Hey Scotch...I don't think you fully understand my comment. If you look back a few pages on the comments I was replying to other peoples' comments. Pretty much all internationals these days have the ISX cummins like most others too actually. Yeah I know one day CAT and International may have a new engine out sharing their technologies. It's an international truck WITH (under the hood) a detroit engine. Breakin' it down barney-style for ya'.
Nah you dingbats! Why are you guys stuck thinking it's an international? The title even says it's a 60 series Detroit. By the way it looks to me like it's a Western Star
@TruckDriverz71 International dont make their own engines (although Navistar and CAT have a joint venture these days), and IH stands for International Harvester, THATS why people are referring to it as an inter, its an Inter with a 60 Series. As for what Inter it is, im gonna take a guess here and say S-Line, judging by the bonnet. Im probably wrong. And for the record the description even says its an International. You dingbat.
Detroit 60 series have loud ass jake brakes on them. Shit its louder then our NHC-250 cummins is, and it doesn't have a turbo on it. I know a guy who straight piped his 60 series and when he flipped the jake on, he thought it was a bad idea to staight pipe it. Even with a muffler on its still loud as a mother.
5410driver: Originally the Jacobs brake was only on a Jacobs engine - they invented it. I'm not quite certain why the sound is so much louder than the normal exhaust, is it the shorter time frame for air to escape? The volume of the compressed air coming out is less than normal exhaust so it can't be that. I understand some of these are a separate valve so could the air coming from those be routed separately and muffled in a different way to be quieter? Adabatically maybe?
The first engines to have a jake brake were Cummins if im not mistaken. The founder of Cummins engines devised the idea of the compression release brake and Jacobs was the first company to produce it. All it basically does is hold the exhaust valves open near the top of the compression stroke so no comopression can take place. The air is compspressed coming up to the moment that the exhaust valves open thats why you get the noise.
thats the same jake brake on my peterbilt see my brother owns a trucking company so i just took the old one of my peterbilt and put in a kenworth jake brake
Your4 so fucking clueless bleuturtle91 , Its not even remotley funny . A kenworthjake brake . You dumb fuckwad . a Jacobs engine Brake is a Jake brake , Theirs no Truck brands about it. Their designed for diffrent brands of engines . The truck manufacture has not one damn iota to do with it
I have a 92 pete 379 sounds just like that

Exactly right. Cummins devised the idea, Jacobs put it into practice, hence the name Jake brake.
