must be some dumb fat owner that so lazy sold the car by his own at higher price rather than trade in as clunkers for a few thousand rebate for his new car
pariently not every one can afford a $4500 car, in 30 years from now, the car would be $45,000 and a brand new car like a Ford Fiesta would be $120,000 and if they every do CFC again in 30 years than think of your tax payer money of $45,000 per car thrown in a junk piles?

dude there are absolutely hundreds of thousands of cars that are perfectly new and working that get crushed every single year...
it comes down to one thing,, we human species are scum.. we waste so much money and resources to crush a perfectly good working car.. yet there are bangers driving round on the road....
The pity is that you have no brain. Outside looks say nothing of the engine or TRANSMISSION! Honda faced a class action suit for the tranny issues, and had to extend the drive train warranty. We can't be sure, but my guess is that the tranny went, just as mine did. Many Odysseys (2001-03) had two tranny's replaced within the warranty period. This car may have passed the miles. A new tranny is ~$3,000...about the value of the car itself depending on mileage.
@TheNixonYears you are saying he doesnt have brain. what do you have? you just assumed that the car was in bad condition . he at least was there looking at the car. and listen to this " my guess is that the tranny went" you are calling him no brain because you assumed something ? and this " this car may have passed the miles" how did you know that6? you just made shit up . did you look shit up ? because i LOOKED and the most expensive transmission showed up on my research was 2000
The dealer could have bought it in lieu of the cash for clunkers program. But dealers screw the public by making them believe that their trade is worthless.
They aren't still doing this whole cash for clunkers BS, are they??? I haven't looked, but I sincerely hope NOT! This has me soooo fired up! I hope someone got smart here and realized that is a PERFECTLY GOOD VAN!!! Thank you soooooooooo much for posting this video...I sincerely hope it gets more views and we can get the word out!
yeah, this is not what the "cash" for clunker program was made for... dealerships accepted ALL cars even if there were still under warranty!!! this program was not regulated properly nor financially repsonsibly. This program actually hurt the economy. The government will not tell us how many of these clunker sales were reposessed, thus fucking the economy even further
Go trade this Honda, that barely qualifies, with someone slightly above the poverty line that drives a dirty 12mpg '85 rustbucket Suburban. This just simply wasn't a very well thought out program. There should have been a layered system that creates a win-win situation for middle to low income brackets, that ultimately improves the longevity and quality of cars, not just MPG ratings.
Even clean, well taken care of Jaguars, Corvettes, and Mustangs were crushed.
I do own one now, but the transmission is going out or bad tranny switch are starting to go away, make sure you have check it out completely, take it to private transmission company to check it out, not in the dealer....the rpm goes up to 2000 but its not moving fast, so folks take it caution. My only have 113900 miles on it.
Makes me sad when I think of all the single moms, poor families, and families outgrowing their sedan that could have benefited from having this van. Way to go Obama....that's showing the struggling hard working families you care by making affordable used vehicles non existent. Don't let the door hit you on your way out in 2012 you socialist communist bastard.
Yeah, I would love to have that nice of a vehicle. The funny thing is, i can't afford it. Even funnier, I am going to pay for that van with my taxes. Im not f#@king laughing.

