It is soooooooo sad that this mod died , along with the hidden source it was/is one the best hl2 mods out there i have ever played! It was so much fun playing this back in the days when it still had a playerbase and loads of servers. Valve should get the dev team and make a reworked version of this game, i would pay 60$ for this. Hell, this could be even played competitively .
I loved playing this a year ago and I have fond memories of it, too bad the servers died out over time and in a short period of time only two servers were full with players, that were giving me such a high ping that I couldn't play anymore T-T.
The biggest reason why a lot of players turned away from this incredible title, was probably because of the steep learning curve and learning that run and gun tactics don't work.
Simply, the game was scaring noob players before they got to know the game.

@AuralVirus Yeah, you would be surprised how much mainstream gaming -borrows- from independent games and mods. Half of the DLC for Oblivion were pretty much made by the community for chrissakes.
I played this mod 2 weeks after it had been released. Almost nobody was online and the community didn´t grow at all. It´s a shame since I really fell in love with this mod. It´s just so beautiful and sometimes I catch myself just staring at the buildings instead of watching my teammates back ^^. Also it reminds me of GITS which I like a lot... . Hopefully they´ll use the source engine fromt he orange box and it gets featured on steam so that the player base grows!

@lolcatize12 Most of the tracks are in a folder which you get when you download this mod. Only 2 tracks from the whole OST are missing. If you want the WHOLE OST you can buy it on cdbaby as I did. Costs aprox. 10€ as an mp3 download. It´s only available as mp3 download. A few months earlier you were able to get it on CD but this was limited... . I don´t have the CD either D; The OST is just incredible.

wow talk about about comparing apples to oranges. just say it: its a tactical shooter ok. cod4 is not lol. u might as well compare it to final fantasy or something.
I wish they'd make a nice singleplayer modus, where you can play as each character, who will represent a different class and slowly introduce the gameplay that way.
I playied this game a lot before gitting into the 8th grade at school and I'm getting inpatient on playing it again.
Tough it might take a wile to get used to it im telling u it will become verry popular among fps gamers and fans.
the only things that I would personaly like to see improved are the ironsights and some bugs but other then that i would rate it or vote it at any time or place as the mod of the year (2009/2010)

@stefansniper I didn't say it wasn't good best fun in a fps mod fix a few bugs create a diversity in multiplayer maps. If they really wanted they could this into one heck of an FPS. But that depends of time and money.
@stefansniper There's also the fact that some of the servers I've played on tend to teamstack pretty severely, too. This game is hard enough without having a whole team of ventrilo-enabled goons allied against you.
It's great how much love went into the mod, and I liked it (sometimes), but I think more game modes would really help give it a community boost.

All the trailers that i've seen look good, i think it would be best on source engine but the only bad thing is that theres not much people playing now so i cant play with anyone and also people living in australia will have to deal with being kicked ever 3 mins for a high ping..
This game is excelent. However, there are things I would improve on. I say once the bugs have been worked out and things are added, this game should be given its own engine and be sold as a seperate game rather than a mod.
dssg or ECO, those 2 servers tend to be full. you have to be on at the right time though, i'd guess that there are only 70 to 80 or so active players on this mod only 40 of which are ever playing at one time
Still, it's nice to have a break from COD where you can enjoy getting grenaded every 5 seconds. True it's really hard to get into but that could also be said for any of the other "greats" of FPS like counterstrike or Unreal. I suppose we can admit that, having come in on the ground floor, the learning curve was not so steep as it must be now. And if you don't like invisible opponents, use assault class.
Oh yeah. It's really reminiscent, but you have to admit that almost every modern multiplayer FPS rips off counterstrike in one way or another. NeoTokyo is a fantastic rendition of counterstrike's basic ruleset and let's face it, it needs some sort of overhaul.
Oh, hell yeah it did. I almost don't like that mechanic actually, it kinda forces you to use a particular weaponset because some guns are better than other guns. But, damn right it stole that from counterstrike.

