  • I was in Isabella last summer for 4wks. I was supposed to work with the tortoises but there were too many volunteers so I coached basketball in the highschool for an hour a day and snorkelled the rest of the time. The video transports me and your music inspires me. Thanks Deirdre

  • Thanks for your kind words, Deirdre. There's more music on my Myspace page. Just follow the link on my main YouTube page. I'd love to go somewhere like that. I bet you still had a good time snorkelling!

  • Hey John,

Checked out you Galapagos, I like the 'chill' out feel of the dolphin part, was quite relaxing, would have been good if you build up a build up when the bird prepares for flight and build up anticipation from the vieer's perspective.

    good attempt though,

    Regards

    Dean

  • I like this very much - especially the beginning. You have tied the music to the images in a way that many of the other entrants seemed unable to do.

I'm very glad I wasn't a judge on this comp. I have heard several versions on YouTube that impress me very much more than some of the winners - yours included. Imagine having to go through 1500! Arrgghh!

Your samples are much better than many others too: my entry was done on a very cheesy synth - and I'm afraid it shows.

  • Good one matey! I particularly like your use of 'movements' in the piece, which, unlike some of the other entries I've heard, makes for effective and coherent changes between the key scenes. Like me, you too have gone for a (synthesised) orchestral-based composition, e.g., nice cymbal waves @ 0:34. I was also astounded by the quality of the 'ethnic' percussion @ 0:38 which are very reminiscent of the superb HBO-BBC soundtrack for 'ROME.'

  • Cheers Andy

The percussion was a mixture of real percussion (me playing the bongos) and samples of a tabla. You liked Rome as well! I think that that is the best thing to come on the BBC for at least 10 years. I loved I Claudius too.

    John
