You forgot to explain the tucking the last cross under part of the job. It is bad if none are done, but if you are not paying attention to this , then some will be tucked under and others not, and that is even worse.
@Fuckyouyoutuube well, if it is laced by someone who's watching a tutorial how to do it on youtube i would think that it was their first time and the wheel would probably not hold up as well as someone who does it 'professionally' / with experience in a store. so i kinda avoid doing it myself. :)
@h0wn0wbr0wnc0w95 It's not hard to do, Just did a 2 cross pattern on a motorcycle with tighter tollerances than a bicycle. No problem whats so ever. It's really easy. Learn how to do it, and make sure it's done right. Just because they work in a shop doesn't mean they know what they are doing. Could be someone new, or learning the trade. Who knows.
@MrMagpiesRule You don't have to if you feel that the spokes are in good enough condition to reuse, however it is always recommended to start with fresh spokes, so that the build lasts as long as possible, no use in throwing away spokes though if you ask me! :) oh! also, the hub will need to have the same size flanges as the old one in order to have the spokes work, that or ever so slightly smaller as spokes stretch over time Good Luck! :)
@andrewfelldown Yes, however it is not reccomended as the rim will not be evenly supported by spokes. equal tensioning will be harder to achieve. you will be on a wild goose chase going down that path. you have been warned! best of luck!
@j50393 hey man , all my back wheels are 48 , i sumtimes do em 5 cross but normally 4, wen you start the first 2 spoke have to be 9 holes apart and outbound , then when all the outbounds are done you should have 2 holes between each outbound for the inbounds to go in. it's pretty simple when you get the jist , this site helped me wen i first started ... btw i'm not scottish! bbc.co.uk/scotland/sportscotland/airtight/bmx/tech_tips/index.shtml
i was doing this and i got half way around one side and the spokes wouldnt reach ......................and i did the whole side and it wouldnt pop put a little like it should
for who ever watches this video it iz true that its recomended cross is 3 but i recomend 4 cross its stronger & alot better also u dont need to call up a bike shop nor danscomp or something to figure out spoke size u can basicly use 194mm for 4cross so no matter wat size flang on eather size it should work fine! i have laced over duzen BMX rims for my self & friends & i have always used 194,195.
113racing: i made this method with 4 corss, as shown in the vid. the only thing that you have to pay attention, that if you take the fourth inner spike after that outter, the spikes between them, you have to put them on your left, beacause they will be the end of the circle. and if you dont put them there, there won't be any space for the spikes that you want to lace.
sorry for my english, it's not my mother tongue :)
Just finished lacing my odessey v3 after two hours. It was my first time and I learned everything from this vid. It was a 48 hole so used for cross. Thanks a bunch!
omg my way is so much easier than ur's!!!! i do it where i put all the spokes in on oneside on the hub then put it on the rim twist the hub then put the spokes on the other side on.... and when my might was teaching me how to build a wheel he told me to avoid ur way cos its a lot harder
Hey thanks for the 411! I can't believe it's that easy to lace a wheel! What is the difference when you do a 32? I have one I have to lace and after this I'm ready for the challenge!
This guys way of spoking a tire is so confusing. You let the spokes from the top flange fall straight down and you drop the spokes on the bottom flange in between where the top spokes fall.
the mechanic tied the knot on the bended axle and the rear wheel stopped shaking afterward !!!
or maybe he was just telling me that and when I told him not to change the wheel he simply reassembled the wheel again and tied the knots and everything working fine
sorry to hear man, ive used it on 4 cross hundreds of times, but i cant exactly figure out what youre doing wrong without you telling me so... good luck :)
well ive gotten my bike down to as light as possible now im just trying to save all the ounces, like i have no chromies lol, i have no, and i painted the rim a badass green and i ran out of green paint lol
did you ever try lacing a wheel with the spokes inside the flange? My friend said its the best because you won't need to buy hub guards because the spokes will be out of the way of grinds. Could you tell me if their is a down side to this? I was thinking of lacing my next wheel like this.