"Navigation" is no use if the tranny is shot..... a typical problem in these vans. @$4k to replace, it was probably financially more suiting for the owner to cash it in for $4500 than rebuild the transmission.
@GarrettKeetley Very true, but up here diesel isn't popular and diesel stations are far and few.
I think people need to get over the idea that diesels are slow and noisy. They have tons of torque and do give great gas mileage. Volkswagen is one of the best for diesels.
@GarrettKeetley Yes that's what I keep seeing here. Beautiful clean cars from the nineties going for junk !! MASERATI !!! OUCH!!!! I could understand if they were full of rust and neglect but a lot are still road worthy . Sad .
@GarrettKeetley The program is aimed at cars and trucks from 1984 and up that don't meet EPA standards. They give you a cash incentive for your clunker. Most of what I see here are good clean used cars.
Similar van Ex model with 187,000 Kms ( 116 ,000 miles ) is $6000 . NO rust. NO Accidents. This one would fetch an easy $6000 to $8000 up here. Total waste.
Hell, I'll give you my 01 in much worse shape for this car. Mines got 150+ and still runnin. This program was complete BS I'm glad I'm not one of the dealers who never got my rebate check...
DATA on the cash for clunkers show most people (from texas and other retardlican states) used the presidents program to seel perfectly good cars as these and buy guess what? No, not a green friendly prius but instead the latest gas guzzling pickup. No use trying to pin the actions of morons on the president. Wont work, no ones buying it. After all this is President Obama we are talking about, not Bushwhatshisname.
There was a long waiting list to buy the Odyssey back then. That vehicle looks better than most people drive today. A shame, but glad to see some imports were also victims of the stupid and shameful C4C program.
Obummer has done more damage in the time he has been in office than any other President. First this wasteful program, now the oil spill in the Gulf. The US may never completely recover from what he has already done.
@Greg9942 Obama had nothing to do with the oil spill. I can not believe I see people blaming him for it. Obama has done more than Bush did while in office for 2 terms.
You are surprised that he is being blamed for the oil spill? Bush was blamed for a hurricane, a natural disaster. The oil spill is a man-made event. If the President is responsible for a natural disaster, then he should take the blame for something caused by man.
You are right about the fact that Obama has done more than Bush. In a year and a half Obama has done damage to the environment and the economy that will take us years to recover from. Thank goodness he won't get re-elected!
@3619Country Yeah, he is getting blamed for an OIL SPILL which is BP's fault, not his. BP should have already have had alternative options in case the oil spill was to happen, and Obama is fixing what Bush had done to the nation, so why don't you just go hold Bush's hand, and walk down merry lane and make out with him? Obama is great, and he has my vote if he runs again!
WHAT ON GOD'S GREEN EARTH WERE THE OWNERS OF THIS VAN THINKING??? There isn't a damn thing wrong with this van. If they wanted a brand new vehicle, they could have sold this for more than $4500. I generally like Obama as a president but this is making me sick seeing perfectly fine vehicles like this going to waste.
@ibowle Why is Obama blamed for this? The clunker program was created to help people who were strapped for cash and to get out of cars that are gas guzzlers and not friendly for the environment. So what did Obama do again? If there is someone to blame I would blame the jackass who gave the car up or the dealer for clunking this car!
I believe this program is a "dumb idea". Their gov't is so cock sure of their economy, to suppose the little ppl can payoff new (HOPEFULLY HOME MADE AUTOS, not overseas) before other possible financial obligations get in their way of payment-in-full. Like storm damage, job loss, etc. In my country, we have similar program, but I think destruction of old ones is not mandatory here. I cannot afford new one. My 21 yr old Topaz is rusty, but 1 week ago PASSED e-test w/flying colours
I live in Australia and watching this is really pissing me off.....I cant beleave how many people got sucked in for doing this.....If my Goverment tells me to give up my V8 Ill tell them to go fuck themselfs........Stop this you are falling into a shit hole.
well its a bit better destroying foreign cars but still thats retarded a piss poor family wouldve loved this vehicle but know redneck assholes blow them up!
just very sad, I have a 2000 chevy venture, very good minivan and runs great, and this odyssey is just very clean and with navi system, would love to have this in my garage
no way sould that be a CFC i had a 97 odessy with 240xxx miles and still ran strong it always got really good gas milage so WOW idk the government is stupid or sumthing
the one who turned a beautiful car like this in was jsut lazy he could have sold it easily even for parts for 6000!
but you cant blame obama people or his administration its stupid people who are lazy that are doing this its just sad
