@sheenwashere You've got to slap the strings at the frets that produce the harmonics (e.g. 7th or 12th fret away from where you're playing the chords).
You can refer to the tabs for the exact frets.
I use my index finger to slap lightly on the strings, and when it contacts the strings, I immediately lift them up.

Yeah, nylons are much easier to play in my opinion, but steel/metal has a nicer sound. I usually encounter high gauged steel strings and high bridge acoustic guitars, making playing harder that i'd like. So i stick to my classical, which is much easier to play. I'm lazy... hahah :)

asking what is better between an acoustic and an electric is like asking which is better, a plane or a car. There 2 completely different things. My advice is learn both :)
Still, electric and acoustic-electric are different creatures. Each having their unique sound. You can't put a whammy bar on an acoustic-electric. the acoustic-electric is just for amplifying the sound of the acoustic.
not only it amplifies the acoustic sound, it make certain playing styles easier, for example the slapping technique, harmonics, tapping.... But i think beginner should always start with a nylon strings guitar. People always have a tendency to quit guitar, one the reasons is because it's too hard to master. Try playing flamenco on acoustic steel string you'll know what i mean.
