  • I heard this over 100 times I even no it by heart and every time I here it it's just as spine tingling as the first

  • I heard this poem a few mths back and my mind went back to it as soon as i heard of my aunt's passing.....simple fact of life is that we're only granted a short time on this planet and very soon we'll all have to go...

  • that one dislike was by accident..it has to be cause you don't dislike something this powerful..no matter who you are young, or old..

  • Amazing.....my inspiration to continue the art of poetry!

  • thank you for posting this

  • He died on my 12th birthday, how odd that almost exactly four years later i would begin to seriously write my own poetry, inspired by poets like him and Frost... may he rest his soul in peace, lying tranquil upon that beach.

  • R.I.P oscar brown jr

  • Classic example of poetic and presentational mastery

  • Man if you don't feel this then you probably not that smart. Mortality

  • wow this guy is a MACHINE

  • Hey, it's the REAL Thomas O'Malley.

  • "Speak softly but carry a big stick" I love the fact that nobody makes a sound everybody just shuts up and pays attention. Which by the way is the only way you learn from life.

  • ive only just rediscovered my love of poetry, and this poem is one of the most powerful iv ever heard, brings a tear each time i hear, him say these words i now hold so dear.

  • damn.. he hit the beach on my birthday

  • r.i.p. Oscar

  • Five years later...I still miss and mourn him.

  • There is no prayer to pray or preach or beg us off in any tongue for we've out lived dying young

  • And those that do leave that beach alive were never meant to die or are immortal and meant to fade into memory. So NO ONE leaves that beach alive.

  • No one leaves this world alive.

  • Touching.

  • .......He spoke with such conviction, This is my favorite poem ever!!!!! I almost cried... lol

  • @LERROUIX7 Almost? I cried the first time I heard it, and a few times since. It's soooo haunting and authentic, gotta love it

  • @ryder7984 The fact that he compares living life just to die, with D-Day was brilliant. Especially how he described dying of old age as, "facing fire at point blank range" It makes you think...............

  • So powerful! A delicious allusion to storming of the beaches of Normandy during the world war. Such a great man. Peace be with you Oscar. Thanks

  • He reminds me a lot of Dr.Seuss.

  • I love this. It is so gentle, scary and accepting all in one.