I really dont get the part after you put the spokes missing each other on 1 flange side but the how do you decide where to put them on the other side?
drop one flange, hold the hub so the spokes dangle downward, make sure to hold the hub straight up and down, and then drop the other spokes into the bottom flange, into the hole that is to the left of the now hanging spokes
It's doesn't matter which direction you start to as long as you do the opposite on the other side (example: start left, right on the other side. start right? left on the other side).
Also, crossing the outbounds under the inbounds adds a lot of lateral stiffness to the wheel.
ZOMG! Please further refrain yourself from spreading your misinformation. This comment definitely receives a regal thumbs down from me
Ya as far as that goes..it is true and i am in agreement..I am a motorcycle tech for a living and the inbound spoke has to be OVERLAPING the outbound so pressure is exerted equally on cross points..your method takes the inbound and crosses UNDER THE OUTBOUND which is not allowing the pressure to be exerted proporly and defeating the purpose of this lace pattern.. I didnt mean to be so rude and abrubt but please check out any Original Factory Wheel and look closely how its laced...

ok after you take the first outbound spoke and cross it with the 3rd inbound spoke on the left what spoke do you cross after the first 2? like how many spokes do you count from the left after you put the one 3rd inbound? cause after puting the first 2 in i get stuck lol
screw him and his outbound inbound its just more confusing to listen to him put the outbound spokes underneath the opposite ones going in the other way put all the spokes on one side first lace them up like hes doing and repeat for the other side
the inbounds are one color, the outbounds are the other so for 3 cros ou take one blue(or black) and count up to the 3rd black(or blue) and cross those, make sure to cross the outbound spoe behind the inbound for strength :)
You forgot to explain the tucking the last cross under part of the job. It is bad if none are done, but if you are not paying attention to this , then some will be tucked under and others not, and that is even worse.

can you buy a rim without having to change the spokes ?
jackshep94 11 months ago
@jackshep94 if you buy a rim (outer hoop) you won't be able to use it without attaching it to your bike somehow!
if your current spokes are very used (stretched) and/or not the right length, you should use new spokes as well :)

you just take the next inbound and outbound to the left (or right if that's the way you prefer)
Fuckyouyoutuube 3 years ago
ok after you take the first outbound spoke and cross it with the 3rd inbound spoke on the left what spoke do you cross after the first 2? like how many spokes do you count from the left after you put the one 3rd inbound? cause after puting the first 2 in i get stuck lol
MiChAeLrIdEsBmX 3 years ago
screw him and his outbound inbound its just more confusing to listen to him put the outbound spokes underneath the opposite ones going in the other way put all the spokes on one side first lace them up like hes doing and repeat for the other side

i thought it was every 2....
iFootJami 3 years ago
it dont matter 36 or 48 keep skipping every 3
eze14213 3 years ago
when you put the spokes in. There going in from the side with the driver on it right?
iFootJami 3 years ago
i would recommend skipping every 4th
Fuckyouyoutuube 3 years ago
then skip every 4th hole on the hub
but it's really not that simple. to be correct you will need various lengths of spokes
Fuckyouyoutuube 3 years ago
lace 6 and skip 2

what if my hub is 48 nd my is 36
maiiko2912 3 years ago

Fuckyouyoutuube 3 years ago

he has a nice wheel set up. im gunna be getting a a alienation v2 f/c with a alienation black sheep rims. nice color of the set up
veilsideracing20011 3 years ago
hmm.. w8 so by inbound and outbound u mean every other one? like black, blue, black, blue? message me plz
Xsl1pkn0tX 3 years ago
the inbounds are one color, the outbounds are the other so for 3 cros ou take one blue(or black) and count up to the 3rd black(or blue) and cross those, make sure to cross the outbound spoe behind the inbound for strength :)
