I moss my Rats, I had up to 50 at one time in my pre-teen years (early 1970's).

I have noticed that the coloration on their backs has some what changed, no longer do i see the longer blotches of color, but now a spot or two off center of what used to be "down the spine".

i would like to get a coupe for my kids some day when they are older and can appreciate them.

how much food does a rat need per day

We feed our pair each 1 block in the moring and 1 block in the evening where each rat block measures just over 1cm. Plus we feed them treats like a tiny bit of gourmet cheese, a pecan quarter, or maybe a grape.

DO NOT FEED CARBONATED BEVERAGE OR BEER or anything producing stomach gas since they are physiologically incapable of burping (seriously). Esophageal rupture is a catastrophic condition that is easily avoidable.

are you serious? 2 lab blocks a day isn't even close to enough food for a full grown rat! how much do your rats weigh?? they should have a bowl of rat blocks big enough that they eat it all, but over around 22 hrs, as a lean period each day is good for them. you should also feed some fresh food (veggies, cooked pasta/rice, the odd bit of fruit) each day, a portion about the size of a rats head for each rat.

feed them as much as they will eat in around 22 hours. may take a bit of trial and error but you will soon find out what that quanitity is; just start with a fairly big bowl and reduce it if they havent eaten it in 22 hrs.

i'm astonished they dont weigh less. even so, i would expect those weights for adult does, not adult bucks. i have 3 6mth old boys at 520g, 600g and 700g; they are each the right weight for their body length. please feed your rats more; on the food bag it should have an estimate of the weight recommended to feed per day. however rats will not overeat even if you give them unlimited food; they monitor their own nutritional needs. imagine how unpleasant it must be to feel hungry all the time!