the idea was a good one its just the requirements were too low to be eligible
i traded in my for windstar in this program and well we did it because it was basically dead we were spending to much keeping it running and wasting gas like crazy
It makes me sick...I am one of "those families"...I have children at home and need to retire my '96 Plymouth Voyager.Limited funds and part time work due to the recession. I have been looking at used Odysseys and 2001 's are going for $ 5000. to $ 7000. depending on features and condition!!
Can't see how it made it to the C4C's either...a whole segment of GOOD 2nd hand vehicles has been torn from the market and I know that the reasons were for stimulus ( needed as it was/is) but I can't help but think how bureaucrats are as much of the problem as the problem itself!!!
(defn; "Bureaucrat"...one who follows a routine in a mechanical, unimaginative way, insisting on proper forms and petty rules )
exacly this van gets 23 MPG or even a bit better, my cousin gets 26 MPG on the highway in her odyssey, I can't believe that they were stuped enogh to C4C it, they should try selling it first before C4C beside odyssey is the best minivan out there.
@sideslide23 yes they could of detailed it and sold it worth more than 4500 bucks my parents have an 07 touring rides smooth and has not given any problems
wow nice, is that a nice van or what? my Cousin Amy has a 05 model and the last time I've ridden it it, its like riding in a Limozine, in 2011, Toyota making their Sienna better than ever, on their limited verson it will have more backseat leg room with footress on the second row just like the Maybach.
@sideslide23 ours rides great bleack leather niv system lot and lots of room we also have a 1999 sienna with 127+miles on it i have videos on both chec em out
I have a silver 2004 Honda Odyssey EX with over 85,000 miles on it, still runs perfectly, best car ever. This is such a shame, though the transmission might have been bad on this one, that was problem with 1999-2003 Odyssey minivans.
i agree with most of the commentary made about CARS and ridiculousness of some peoples trade ins, but this van may very well have transmission issues that lead to it's clunker status. that said, the people who traded it in should have at least kept the navi, or taken all the salable parts out themselves to sell on ebay....then drive a doorless panel-less van to the dealer (since it only had to be running)
I have to agree... the stuff they do to the cars (mainly destroying the engine) is pretty stupid, and destroys a lot of usable engines that could easily be used BUT... these Odysseys often have bad transmissions - My parents have one, and the transmission is well on it's way out. That's not too bad if you know how to do the work yourself, but for the average family man/woman, it's a pricey thing to fix... making it probably just a better idea to trade it in.
None of you know what kind of shape that van is truly in. It may have transmission issues. It may have engine issues.
The dude that filmed this is dancing around the fact that this van falls within the MPGs that designates it a "clunker." Starman998...you're a complainer.
Your right we may not know what the actual reason this van was destroyed, but there are videos on here showing PERFECTLY running 1998 Jaguar XJ8's, 1998 Cadillac STS's, getting their engines killed. Why the fuck would they do that?
And even if the transmission was bad on the van, look at all the good parts. Why destroy it? Maybe there is somebody who could have used it.
@derbydriver i dont even think this fucking country, well the tax paying part, only like 50% now, most likely less, has realized the effect of this goverment and why we need an uprising, overthrow it, and build it up the old fashion way like we did once before. hell we wwere fine with slaveey and the old ways, once slavery left, so did the perfect country, went to shit from there! bars and stars all the way! fucking retards wont get off their asses, get rid of them!
If it has engine issues, they aren't too bad - a requirement with C4C was that the engine was running and the car was insured/in use. It may have had a bad transmission, but the engine would have needed to be running in order to get destroyed.
And this is in good enough condition to justify a transmission replacement.
The warm-and-fuzzy Obama doll liberal Democrats hold dear to their hearts is revealed here to be--like a teddy bear or the Tooth Fairy--a fiction. Perhaps it is their way of suspending disbelief so as to remain on the ego trip that got this radical Leftist elected president. Many of them imagine fine and noble sentiments running through His divine mind when he learns of the damage he caused. Irrelevant! All that matters is the damage he caused. Wake the hell up, you damned, childish fools!
i need a car. why not give me one rather than cursh crush crush... sounds like to me poeple traded nice cars off just to show off!! of course the american way is to brag and waste!
Actually, the liberal American way is to blame the American people first, before laying any blame on the politicians that created this incentive. The traders are making economic decisions that might have made perfect sense for their individual situations in these scary economic times. They don't deserve any blame at all.
