  • why am I repeating this song ? :)

  • Hey folks. BBC four on Tuesday 24th Jan 2012 at 23.00 uk time. They are showing the Omnibus: "Song of Summer" programme based on Eric Fenby's memoirs. I believe this is the programme which inspired Kate to write this song.

  • TA TA TA!

  • Tão élfico.....

  • TA TATA.

  • So beautiful it's unreal

  • really like reminds me of a verry old play

  • lady ga who, kate invented this shit!

  • if i had to live in a song this would be it! having that costume would be nice too :) so magical!

  • This video has never been widely treated as a regular Kate Bush clip, which is surprising, taking into consideration the huge amount of work done to prepare this film.

I know, it was a part of a tv performance, but I have always thought of it just the same as of "Cloudbusting" or "The Sensual World". Moreover, I can see some resemblance between the latter and "Delius" - in both clips there is a kind of nature-like set, beautiful costumes and KB dancing in changing ligts.I simply adore this video

  • If it was May- August in Britain forever, I'd be happy. Period.

  • the pure good,

  • @prinznevsky Hi there, I don't here this tune as such on their "Victorialand" album, but it does

remind me of the song they did to an advert long ago for "Fruitopia" check it out on my channel,

Hope thats of some help my friend, have a nice weekend.....!!! :))

  • Just when I thought I'd seen every Kate clip on YouTube I stumble across this! I've loved this song since Never For Ever came out in 1980. I got mine signed at Manchester. Kate was everything I imagined - petite, gorgeous, friendly and with a devestating smile. I seem to remember blushing a lot and saying something like "Ng". She then kissed me on the cheek and I blushed some more and said "Grn". I then wandered out in a daze and had a funny feeling my life had just peaked forever!

  • @cwarn56 Great story.

  • Dear Kate, your are little, tenderly fairy.

    I love you so.

  • She always was ahead of her time and also, the way she incorporated dance and movement and mime, she was interested in the full expressive range of the arts, not in fobbing off her responsibilities as an artist to what technology could do for her to enhance her image.

  • I swear to god the Cocteau Twins used this one song as a template for Victorialand, or is it me?

  • ...and that's not a slight!

  • kate is fantastic! Never for Ever is my fav album. :))

  • Thank you for posting, Symphonyofflowers, beatiful video!

  • AWESOME!

  • the kick inside

  • She is a goddess! One of my favorite musicians of all time.

  • Anyone else up for a night on the water, this song realy makes me want to go on holiday.

  • Love Kate Bush. She's like a crazy big sister.

  • gives me the thrill and thanks for sharing Symphonyofflowers

  • @ondinemanmax You're welcome.

  • weird and beautiful

  • Her eclectic musical style and idiosyncratic vocal style have made her one of the United Kingdom's most successful solo female performers of the past 30 years.

  • @listenchonsienb Thanks, Wikipedia

  • Delius was a genius. Listen to his piece on Nietzsche: 'A Mass of Life'.

  • never seen this video always loved the song!

  • I love this clip and song. It being part of the Dr. Hook show is really funny. :D

  • This was one of my favorite tracks from my first ever album,i still love the music of Kate bush.

  • I have this on record single but I have no record player. I love torturing meself.

  • Kate personifies beauty on every level. She's on another dimension and takes me there through her art and on my hazy return I declare her to be completely unique in this aspect!

  • so sad no one evr knew about kate and him

  • thank you very much for posting this video i had no idea there was a vid for this song

  • No idea there was a video for this! Beautiful :D

  • Thanks for posting this lovely classic! I had never heard it before! Love Kate Bush!

  • beautiful, grew up listening to Kate, ahead of her time always

  • I think in this video Kate is personifying Delius' Swan Songs, those made through Fenby. Beautiful!

  • Thank you...I have always wondered....since I was 17...smiles...she really was way ahead of her time

  • ALL of kate's work is out of this world. there will never be anyone like her. she, and her music just gets more beautiful.

  • very true.she s a wolf amongst the sheeps in the female artists world.she could have easily been a member of any classic rock band.

  • wow i never saw this video! Great

  • Kate Bush was part of my regular playlist since I was a teenager, she is a unique wonan and creator. I wonder what would be the video for "Get out of my house" if she did it.

