No doubt she's one of the greatest coloratura sopranos of our time, though she comes off as an utterly frigid personality. Her mastery of her craft should speak for itself, she doesn't need to put on that conspicuously contrived transatlantic accent. Look up an interview with Renée Fleming or Deborah Voigt to see a masterful American soprano who doesn't need to hide behind a presumptuous façade.
i just can't imagine the ecstasy of playing the piano next to her singing at ~7:07. i guess they must be used to it. but still! :-O *sigh* so beautiful.
Two different personalities, two different actress, two really very different physical structures that gives very different voices; la Anderson lirico-leggero coloratura and sutherland una drammatico coloratura.
There is a quality very much reminiscent of La Stupenda that is immensely enjoyable. I believe it's the impeccable coloratura and sensitivity mixed with a very sturdy tone quality in even in the rafters lol.
I love this documentary. I was really expecting it on youtube. The introduction with her Beatrice di Tenda and the "Spargi d'amore" rehearsal are wonderful!

Why is she speaking with a foreign accent? She's American.

not only is her voice pretty, she is too! dramatic coloratura parts are much more believable on beautiful women. it's so rare to have both though.

yes but joan sutherland got a fabulous trill whereas she doesn't even have one strictly speaking
yiudiumui 3 years ago
quite true but....Sutherland´s singing was never interesting though. Not the case wwith Andeerson.
birgitnilsson 3 years ago
yes that´s right, and the interesting part, that she fabricates one with her splendid technique.

I've always thought that her voice lacks something. It's a great quality, but her high notes, I don't know...
singthesilences 4 years ago
She can float some AMAZING high notes...I mean, the high E's in her Semiramide are unbelievable.