The Liberal Democrat in Chief is pissed. You, the American people, living your lives freely, have failed to fall into statistical patterns that please His sensibilities. C4C is only the beginning of how he will now have to use the force of government to secure his pleasure. First on his list of priorities is how he FEELS about the results of your behavior. Second on the list is that he make his wife proud of her country, who is also displeased by your excess. Shape up, America!!
thats sad. that van is perfect. #1 selling van. i wonder what kind of car they got for that beutiful van. i got a 2000 oddy, i'm not crazy to let go. i love my van
That ain't the only Honda there, Acura Legend at 2:15. That pisses me off to no extent, the whole clunker program pisses me off, and yeah I'm an American citizen, and I can't afford a new car. Hell, a lot of the cars I can afford (including the aforementioned Legend) were just needlessly blown up.
Im glad this program is over. Sad thing is this would have made a good car for a poor family or someone who has no transportation, instead it's destroyed because of Obama and his stupid ideas. I have a p.o.s. 91 Sable thats been in my garage for a few years and it didnt even qualify. wtf?
It's great to hear an American sharing the view of the rest of the world that this... this sham of a program is gross wastefulness on a grand scale. If you want double the mileage, convert it to LPG instead. It's a fair bet that whatever replaces this perfectly good vehicle, will be supposed to get 25.1 mpg on average (or whatever the minimum is) but in real life, with the inevitable huge engine and far more power than it needs, still emit a great big stack of CO2. Madness, absolute madness.
72% of greenhouse gases are water vapor. Scientists can't factor precipitation into any computer model because of the massive complexity. Think: predicting how many puppies those fluffy, white clouds overhead will look like at 15:05:56 tomorrow, or if they're gonna look like giraffes instead. Without accounting for precipitation, Warming's not science but rather religion and fascist politics.
Want to see what a communist thinks about C4C? Check it out! Remember to remove the spaces youtube auto-inserts, especially the hidden one at the end of the link:
Relax, hoooooops! This is the right thing to do. Rich Democrats like Obama, Pelosi and Reid are sick of being embarrassed at cocktail parties with Europeans. They need to puff themselves up with this powerful display of solidarity with the less prosperous, socialist countries of the world. We're too prosperous for their delicate sensibilities and we need to be brought down a notch. Obviously, you're too stupid to understand this. ;-)
Starman, bless you for exposing the insanity behind this heinous government waste program! I, too, share in your anger and disdain for this unholy obamanation of valuable vehicles.
Im a student looking to buy a car for $1000 dallor can't find one no were all the real good car became cash for clunker. A good minivan I could really use to go to school.
masterlee123: Good luck! Did ya vote for CHANGE? Whether you did or not, this is what you're getting. Here's another thing: most people selling their old cars still like them. They don't want them wrecked. They want people to pay more for it so if the government ever resumes this program, it won't be worth trading in to the feds. So people who have $1000 cars don't want to sell them anymore. They'd rather keep them than have some kid like you clunk 'em in the future. I know that's how I feel.
With 20% of materials scrapped out of each car going into landfills, I don't feel bad about taking all the recyclable materials we sort at work and putting them in one dumpster. If they can crush and shred a vehicle like this and 'recycle' it - then they would be doing that with all solid waste disposal. That's like 20 cars of every 100 going right into a landfill.
Silver. Terrible color. Clunk it. I took the Navigation out of my clunker when I traded it in. There were no rules to stripping the car as long as you could drive it to the dealership.
There must be something major wrong with this van. If not, the customer got taken advantage of, as it would be worth more than $4500. Before you make judgement on this deal, you would need to know the facts. It could have a salvage title, or a transmission whose failure is imminent. These vans were notorious for transmission problems, and the extended warranty on the transmission is likely expired.
man, such a nice car. I love the Odyssey, like I love mine. and to think this perfect car, which could have gone on to be given to someone else for second-hand use, was destroyed under CARS.
I wonder if obama would want a ride in my not clunker car? its a toyota tercel with well over 200k burns oil ball joints and bushings are worn pulls to the left probably shouldnt be on the road in reality. alas due to the ever increasing high cost of living I will have to keep driving my not clunker to work every day to pay the taxes for all the asses who stole money from all us all to get there new car! its a sad times were living in right now Hopefully things will get better? HOPE all we have

