beta" its firmware has a keyboard associated with the touch screen, so now you have an option other than sliding out the keyboard. if you get a g1, updated from lthe last 12 months, then it will have said keyboard.

this is a technically a lie that he is saying that it doesnt have a virtual keyboard.. all you have ta do with it to bring it up is to use the trackball wherever you want to to input tect then you just click it (you have it to have portrait mode)

Hey guys i have the tmobile G1 & you can text virtually on your screen instead of using the built-in-keyboard. all u do is press messaging and compose a message and when ur composing the message press on the screen where it says "tpe to compose" & a keyboard should pop up on the screen either in landscape or portrait. Just a G1 Fun Fact:)

Firmware 1.5, which will have come to practically everyone's G1 already, does have a soft key keyboard available, no matter whether in portrait or landscape, and it also comes with auto-rotate in settings, so you don't even need to slide the physical keyboard open if you don't want to. Battery life is ok with the cupcake update, about 6-8 hrs of medium use (calls, no gps, some browsing, email checking, IMing) if you want more life, just go find some batteries on amazon, the original battery is actually priced on amazon for about 8 dollars. for 100% more life in your battery, look for batteries that have 2200mA and up, those batteries go for between $20 and $50
