@bnsonata I am using a PC too, with linux (about 80% of time - internet - no viruses, multimedia, programming) and windows (for gaming) on the same PC . PC is a piece of hardware, you can run linux, bsd or windows or even Mac OS on it (it is then called Hackintosh).
@cozmoz365 Honestly, I'd say that Linux as a woman works pretty well too. Linux is sometimes overly complicated and takes a lot of work to get what you want out of it. That being said, you're always going to get a lot out for what you put in.
@mlk22771 There's an official id Software ftp server where you can download source code of many of their engines and games (up to Doom 3 I think). There are also Linux native binaries of their games (up to Quake 4 I think). So I'm believe them if they say there will be Linux version of Rage. Valve Corporation is another story...
@CLICKMEYOULOSER I play games under Wine. Some older ones have problems with resolution and stuff and some newer ones have problems with not being able to run under anything less than DirectX 6518518684894. DirectX is the plague of gaming. Where are the days every decent game had OpenGL renderer?
@dante4d OpenGL is pretty unoptimized for newer hardware. And DirectX is meh. With my current hardware, if I could run a game with both options, I would pick DirectX. Cleaner. If I got my 11 year old PC rig out of my basement, I would go for OpenGL.
And I advise you heavily, use Windows for gaming instead of using Wine. You get a performance boost (Kind of) and no more compatibility issues.
@CLICKMEYOULOSER I don't play the newer games at all, so I don't need that extra 16xFSAA at full HD and other crap. Some good examples where I could test it? Most recent thing I have would be probalby Left 4 Dead 2 or Doom 3/Quake 4. I'm thinking about getting Rage now. But no way I'm going to put anything Microsoft on my physical hard rive any more, I'm sure about that. I did some programming back then in both DirectX and OpenGl. DirectX used to be a mess...
@dante4d Ahh, yes, finally another Programmer like me that understands. While DirectX is clean for the modern hardware, it's a bunch of crap to code. OpenGL is much more simple, which is probably why it got overtaken in today's technology. I still suggest you use Windows 7. As much as I hate Microsoft, I still use their OS.
@CLICKMEYOULOSER Today I checked Rage. It's id Tech 5 engine. It's rendering system uses OpenGL and Carmack plans to make Linux port somewhere in the future. Meanwhile, they released Doom 3 (id Tech 4 I suppose) source code as open source. I'll have to check that, I haven't seen any id Soft code for 5 years.
Oh yay, only the shittiest of the shitty ways to animate. Get yourself flash or some shit, rather than supporting a crappy service that crushes all creativity.
I use Windows 7 to browse the internet, play games, even edit movies. I hardly use Mac. I use Linux to host servers. I think that the representation of Linux being the "prettiest" operating system is highly inaccurate. Windows or Mac would be the "prettiest" operating system, but being the "prettiest" comes with its drawbacks. Linux is so much more customizable than Windows or Mac; Linux can be a home computer to a server to any computer in between. It sacrifices ease of use for flexibility.
@Peanutsreveng3 I'm not sure what you mean by fifty discs, nor why you still abide by outdated information, but I have never burned Ubuntu into a disc; I prefer USB sticks instead. There are some Linux distributions that are divided into multiple ISOs to make for faster downloading, though.
@Rorintosh Not really, you have Crossover Linux (Helps to run some Windows software), Wine and PlayOnLinux. The Linux community has come a long way over the 6 years I've been using it and many of the programs that people are accustomed to running on Windows can be run on. Aside from that different Linux distributions have their own apps to replace what a person may be used to running on Windows and sometimes Mac.
@MaestroDraven No no, you don't get it. I DO get new OSes. But it's silly that you need to. I mean really the only reason why I upgrade is because I need the new OS to allow new hardware to work properly. Like Direct X11 in Windows 7.
Then again I usually set up a dual boot. Is it possible to upgrade the OS these days without losing your game installations etc?
Ok well first of all, DX11 runs on Vista. As for XP, it naturally will not run for several reasons, not the least of which is outdated 32-bit architecture. Sure, Vista and 7 come in 32-bit flavors, but its rather pointless to utilize said OS for DX11 due to several limitations, not the least of which is maximum available RAM on an x86 install. XP served its purpose and gave the world a really great OS, but it's time to move on. Apple did the same thing.
@KittenKoder I am aware new hardware doesn't like old OSes. I just think it's a pain in the arse that if you want Direct X11 you need to get Windows 7, for example.
And since I only just got Windows 7 fairly recently there's no way I'm getting Windows 8. I will be annoyed if the next lot of graphics cards require it.
@johnkingsize check the prices THE MAC OS LESS EXPENSIVE BUT IT UPGRADES A LOT, the windows OS is more expensive but upgrades less..... look up the price for OSX Lion and Windows 7
@snipe2531 the only stupid thing is.. OSX is Linux.. :PPPP OSx is based on FreeBSD.. so free means.. yes you have it.. FREE.. so why shall i buy for something that is free? -_- Linux FTW!
@Spid3rbyteZ Good thought, but... How many times have I googled for some software that is "free", but I found some software that was said to be "free" but that didn't mean "can be had and used without paying for it". Things like "out software is free to use after you pay us $100 and that of course just is the licence, so another $100 per year for support nad of course that doesn't mean upgrade to new version is included". Of course the upgrade is "free", buy after you pay for it...
@dante4d the thing isnt only that its free.. OpenSource is something very good. and Apple has taken an OpenSource Kernel and Opensource software and made them their own.. thats piracy.. and some stupid guys buy for this.. -_-
PC users are into gaming, gaming is for people who have no life and want to escape the real world, cause there depressed with there life. Mac users are people who are creative, not competitive and fun. So there you go, chose witch one you want to be. Its your life after all.