@GarrettKeetley Yes that's what I keep seeing here. Beautiful clean cars from the nineties going for junk !! MASERATI !!! OUCH!!!! I could understand if they were full of rust and neglect but a lot are still road worthy . Sad .
Jim4575 1 year ago
@GarrettKeetley The program is aimed at cars and trucks from 1984 and up that don't meet EPA standards. They give you a cash incentive for your clunker. Most of what I see here are good clean used cars.

No, not a green friendly prius but instead the latest gas guzzling pickup. No use trying to pin the actions of morons on the president. Wont work, no ones buying it. My odyssey was a little over 30k EX model NO navigation. It was sorta expensive because the that model was new for 2001 no carry over.
Considering that particular one has navigation. You are probably looking at 32k.
The 2001 odyssey also had transmission problems so they extended the warranty mi. or w/e.
So 2002 they changed the transmission from a 4 spd auto to a 5 spd auto and a higher powered engine. They also threw in side curtain airbags.
I wanted the side airbags =\.

Obummer has done more damage in the time he has been in office than any other President. First this wasteful program, now the oil spill in the Gulf. The US may never completely recover from what he has already done.

@Greg9942 Obama had nothing to do with the oil spill. I can not believe I see people blaming him for it. Obama has done more than Bush did while in office for 2 terms.
uakronsam116 1 year ago

Obama is great, and he has my vote if he runs again!

ibowle 1 year ago
@ibowle Why is Obama blamed for this? The clunker program was created to help people who were strapped for cash and to get out of cars that are gas guzzlers and not friendly for the environment. So what did Obama do again? If there is someone to blame I would blame the jackass who gave the car up or the dealer for clunking this car!

Good Day guys,
I believe this program is a "dumb idea". My 21 yr old Topaz is rusty, but 1 week ago PASSED e-test w/flying colours

invsta 2 years ago 3
i agree with most of the commentary made about CARS and ridiculousness of some peoples trade ins, but this van may very well have transmission issues that lead to it's clunker status. that said, the people who traded it in should have at least kept the navi, or taken all the salable parts out themselves to sell on ebay....then drive a doorless panel-less van to the dealer (since it only had to be running)
RichmondParkway 2 years ago 2
I have to agree... the stuff they do to the cars (mainly destroying the engine) is pretty stupid, and destroys a lot of usable engines that could easily be used BUT... these Odysseys often have bad transmissions - My parents have one, and the transmission is well on it's way out. That's not too bad if you know how to do the work yourself, but for the average family man/woman, it's a pricey thing to fix... making it probably just a better idea to trade it in.
cherrybomb1493 2 years ago 2
None of you know what kind of shape that van is truly in. It may have transmission issues. It may have engine issues.
The dude that filmed this is dancing around the fact that this van falls within the MPGs that designates it a "clunker." Starman998...you're a complainer.
invsta 2 years ago
Your right we may not know what the actual reason this van was destroyed, but there are videos on here showing PERFECTLY running 1998 Jaguar XJ8's, 1998 Cadillac STS's, getting their engines killed. Why the fuck would they do that?
And even if the transmission was bad on the van, look at all the good parts. Why destroy it? Maybe there is somebody who could have used it.
AEproductions89 2 years ago 2
It would cost to much to revamp some of these cars. What would a good paint job cost? And that is just paint.
THE CARS ELIGIBLE FOR "CARS" ARE LESS EMISSIONS/FUEL EFFICIENT THAN THE CARS THESE PEOPLE ENDED UP BUYING.

No, it didn't boost the economy, it was a temporary band-aid that's already gotten all wet and dirty and fallen off in the shower.

derbydriver 2 years ago 14
@derbydriver i dont even think this fucking country, well the tax paying part, only like 50% now, most likely less, has realized the effect of this goverment and why we need an uprising, overthrow it, and build it up the old fashion way like we did once before. hell we wwere fine with slaveey and the old ways, once slavery left, so did the perfect country, went to shit from there! bars and stars all the way! fucking retards wont get off their asses, get rid of them!
miketheredneckable 1 year ago
If it has engine issues, they aren't too bad - a requirement with C4C was that the engine was running and the car was insured/in use. It may have had a bad transmission, but the engine would have needed to be running in order to get destroyed.
And this is in good enough condition to justify a transmission replacement.

The warm-and-fuzzy Obama doll liberal Democrats hold dear to their hearts is revealed here to be--like a teddy bear or the Tooth Fairy--a fiction. Perhaps it is their way of suspending disbelief so as to remain on the ego trip that got this radical Leftist elected president. Actually, the liberal American way is to blame the American people first, before laying any blame on the politicians that created this incentive.

Without accounting for precipitation, Warming's not science but rather religion and fascist politics.

masterlee123: Good luck! I know that's how I feel.
grexample 2 years ago
