awesome what Mo did...holy shit remember Nick Van Exel?!?!

  • Maurice Cheeks is an absolutely amazing person. Kudos to him, truly touching moment that makes me believe humanity still has a chance.

  • So cool for the coach to do that Props dude

  • Poor girl.

  • LOL LHMF

  • lol that was funny

  • lmao the guy got the whole crowd into it. he's awesome

  • he was trying to help I guess.

  • ok lemme just say... its hard to do that kinda of stuff... she was not very experienced obviously.

  • Although, I have to say, the poor little girl was just too nervous to remember it...but still. Let this be an example for the kind of Americans that are so full of themselves and who discriminate against blacks and other races...you never know when they will save your ass (weather at a cotton plantation in the South years ago, or while you are too nervous to remember our own national anthem.)

  • cunt

  • @momiatus your an idiot, this has nothing to do with race...

  • @LCampoy8 I agree with you, completely! BUT, when did i say it was because of race that this mess up occurred? My comment is just a comment of irony, not a proclamation of race nor a support for any...simple irony comment, That's all it is. If you want to tackle it as having something to do with race, then suit yourself, but as I said, i never said it had to do with race...it's the irony of history. Oh and I think my professors at MIT don't think I'm an idiot, so I disagree on that one. Cheers.

  • Comment removed

  • @LCampoy8 Also, when you learn how to differentiate between "your" and "you're" then maybe then we can talk about who the idiot is.

  • sweet sweet man!! props!

  • wat a recover

  • what a gentleman! haha lol,

  • Epic Fail

  • FAIL FAIL FAIL did i mention she can't sing =P

  • Aww, I feel sorry for her. She is a great singer, just got nervous.

  • wow, i would be so embarrassed if i messed up like that. i feel bad for her.

  • wow i hate that dress lol. man, sucks to be her. she accidently screws up and now its all over youtube

  • What is sad is the Black guy didn't even know the words...

He should have just sat down and not got up.

  • umm no it was really nice of him to help her like that

  • maurice cheeks is the man!

  • Poor Kid, at least she gave it a go

  • How fucking sweaty is that guy at 1:28? and this is pregame right?

  • ROFL

  • I dont even know the national anthem

  • More embarrassing, is that it's wide spread on YouTube :-P

  • black dudes a hero

  • EPIC FAILURE~

  • That is one of the nicest things that i have ever seen.

  • fuck what a dude coming to her rescue like that i noticed he sang the wrong lyric though lol but what a show of support awesome brother

  • Bet you she wont sing in public again lol

  • lol when he joined in he still sang the wrong lyric..haha fail she doesn't know our fucking anthem

  • TOO FUNNY

  • Thats fucken embarrasing.

  • hahahahajgafkadfhvaahgvbuavio ahav aerhabh ahahahahahaahahahahhahahahahaahahahahaahhvfohavbetiohb

  • Now this is embarrassing

  • aww its a little Jodie Foster.

  • she's a great singer. everyone has mistakes.

her voice is amazing, and a screw-up or two wont change that.

but i LOVE how the crowd and everyone else joined in once she got back on track.

  • Maurice Cheeks to the rescue!!! Good thing they were in Portland that night....Lord knows what would have happened if they where in Philadelphia...LOL!!!!!

  • lol so true

  • oh my god! lol

  • what a sweet girl, and sweet coach to come to her rescue. when all eyes are on you sometimes ANY one is vulnerable to mess up even the most basic sentence or recital. Gotta give our performers a break sometimes - nice of the crowd to support and cheer them on unlike some righteous dipshits criticizing them out here on cyberspace... would like to see you get up and to it.

  • I agree. A bunch of people, hiding behind their screennames, sitting in their chairs, ripping this girl for flubbing a word and then becoming very nervous. I'm older than her, and I'd be very nervous as well if I had to sing the anthem before a huge crowd, where everyone's quiet and focused on me. Even the pros screw up, and I can see why someone would get on their cases, but I'd like to see other high-schoolers take a crack at this. It takes guts just to try to sing the anthem publicly.

  • @larahenry66 UHHHHH TOOL? And she sucks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! A disgrace to america!

  • @larahenry66 Wow perfectly put, your my new hero man, very nicely put

  • ouch..... epic fail

  • Oh say, does that store spangled banner yet weigh?

  • What's equally as funny in this video is the fact that the coach didn't know that part either.....its "twilight's last gleaming" not "starlights" He should've corrected her and then continued. Still it was nice of him to help

  • I think he knows that it's twilight, and maybe he did flub it as well, but putting in twilight might throw her off even more, so he helped her pick up right where she stopped.

  • she's just nervous and probably forgot

  • that would have been so embarrasing, but it was really nice how everyone cheered her on and tht guy helped her, i feel sorry for her ):

  • The should have just let Mo Sing it form the beginning!

  • Well yes she screwed up. But I love how everyone is really helping her and finished the song together, only true Americans do that.

  • This is a wonderful example of leadership from the head coach, Mo Cheeks who came to her rescue. She was 13 years old, give her a break. They let her come back later and do it again. It went fine the second time.

  • wow.....you dumb white trash bastards can even get your own anthem right! lol Serves you right. goodie!

  • Its like she didnt even know the song...fuckin kids these days. No sense of pride for this country.

  • @fistasaverb You know nationalism can be tracked as a one of the many causes of world war I. Add imperialism and you have a deadly combo. So let's not pretend like nationalist are better than anyone else.

  • @fistasaverb Still fistasaverb, I still agree she sucks. Should have at least looked at the music sheet before hand...

  • I feel bad for her

  • LOL!

  • aww bless. The crowd were really supportive.

  • sooo lame how the fire works go off while she's like stuttering... nice of that guy though, i don't think i would have done that

  • i could do that...i cant beleive that...wow

  • omg, i would die, this is why i'd never sing it...1 becuase i can't sing...2 because i wouldn't put my self up for that humiliation HAHA

  • #!. practice

    #2. you don't push yourself

    #3. you have no confidence

but what made it bad for me was she was laughing.

  • shame.... poor girl

  • I love how the crowd just claps and encourages her. Is that Mo cheeks?

  • its jsut bad how she lauighs, it woulda been ok if he had stoped singing.

  • she was fine. ugly hair though.

  • cud be that the national anthem is one song difficult to sing.

  • she gonna let him fuck when shes of legal age.....

  • She didnt know it...dats y he didnt stop. I thought dat was a good save.

  • Bless her heart. She looks so young. She has a pretty voice, although the guy was trying to help her with the words, it seems as if he was throwing her off key. I hope this doesn't discourage her, even professionals mess up every once in a while.

  • could be stage fright - just lost her memory

  • y the hell didnt he shut up.. he made it suck..

  • Cheeks is a class act all the way around...

  • Epic fail
