well zelda is an rpg/action game. everyone saying its not a rpg. but it is a ROLE PLAYING GAME. you get to level up, roam dungeons, and buy and trade weapons... all the symptoms of a role playing game.
@ThePariah13 umm, r u on drugs? the only zelda where u level up is zelda 2, and the only zelda where you get to customize what link equips is ocarina of time (and twilight princess but not in an rpg like way)
i just dont get why people say its an rpg, it has absolutely no rpg elements whatsoever.
@evilameba1 no your right, i should have worded that differently. you grow stronger throughout the game. thats more of what i was trying to say when i said you level up.
I always though of this game as a "Choose Your Own Adventure" book. If you were a fan of those as a kid, then I think you would like this game. Good thing for me! LOL! It was TOTALLY different than any other Dragon Quest game, though!
Those books are awesome!! I have 1 that I read and did every option available. There was a particular ending you cannot get by reading the book correctly. You have to just go to that page. It was awesome.
@FireEmblemForever woops my bad sozlol he protagonist is the main character of the game the one you control. or just the main character of a story etc
DQ the journey of the cursed king was an awessome DQ and it was really big cause it had alternative stories and stuff so it will be hard to get beaten but if nintendo pushes WII to the max they can produce an awessome DQ
It was only a pity that DQ swords was so little cause the gameplay and graphics were excllente but it lacked on equipment cause one of the most fun things on DQ is that we can change to tons of different equipment so if they can make a DQ with tons of equipment and longer cool
1.) Short games are not automatically *bad* games.
2.) I also need to find a game as good as Dragon Quest 8. I've been thinking possibly DQ5, but I'm not sure. DQ8 is the only DQ I've really played so far, haha.
Hmm I was considering too buy this, But since it is 1st person vieuw I let this tittle pass, I prefer a 3th person vieuw in a rpg game, I want some more gameplay... But thats matter of taste I geuss ^^
i dont think he knows what hes talking about! this game is excellent and i agree with MSClericking how you only need to move it an inch and how that guy said a bunch of crap. I do agree that it sucks how it is all moving with the d-pad but...oh well...
I got DQS yesterday and am absolutely loving it! I beat the main story already, so it's true that it's short, but it has fantastic replay value. It's also true that it's a basic RPG setup, but the gameplay comes from the arcade gaming, not the RPG aspect. It's really more an arcade. I found it so bullshit how he said in the review that the swing detection is a bit off. A larger swing doesn't equal good hits for me. I only have to move the Wiimote an inch to get a hit out of it!
This game rocks. I don't like RPGs (except Zelda Twilight Princess and Light Crusader) and If you can beat DQS in a couple of sittings, YOU ARE PLAYING IT TOO LONG. Go do something else, play another game, life is not about buldozing your way through videogames as fast as possible. If you want that, play Geometry Wars Galaxies(nice game)
I agree that Zelda is not turn based gameplay niether do you get companions, but you don't think that in Zelda Game you Play the Role of Link? GPR=RPG? Can't we call it a Action RPG. When I think of a pure action game, I think of No more Heroes or SonicSecret Rings. Kinda like Mario Galaxy isn't a pure platformer like NinjaBread Man(more Platforms than fighting), but it is a Action Platformer(even). Some may argue Mario Galaxy is only one(Platform or Action), but I rather just say both.
When you think about it, the Zelda games are action RPGs, especially later ones, where you had towns, could buy items, better weapons, shields. You do upgrade your health, just in a different way, and many more reasons I could come up with. The stories in later ones were much better, longer and more detailed like RPGs as well. In short, Zelda games are RPGs.
Rpg isn't really even a genre anymore. Every game genre practically has a story and towns and weapon upgrades. EVEN Tetris got a story! I think gameplay mechanics get confused for Genre sometimes, which is why some "Turn-based RPG" fans get offended at the thought of Zelda (Playing the Role of Link game) sitting at the same table as NON-Action gameplay RPG's in the highschool cafeteria of games. Sheesh. I like Dragon Quest swords because, the enemy is turn based, but I don't have to wait my Turn
Yeah Zelda has rolled a lot of elements from different Genres while beefing up it's world. As for Tetris...There was a Tetris game called, "TETRIS WORLDS." It is seriously fun and your puzzle board actually travels around different areas, Underworld caves with Lava, Icey tundras, Jungles. It came out for Gamecube and XBOX. The story combines a tale about these bock people, with a single Eye, who need power(I forget why), and you destroy Lines of Blocks to generate that power to achieve your goal
@snowymech Yes, but in RPGs you have variety in upgrades, and usually your choices will be different than that of another player. In Zelda most of the weapons and armor are mandatory. Zelda is an Action Game.

Yeah, but meh, if the game is too long, its kinda tedious at times to replay through it
DQVIII was quite long counting all the sidequests + post game content. Easily 80+ Hours

Wait? Did Akira Toriyama not do the artwork for this game? The main character actually does not look like an incarnation of Goku.

Sorry, I think my initial comment was a bit harsh. Guess it really don't matter. His artwork is still good even if it all looks the same.

Too bad Nintendo didn't "produce" it, and the graphics were bland, and the gameplay was terrible...
But yea other then that you were almost correct.
