He was Imam of Makkah, and he is still imam in an another mosque in Saudi Arabia.

There is an another famous recitator : Tawfiq As-Sayegh (he is from Eritrea if I'm not wrong.)

But we only have to remember the famous companion Bilâl Ibn Rabah (may Allah be pleased with him) who is the first muezzin of our ummah.
