Wow I see a lot of comments about Vice City. I never really saw it as a cultural phenomenon but I must recognize it as so now. Makes a fella wish he had a Dolorian time machine.
@sonyguy94 Oh, yeah. There was even a software one out for the Commodore 64 around '82. In this case though they probably just processed his voice with a synthesizer, rather than feeding the lyrics in text through a computer.
@EdRacer71 ...just another idea from one of the brilliant marketing gurús with 2 MBAs. As usual closed in their ivory towers with no idea and no interest about what the market wants.
@Pillbuxing . From a marketing point of view and if you only care for the number of clicks (Per Per Click), you are absolutely right, Pillbuxing :-). Now, let's analize it: Thomas Dolby's video is "unknown" due to the year when this video was launched (I was 17 y.o., then). The question is: how many of those millions clicks (Kanye West) are due to Thomas Dolby's (people like me) redirected link ? :-). ...thank you for your simple but logical comment :-).
@victor6303 I don't think they care to be honest, which was my original point haha, if they're so shut in and out of touch how do they have so many hits on one video that it really doesn't matter whether you click on their ad or not :P
@Pillbuxing . It matters, Pillbuxing: you "pay per click". Explanations for so many clicks, well, you are assuming that all of them come from Thomas Dolby's video (!)... I guess that even many of us have clicked because of people uses to click to any single option they are offered. That's why, today, the client demands not only number of clicks, but Quality in the clicks (i.e.: the people who click is REALLY highly interested in the subject). I did something similar and received many visits...
@victor6303 lol you're the one making the assumption, I'm not making any. For a third time, even if absolutely 0 of those views are from this video, it doesn't matter, they have proven with that number of views they're obviously tuned into what people want. And FYI, both videos are owned by vevo so there's no PPC model for advertising their own videos on their own videos :P.
...but, how many of them repeated and visited my site? barely some of them... or may be no one :-). It is easy to get a click but if you are not really interested, you get back to the main subject... and very annoyed :-)))
@Pillbuxing . From a marketing point of view and if you only care for the number of clicks (Per Per Click), you are absolutely right, Pillbuxing :-). nice one EMI blocking the alternative version to this song (miles better) suppose you want us to watch your adverts? ah yes, spanish language adverts really make a bit impact in a UK market.
Almost completely atypical of TD's work. If you hate this song you should definitely check out his other stuff. If you love it, still do, he is a great composer, & you never know.
However:
Songs with 'I'm going crazy/insane" in them are not about mental illness, and this is not about ADHD. It is the most vacuous of pop psychology, with any old line that sounds good mixed in. If it made people less scared of it or something, then great, maybe that will make up for the misinformation.
@bucky468 Haha I bet weird al did xD. Hmm I don't know, only 16 so only have heard a few of his songs hehe, but I bet it probably was played there depending which songs.
I don't get the concept of this song or video - No really - I don't. When it comes to Thomas Dolby I liked him when he worked w/Foreigner on "Foreigner 4" on "Urgent" & "Waiting For A Girl Like You" - but when it comes to this junk I just don't get it.
@dsauce93 I know all about ADHD (may have had it at one time during my childhood) but I had no idea Dolby wrote a song about it. OK I admit it - I'm not that much of a Dolby buff. He's a multi-talented musician & he's very intellectual but his music just ain't my cup of tea. This is for Dr. Demento's show. Fits perfectly in w/Demento's format. Weird Al liked this song lol.
Excuse me for my ingorance, but what came first -- Matt Johnson (The The) and Infected, or Mr Dolby with this release? One of those blokes owes the other one a credit, or at least a beer or two . . . Bass samples, sounds and arrangements are a bit too close for comfort!
