  • Oh wow, what a voice. There is no end to this man's talent. I love his music. Sadly he has gone, may his music live forever!

  • First time for this one by a group I'm all too familiar with...nevertheless it's a love song a bueatifu love song and I just dig the way Johnny belts it out, love it!! Thx4 postin', I;'ll be back!

  • Sounds like Johnny came down with a "wonderful" case of Jackie Wilson. You're one in million P.J.. Thanks.

  • Thanks Mike

  • A Bill Medly with him on this would be interesting.

  • It would be hard to tell them apart at times

  • Johnny Maestro sang for Parkway Records in 64 but with a different Crests group so this is Maestro and he's hitting notes I never heard him hit before. GREAT song!

  • Yeah... this is something else Bobby

  • wow pj really love this one ... 5*

  • nice

  • RIP Johnny! I know the Angels Listened In when you sang. Thanks PJ. Its so hard to say goodbye to yesterday.

  • Dag, PJ. I know, I know you care about me, but you're gonna make people jealous. You can't have them thinkin' that you spend countless hours lookin' for GREAT diddies like this, to try and win me back. Honestly, PJ, it is a futile act. You've already got me in your back pocket. Trust, I'm not going anywhere. Well...on second thought, I will make tracks if you stop sending me tunes of this caliber. UNDERSTAND?

  • LOL I got you

  • RIP Johnny Maestro....

  • Amen

  • wow soul at its most soulful you feel each and every word johnny sings there is no style johnny cant sing and make it totally his own he is the man , june angel at the johnny maestro fans site at yahoo

  • Wow, this blew me away, he's got a little Jackie Wilson going there. Johnny can sing anything, he puts his heart and soul into every song. He is the Maestro!!!!!

  • This recording shows how easily Johnny could sing anything, in any style. He's labeled as a doo wop singer, but he's so much more than that. The Crests were doo wop, but The Brooklyn Bridge were definitely jazz/rock/soul. Bravo Maestro!

  • These were not the original Crests doing the backing vocals. By 1964, Johnny was doing solo work, with different singers often billed as The Crests.

  • You're right. I think the last record the Crests did was in '64, and that was obviously without Johnny. Whoever is doing the backup vocals on this is quite good

  • @PJDooWop In 1964, Roger Valdez, John Torri, Bob Hirshliefer & Lois Lee did some backup vocals for Johnny and were billed as The Crests. Perhaps they were the backing vocalists on this recording.

  • I know the label says Johnny Maestro and the Crests, but I have to say his voice is totally different from all his other records. I realize this is a style he never uses, but wow. I heard some Jackie Wilson in the middle. Great post.

  • This is a different style for Johnny, although he did sing with this style on a few of the tracks he did with The Brooklyn Bridge. About half the tracks on 'The Bridge In Blue" album were done in a heavy funk style with Johnny doing a soul lead

  • this is really good . . . almost tore my ear lobes off . . . didn't know he had all that in him?? love this song . . . and i love you PJ for caring about your youttube family . . youtube and YOU . . are the best thing we can have on the airwaves . . i hope neither of you go away . . (smile . . . because that's what i am doing right now.)

  • Speaking of airwaves, I'm hoping to find my way back onto the air one of these days. I did a radio show for 4 years and really miss it

  • you can only tell that it's all up in your blood . . you're the best PJ . . . i mean that with all your heart. You gave me DOO WOP heaven . . . what i would love to see some day (as well as the nice 50" s and 60"s cars) when a song is playing . . would be pictures of how la raza dressed and looked in the 40's 50's and 60's . . i am from west la, but east and west la, and east coast raza . . somewhere, there must be pictures of how we dressed.

the closest is LA BAMBA movie

  • Great, great post! Fantastic vocal and so soulful.

  • I agree 100%

  • Definitely different from any other Johnny Maestro record I've heard, quite the passionate performance. Thanks, this is a first time listen for me.

  • Excellent description Chris. It's not that he's more soulful than usual, he's got the passion going to.

  • Man, thanks for posting this, I knew he was good I didn't know how good.

  • Yeah.. this one's a real surprise

  • A monster record! Johnny poured more soul into this one song, than all of his records combined. Great post PJ...and a nice "promo", too!!!!!

  • Thank you

  • this a truly and amazing and passionate soulful vocal from johnny now we all see why johnny is one of the premier vocalists of this or any other generation why ohh why did he not do more fantastically searing vocals like this one his voice is pitch perfect as it always is june angel at the johnny maestro fans site t yahoo

  • I whole heartedly agree. I don't think I've ever heard Johnny miss a note on any of his records.. I also wish he would have done more records like this, but that's part of what makes this one special.

  • This is good, and is a real departure for Johnny. There are also some great but little-known tunes he and the group cut when they were still with Coed. Thanks very much for posting.

  • This is true. Johnny also did some very good "solo" material on Coed and Cameo.

  • Oh my gosh - this song gives me chills! Oh my........... 5 stars/favs! Johnny Maestro is absolutely unbelievable! Thanks for another fantastic song PJ! How is Tuxedo doing? :-))))

  • I know.. It's an impressive song all around. All is well, ty

  • Truly amazing! Johnny can sing anything and this proves it. His vocals on this are as good as it gets. Bravo Maestro!

  • I couldn't agree more. I heard some of Johnny's soul stuff he recorded with The Brooklyn Bridge, but it pales in comparison to this song. With the help of J.J. Jackson, a masterpiece was created.

  • Awsome tune!

  • Thank you
