Home Made Chicken Plucker

I'm looking into keeping chickens, this way they will be looked after well and killed humanely. Anyone buying meat from supermarkets etc are buying poorly treated and inhumanely killed animals and I don't want to be one of those people. This home made plucker seems to work really well although after killing the chicken, dunking in hot water is the main reason the plucking becomes so much easier.

What or how are you heating the water in the scalder? I see an electric cord connected to some tubing in the 5 gallon bucket. If you could send me some details on the plucking machine I would appreciate it. I bought the book 3 yrs ago and now I can't find it. I am building one out of a wash machine tub. Any info would help. Thanks, I think this was great!
