  • Watching Mark Waugh bat gives me a chubby...

  • VVS Laxman was the test version of Mark Waugh

  • Steve Waugh was a hell of a player, but I'll take Mark Waugh any day

  • if they had 20/20 back when Mark Waugh was playing he would be fit for it

  • Mark Waugh was my fav right handed opener. Such a lovely stroke player. He's my inspiration

  • I would pay almost anything to have the same kind of bat he had here

  • Gorgeous, my favourite batsman to watch.

  • My most favourite batsman. A delight to watch him bat. He wielded his bat like a surgical instrument. Soft hands, minimal backlift,; he would just tap/glide the ball and run for a single. The king of lazy elegance! I felt he would've done better at the No. 3 position; he could either anchor or explode.

  • why was steve batting so far down the order?

  • I was 13 and at this match with my dad, will never forget that innings Waugh is a flipping legend

  • It's like he's not even trying.

  • Why the hell was Ian Harvey batting before Damien Martyn??

  • @TheBigO86 Exactly

  • Mark Waugh will always come in at 4 after Brian Lara in my all time dream team.

  • froffin...

  • lol..5:38

  • I cannot understand why he was not outstanding in tests? An average of about 42 is good. But with his talent he should have averaged around 50. Some of the "not so good" batsmen today have average well over 50.

  • @gokulsreeragam He admits he never had the hunger, way too many soft dismissals, and he rarely if ever went on with it after getting a ton. A lot of his best innings were 70's and 80's. Only one score above 150, which is not good. Never had the patience.

  • @robelinda2 Talent alone won't make a good cricketer or should i say talent is not just the ability to play the right shots for the right balls.... Anyway it is such a pity.... I will never say Ponting is a better batsman than mark waugh. He always made batting and fielding look so easy. He did not do justice to his fans.

  • @gokulsreeragam I agree, but even so, in the 90s only 3 batsmen actually averaged over 50. Stephen Waugh, Lara and Tendulkar (who actually averaged almost 60). NO ONE else averaged more than 45. I think Mark Waugh with 42 was actually 5th or 6th in the highest averages for that decade. The bowling and the conditions were MUCH more difficult than they are now. Even crap batsmen like Samaraweera and Cook average over 50.

  • @gypoinc You are right. But even steve Waugh finished with an average of fifty. M waugh was a real match winner in Limited overs- When he scores a good score, it would often result in a victory(particularly in big chases, much like our ganguly). I won't hesitate to call him one of the finest limited overs batsmen..But not so sure about the tests. About cook and Samaraweera..I couldn't agree more.

  • @gypoinc Miandad's avg never went down below 50 ever

  • @imthemess Barely played in the 90s, only til 92/93 so he doesn't qualify for the statistic.

  • @gokulsreeragam not so good batsman like the indians and srilankans...flat track bullies

  • @nottellingu0 Sri lanka has Sangakkara who is a class batsman. India has Dravid and Tendulkar-both have done well in almost all conditions. But the present day cricket does not demand much skill...Indians are much better than Lankans. But Indian battiing quality is declining-thanks to Ipl. Case in point Murali Vijay( who 'had the skill'). I do not know what your nationality is ,but if you are an Australian- beware of Big Bash. It will kill quality batsmen from your country.

  • hey rob would love to see punters innings from this match, bet he would have played some cracking shots

  • @gokulsreeragam Most of it has to do with the flatter wickets in general in the 2000s and the lack of quality bowlers compared to the 90s.

  • @shamsmi i am a huge fan of him.that is why i cannot digest that. He was a very good player. And i don't think he has any double hundreds in tests. Anyway, he is one of those artists in cricket..

  • @gokulsreeragam He actually found batting a boring task, so he would start playing un-orthodox shots or inventing shots that would usually get him out, he was much more talented than Steve Waugh, but without the hunger and the patience your doomed for failure, this is why i admire Steve Waugh immensely, less talent than Mark Waugh, but the hunger that could drive a nation. That is the true talent.

  • @gokulsreeragam If S Waugh had the talent M Waugh had he'd have averaged 65, Mark had all the talent in the world, Steve had all the toughness and grittyness in the world, by themselves they were two great cricketers, combined they'd have been one of the all time best

  • @MrPresident2032 agreed to the first part..But can't say Mark waugh was great in tests..And you have already explained why.. :-)

  • One of the most graceful batsmen to bat for the Baggy Green.

  • This is such a treat! Thank you @robelinda2!

  • Thank you so much for this. I was out that day and I missed one of the best innings ever by my favourite cricketer and I haven't been able to see it till now

  • One of the classy elegant player less of effort more of timing and one of the champion match winner in the golden aussie team fablous to watch when he drives the ball and plays suqure of the wicket

  • Wow i just realized that u have 999 videos i wonder what the 1000 is gonna b ?also can u upload viv Richards batting against new zealand im not sure wat year but it was when richards hadlee was playing i sore it on espn legends of cricket

  • Elegant is the adjective I would use to best describe M Waugh. Its amazing how the greats make it look so so easy. I was glad to see him play on quite a few occasions and it is certainly was true that Australia was blessed by such magnificent players of that era. Oh well the wheel turns and its our turn to take our lumps, however well Australia does in the future I doubt we will ever see the like of Junior again. He was truly unique and gifted player.

  • I watched him play many times at the SCG. Watching M. Waugh and Gilly open the batting together was always a treat. You knew they would knock up at least 150 between them, and at least 100 in the first 15 overs. Unbelievable player... Almost makes me want to cry when you see some of the talentless hacks on display these days (by internation cricketing standards anyway)

  • Amazing cricketer. Probably the best hands to ever play cricket. He played the flick shot off his pads better than anyone ever has or will.

  • @hussler1984 Must have had Indian blood, his wrists were so good!!!!

  • @robelinda2 i think u mean to say that every indian has Mark Waugh blood in them

  • @robelinda2

    Not sure if being sarcastic.

    : /

  • @hussler1984 He's flick i promise you was a work of art !!!!!!

  • @hussler1984 You're absolutely right. U spoke my heart. He was a stylish stroke player. I still remember his flicks. I love his style of batting

  • @vindaisatossermini I was just thinking that, only a few minutes ago, he was in brilliant form all summer, went England and pounded the Poms, came home that was his last Aussie summer. Just didnt know how to dig in and do it tough near the end, in England he was just sublime in 2001, but once he got past 100 it was play time!

  • Best batsman, best pair of catching hands in cricket.

  • gosh i miss him

  • thanks for this!

Mark Waugh was such an uncomplicated player, with an uncomplicated technique and an uncomplicated mindset. He always played most balls on their merit. Seldom improvised unless absolutely necessary. And he batter in exactly the same fashion, be it Tests or ODIs.

  • thanks for this!

mark waugh was such an uncomplicated player, with an uncomplicated technique and an uncomplicated mindset. He always played nearly all balls on their merit. Seldom improvised unless absolutely necessary. And batted in exactly the same fashion, be it tests or odi's.

  • I remember my old man picking me up from school early to go and watch this game. was unbelievable. still the best odi innings i've seen

  • Why was Steve Waugh batting so low down the order?

  • only 787 views. fukn sad

  • cheers for uploading this, i remember coming home from school, and seeing him clear the boundary ropes in the last few overs

  • Classic Mark Waugh....I remember this innings vividly.

  • Haha advertising widescreen tv. Those were the days. :P
