  • @rstipper - Considering the year I ran the 2005 London Marathon, Paula Radcliffe finished in 2:17 which is curious since (a) she's "a girl" and (b) she can run, most likely, about twice as fast as YOU. So, what does that make you? Be careful with your "insults" because where some of us come from being called a "girl" is a compliment, indeed. How could it not be? Women and girls have SO MUCH going for them and what they can do. Your comment is repulsive all around. You're a kid.

  • Sorry but these instructions aren't very clear. You said you were gonna teach how to lengthen the stride without overstride, then you show and say "I lengthened my stride without overstriding". Then you explain that you have to lift the knee up more, but not overstride. And this mixed with some acceleration during your run. I think most people have no idea of what to do to replicate this after seeing this video.

    He just means push off with more force so you accelerate your leg and it carries farther, rather than reaching out wayyyy in front of you to artificially get that extra few inches of stride length.

  • @Bookstop1337 Hmm, ok but I don't really see how that is a technique. I mean to do that, for longer period of time, you would get extremely sore in the legs, unless you are extremely strong, in which case you probably already do utilize a longer and more vigorous stride. Also, for someone without this extra strength, more force also means you probably end up more bouncy (i.e., up and down more during the run) which isn't exactly efficient running. For shorter runs (sub 5K) this might work.

    Perhaps I explained it wrong. Instead of taking a normal jogging length stride, from 1 foot behind your body to one foot in front of your body, you just take a slightly longer stride overall, rather than reaching too far forward with your stride you add a few inches to the 'back' section and the 'forward' section of your stride. If you just 'dig' forward with your stride you would cause problems in your running.

  • It helps to increase stride length because you kick out farther; however, proper stretching is the foundation to any workout. :) I tried lifting my knees higher during my run, but I ended up landing awkwardly without good balance. Based on Katie Koski's recommendation, stretch first, warm up with 15-20 minute jog and then run stride workout (3-6 reps x 100m).

  • Think about this simple concept when you accelerate and the knee is "lifted higher" you actually have more clearance from the ground therefore you are able to generate more foce because you are working with this little thing called gravity which in turn increases your stride length naturally when increasing speed. The knee coming up higher is a byproduct of force production through the ground

    Your tips on stride length is interesting. I have been trying to incorporate some of your techniques, however, the higher knee length and extended stride length for 42km distance running tends to be rather taxing and it seems more efficient to shorten the stride for endurance efficiency and longevity. The point is of course is to maintain the km/h average speed for the 42km.

  • @enderthegreat you realize its an instructional video to help out beginners and its on youtube right? a lot of people want to run marathons or just get in better shape and get injured or lose motivation quick. this is just showing you tips on how to increase performance and increase results. you cant be that naive right? there are millions of instructional videos for beginners on every subject in the world taught by pros to beginners what is so shocking about this?

  • expert? he's not even a runner! look at his arms at + 0.25sec....don't listen to this cheerleader and don't over think. you'll get hurt. instead, do what feels natural. spend your energy on stride frequency (foot speed) and in using your arms to improve knee lift.

    It works! It will naturally make you run faster and increase stride length.

    I find that it also alleviates stress on your forefoot. Rather than push off harder, lift you legs higher just a tad.
