The problem is not that Muslims took over Constantinople, because when the Crusaders conquered the city they pretty much destroyed Hagia Sophia too--they desecrated it by destroying all of its treasures, all the statues, the golden draperies, everything that was of any value was taken away to Western Europe, and the church was never restored to its former glory. So you see, it didn't matter whether Christians or Muslims conquered the city--it was still devastated.

Turkey is a NATO country. The secular West would honour its treaty obligation to defend any ally attacked from the outside, esp. Russia.
Keep the faith: the gates of Hades will not prevail against the Church, regardless if the first, second & third Romes are under heretics & pagans.

Going beyond all the religious discussion, If that building had been built in my city it would have been torn down and rebuilt multiple times before being turned into a parking lot. Amazing that it is still standing!

It was God's punishment to surrender this Great Church and the Holy city of Orthodox Christians to Islam..
Costantinople didn't conquered by the Ottoman Turks,it was given by the Christians..
We must now live with that, and no have dreams that some day we will take the city back.

There's no point blaming this person or that person, especially for something that happened hundreds of years ago and for something none of us experienced at all. It's done, whether it was unfortunate or not. We have our own lives to live. I'm Greek and would personally love for Agia Sophia to be a functioning church. But will it happen? No. The chanting in this video is a testament to that former greatness. I am proud just to even inherit this history in some way at all. Peace.

For any theologian, historian, philosopher religion will always be up to debate. The problem is not that Muslims took over Constantinople, because when the Crusaders conquered the city they pretty much destroyed Hagia Sophia too--they desecrated it by destroying all of its treasures, all the statues, the golden draperies, everything that was of any value was taken away to Western Europe, and the church was never restored to its former glory. So you see, it didn't matter whether Christians or Muslims conquered the city--it was still devastated.

The supporters of the idea wanting Hagia Sofia convert back to a church arent seem more reasonable than the Turkish radical Islamists who is fighting it to be converted to a Mosque for years. So keeping it as a museum is the best way amongst those radicals both sides!