People. Put it this way: if the Linux kernel is used, then it appends "Linux" to whatever the name is. The kernel is still used, just canonical makes some changes using Linux kernel modules (while not tainting the kernel). Ubuntu is still Linux in this light; so is android (using the kernel= Linux)
@supercellodude You are right about Android being Linux using it's kernel but don't try telling that to a Google employee. They claim because they illegally strip the GNU license from the source code it is no longer Linux and they can do anything they want to it.
@TheOriginalSomeone Blame the founder of Ubuntu for that. He is becoming worse then Gates is and Jobs ever was. Unity is a joke. I don't understand why someone would willingly develop for it when he requires them to sign over all of their rights to any code they contribute to it but then expects them to support it, update it, and do so under his terms. He is just proof of what power can do on the note of making a scumbag!
Actually, iOS has taken over the smartphone market, selling more iPads, iPhones, and iPod touches than other companies versions.
Also, just for fun, I think you should know that virus and malware production for the android line of phones, tablets, and computers has gone up approximately 430%
In the last year because of android's idiotic decision to allow anyone to freely write apps without having them checked by android or being put on the app store. Kind of like a giant app
@Ograws I agree. It's the best version to introduce someone to linux. NO hassle and it's up and running within 25 minutes or less. Windows takes at least 45 minutes to install os alone. Linux is better. Any way look at android, they rule the mobile market share now, that linux. need we say more?
@Ograws Ubuntu is not developing it's own kernel. Why don't you make up some more fiction about Ubuntu. You don't know what you are talking about, so I suggest you just keep your mouth shut before you show more people then this you know absolutely nothing about what you are talking about.
@Ograws Ubuntu does not have it's own kernel. It is the Linux kernel. I don't know what kind of drugs you are on to think otherwise but they must be some real good ones.
@SgtCraigHart1 its much too user-friendly i enjoy some challenge and also i don't like it because unity is a piece of crap and makes it the mac os x of linux distributions
@emewify yeah i feel you unitys pretty bad and i use ubuntu because i feel comfortable with it at this point. now after i learn some more i'd like to try out other non ubuntu based distros. cheers

@Ograws linux mint is fairly good... im more of a debian or fedora fan.. im currently use fedora 14

@Ograws I agree. It's the best version to introduce someone to linux. NO hassle and it's up and running within 25 minutes or less. Windows takes at least 45 minutes to install os alone. Linux is better. Any way look at android, they rule the mobile market share now, that linux. need we say more?

@Ograws what do you mean it isn;t really linux anymore? have they stopped using the linux kernel?

@Ograws Ubuntu is not developing it's own kernel. Why don't you make up some more fiction about Ubuntu. You don't know what you are talking about, so I suggest you just keep your mouth shut before you show more people then this you know absolutely nothing about what you are talking about.

@Ograws there is anything bad about that, is more like costum distro but it still have original linux core

@Ograws how is Ubuntu not Linux?
Tununias 3 months ago
@Tununias It used to be Linux thats how it started off. But it has its own Kernel and also the Unity interface is exclusive to Ubuntu
Ograws 3 months ago
@Ograws Nope, Ubuntu uses a normal Linux kernel.

@Ograws Ubuntu does not have it's own kernel. It is the Linux kernel. I don't know what kind of drugs you are on to think otherwise but they must be some real good ones.

@emewify why does everyone hate ubuntu?
SgtCraigHart1 2 months ago
@SgtCraigHart1 its much too user-friendly i enjoy some challenge and also i don't like it because unity is a piece of crap and makes it the mac os x of linux distributions
emewify 2 months ago
@emewify yeah i feel you unitys pretty bad and i use ubuntu because i feel comfortable with it at this point. now after i learn some more i'd like to try out other non ubuntu based distros. cheers

@emewify i prefer kubuntu myself (as started out with KDE rather then Gnome) but i mostly use SuSe for my everyday stuff.