Delta force was released a year before the mod counter strike.
Video games just continue to evolve over time, before that there were CTF and TDM games on doom and Duke Nukem. unless we go far back enough to like 2d side scrolling or top down stuff.
Yeah, It's a hl2 mod. You a source game that includes the source SDK to be able to play the game. If you don't have a source game, then you can't play it.

ok, here is some constructive criticism, so don't hate: so far you have a solid review of this game, all the important info is there and the structure of the review is professional, and the game play vids are great. the bad, the second reviewer (Carl)has to speak louder and with slightly more enthusiasm; in the beginning of the review, you had too many 'cut to black's', and one in the wrong place. try to switch up the music while talking about different aspects of the game, but don't over do it.
I totally agree, Carl needs to speak the hell up and annunciate. The cuts to black are actually Sony Vegas throwing up all over itself. We tried to get rid of them, eventually it boiled down to either fixing them or getting the damn video out at all. We chose the latter. But thanks for the comments there.

The DSSG server tends to be full when I play.
DWG as well. It's a fun game and I still play it but only on the DSSG NT Server.

dssg or ECO, those 2 servers tend to be full. you have to be on at the right time though, i'd guess that there are only 70 to 80 or so active players on this mod only 40 of which are ever playing at one time

Theres a reason why its overlooked. Its hard to get into, and even harder to master. Enjoy getting sniped by quick, invisible enemies.

Still, it's nice to have a break from COD where you can enjoy getting grenaded every 5 seconds. True it's really hard to get into but that could also be said for any of the other "greats" of FPS like counterstrike or Unreal. I suppose we can admit that, having come in on the ground floor, the learning curve was not so steep as it must be now. And if you don't like invisible opponents, use assault class.

Oh yeah. It's really reminiscent, but you have to admit that almost every modern multiplayer FPS rips off counterstrike in one way or another. NeoTokyo is a fantastic rendition of counterstrike's basic ruleset and let's face it, it needs some sort of overhaul.

Oh, hell yeah it did. I almost don't like that mechanic actually, it kinda forces you to use a particular weaponset because some guns are better than other guns. But, damn right it stole that from counterstrike.

When a room is full of people who know how to play their classes to their fullest extent,
They are all "Very" different from each other. approaching the game like counterstrike (like allot of people do)
will get you killed "Literally" in ways that would be hard to understand or justify for the first hundred times
it happens.

Delta force was released a year before the mod counter strike.
Video games just continue to evolve over time, before that there were CTF and TDM games on doom and Duke Nukem. unless we go far back enough to like 2d side scrolling or top down stuff.

I just mean I never relay consider something as "first" unless a game is particularly different,interesting and auspicious.
Then another comes along and directly rips it off. kind of like that game that came out recently that knocks Lumniess.
it could be said that delta force is just a rip of metal gear and mercs from the Nintendo/Sega.
I think really they all simulate human conflict, witch never goes away,and only changes slightly over time.
That's why they are so similar.

This mod is VERY teamwork based.
A matter of teamwork means life/death. If you play with people who solo, against teamworking squads, you are fucked.
The weponary system makes sure the team that sucks won't get the unlocks.
Not really ballanced, but I still love it! I am vry much of a GiTs fanboy, allright. But getting together with friends and teamworking works great!

Yeah, It's a hl2 mod. You a source game that includes the source SDK to be able to play the game. If you don't have a source game, then you can't play it.

I agree. This game is terrible. I would much rather play a great jem like "WWE: Smackdown" or "50 Cent: Blood on the Sand". This game lacks any creativity, originality, or thought whatsoever, and could really learn from the aforementioned two games.

ok, here is some constructive criticism, so don't hate: so far you have a solid review of this game, all the important info is there and the structure of the review is professional, and the game play vids are great. the bad, the second reviewer (Carl)has to speak louder and with slightly more enthusiasm; in the beginning of the review, you had too many 'cut to black's', and one in the wrong place. try to switch up the music while talking about different aspects of the game, but don't over do it.

I totally agree, Carl needs to speak the hell up and annunciate. The cuts to black are actually Sony Vegas throwing up all over itself. We tried to get rid of them, eventually it boiled down to either fixing them or getting the damn video out at all. We chose the latter. But thanks for the comments there.