  • @Ronit7262. she would probably have made something like a small poltergeist clip.she would have been the poltergeist.

  • Remember watching this first time round.

Dr Hook were pointlessly flat and boring to be honest, but then this suddenly appeared, like the remembrance of the most beautiful dream you ever had. The contrast with what was on either side of it was unbelievable.

As the original programme is still held in broadcast quality by the BBC I'm really surprised we haven't seen this clip in at least a compilation or two since.

  • She's so adorable. :)

  • i've never heard of this song nor seen the video. thanks a lot for sharing & exposing k.b. fans to it. :-)

  • You're welcome!

  • This is an amazing, haunting song. Love it! Never heard of Delius before this but I'll definitely listen to some of his compositions.

  • wow really experimental. kind of reminds me of meditation.

  • She is master at everything she does and she is as beautiful as a person can possibly be.

  • After reading the comments and doing a search on Delius i feel like i know everything about this beautiful song.

One thing though still evade me.

Does anyone knows what "amat" means in "delius amat"?

  • "Amat" means "love" in Latin.

  • @henklie

"amat" exactly means "(he, she, it) loves", so "delius loves".

  • This song and "Watching you without me" kind of go together... Budhist inspiration...

check out this one too .. do a search on youtube... Faye Wong - Maitreya Buddha Mantra (fan made MV)

    It's cool!

  • Preraffaellismo puro!Delius...Kate is a genius

  • Heard on the radio that Paloma Faith is being compared to Kate Bush - Kate Bush has more talent in her little finger than Faith has in her whole body.

  • People thinking she's a swan. She's not. She's a moth. On the vinyl of the album she's the moth in the middle. It's related to the bat costume on the back of the cover.

  • thank you poison-its fun because what you see as a batcostume ive always seen as a harpy from greek mythologi:-)

  • There's an old magazine interview where she talks about the costumes. It might be Zigzag or something. My old memory's fading....

  • i know shes supposed to look like a swan-but i think she looks more like an angel:-)

  • You can clearly see that she was way ahead of her time

  • Wow, I've been a fan of Kate's for years and didn't know this was around. Amazing.

  • Ela tá parecendo a Clara Nunes hahaha... mas eu amo a Kate Bush

  • Hahahaha! É mesmo!

  • Damn, I wish I was in that place where she is in the video...love her!

  • I love you Kate

  • i like to kiss to this song

  • Beautiful

  • I like it, but can anyone explain what's going on here ?

  • he wasn't necessarily mad btw.

  • Yes. Delius was a composer who caught syphilus and was paralysed and unable to write his compostions. His friend Eric Fenby was able to notate his music when Delius would sound out the music note for note thus "ta ta ta in B fenby" In the chorus Kate sings ' syphilus, deus, genius" Delius is the man in the wheelchair, Im not entirely sure who Kate is, but she looks fabulous anyway, dont you agree?

  • She does, and how like her to champion the cause of an eccentric, overlooked genius.

I still find the video content a puzzle though. Perhaps he believed in nature spirits?

  • Well, I'm not sure about the video myself, but I know that Kate is playing a swan in the video.

  • You're name is "Kashka1962" but you're not entirely sure who Kate is? Wow! That's either a coincidence or...? Did you only recently take the YouTube name after discovering Kate Bush?

  • I think he means he is not sure who Kate is playing in the video.

  • I Have been a fan of Kate since 1978! I meant I dont know the character she is visually representing in the song.

  • Ditto:):):) Bellissimo bello!!! Cinque stelle***** Tutta bella song, video loamo!!! Chin Chin Chente Anni Salute Ciao:):):)***:):):)

  • Dressed as a swan maiden, Kate Bush is dancing for F. Delius, "savante...deus." Doesn't every one? ;-)

  • She is frighteningly talented

  • Cha cha cha mmm! Thank you so much for sharing this. God she's sexy.

  • You're welcome.

  • Never-fading favourite. Would sit nicely in a modern ambient mix.

  • Your Wish has come true. Check this out; isohunt(dot)com/torrent_details/99659333/?tab=summary

This is a compilation of film soundtrack excerpts from Ken Russell's Song Of Summer [1968] and various music. It was inspired mainly by Kate Bush's Delius[Song Of Summer], which thus inspired me to track down said movie and it followed from there.

  • Thank you, I will check it out.

  • I have completed the project Songs.Of.Summer.Fenby. It is 98 min., '4 Sides' and can be dl'd at thepiratebay(dot)org/torrent/5014505

  • Dragonflies over a lake in sunny July....

  • I know the background of the song, but if I didn't, I'd presume she was on some pretty damn heavy drugs when she was planning this song. xD

  • love u genius kate

  • ;-) she is awesome.

  • Love this song!!!! it relaxes me.

  • That set looks mighty expensive for just a TV performance.

It looks more like a video (& i'm sure that cardboard yellow sun is the same one used in the "Breathing" video).

What TV show is this performance from & where can I download an uncompressed copy?

  • This is from a TV show with Kate and Dr. Hook from 1980. The video was made especially for the show and has never been released.

I don't know where you can download a copy. I have searched for one myself but with no luck.

And yes, the cardboard sun is the same one used in the "Breathing" video.

  • I think the only existing source is this very poor VHS recording that has been tranferred to DVD and can be found in various fan collections around the world. Apart from that theres no other known source existing. Well, maybe it still exists in the BBC vaults somewhere or other. The '79 Xmas special got leaked somehow or other in high quality, so maybe someday or other this will be too. We live in hope.

  • Thanks both of you. Does anyone know if the "Showtime" special is still available anywhere?

  • The original recording still exists. If you watch the video "Kate Bush in one minute" here on YouTube you can see a short clip. And if you watch the video "Kate Bush - Dr Hook - Babooshka & Delius" you can see a better version of this video.

  • that damn piano!!!!

  • And what do you mean by that?

  • basically i love that damn piano

  • "basically i love that damn piano"

Kate plays it very nicely, doesn't she?

  • Does anybody know if this was a different vocal as it sounds slightly different to the album version?

Thankyou SOF for keeping this Kate gem on here.

  • I guess this is the version that was used on the "Army Dreamers" single. I don't have the single myself, but it seems likely.

  • Just listened to my copy of the album version and it's identical...

I know the video source for this, I have a copy myself. I only wish there was a better quality recording available.

I think I can remember watching this when it aired on TV. Jesus Christ, she was beautiful, wasn't she?

  • she still is beautiful!!!!!!!

  • WOW, Thanx Symphonyofflowers! I kinda thought it meant that but was not quite sure. "Never Forever is one of my favorites from Kate & I like your posts the most because you put up the lyrics, too!

  • Yes, I always include the lyrics as an extra service to the viewers. And I'm glad that you like my videos.

  • I love Kate...half of the time I have no idea what the hell her songs are about though....but i just find her incredibly passionate and madly talented.....so she say something bout syphilis in this song?...

  • Yes, the song is about the composer Frederick Delius and he had syphilis. If you watch the video "Kate Bush on Russell Harty" here on YouTube you will see where Kate got the inspiration for this song.

  • "I love Kate...half of the time I have no idea what the hell her songs are about though....but i just find her incredibly passionate and madly talented.....so she say something bout syphilis in this song?..."

    "Syphilus, Deus, Genius!"

Syphilitic, but a god and a genius! Understand now?

  • wow..thank you

  • I must be mad because i seem to understand her songs. I think shes a little ahead of her time. Even now.

  • Wow, never realised this song was about syphallitic madness. Dont know if my days been made or ruined!

  • I didn't know that either, until now , and I've been listening to Kate since the 80s (and I also work in health care, so I don't have an excuse, LOL)

    ~K

  • Does anybody know what "Syphilus" means?

  • "Syphilus" is really syphilis, the desease. Frederick Delius had syphilis. Kate probably spelled it "syphilus" to make it rhyme with "Delius", "deus" and "genius".

  • Fabulous performance, this is when kate really 'had it' total originality and style!

  • kate still has it! but she was breath taking then, physically.

  • sorry, i meant to click on the thumbs up, but i clicked the thumbs down!!

    arghhhh!

    definately thumbs up......

  • So ethereal...I love it!!

  • Classic and you all know what i think of the Never For Ever album.

  • Pure talent!

  • Thanks again symphonyofflowers for yet another

    katie classic!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.

  • You're welcome! I uploaded it because the other "Delius" videos got deleted. I thought it was important to keep this video on YouTube.
