  • Why did the blu-ray release have to suck!!!???

  • does anyone have the commercials aired in 2006. It basically had an older man sitting in his living room talking about how he was going to show Star Wars to his kids and then cut to the clips of the original theatrical versions.

  • each time before watching the movie and switch to 2.0

  • And thats fine with me although i will apologize to my parents for basically getting me the same thing twice. In all honest i relate this to my thing for Jaws. I was waiting a long time to see Jaws on DVD with the original mono mix, not the 5.1 remix junk that i hate that was present on the Jaws 25th anniversary DVD. Thats why i was ecstatic to hear that the Jaws 30th anniversary was to have the original mix. The bummer is is that the 5.1 is the default mix and i have to go to the language menu

  • Yeah truthfully it does stink that many longtime fans had to dig money out of their pockets to basically buy the same dvds that they bought in 2004. Even worse is that the originals as bonus discs are not remastered for widescreen tvs but oh well. Im personally glad that they were finally released on DVD at all especially when they were trying to put it straight that the 1995 vhs trilogy was the last time the originals would be issued to video. I have the 2004 box set and these individual discs

  • Limited time only my ass.

  • 4 years

  • limited time? But It's been over 3 years.

  • My second fav trilogy behind Back To The Future.

  • "Discover the shocking truth about Darth Vader". (1:26)

And then they give it away...

  • The original cinematic versions are DRAMAS where as the CGI remastering turn them into ACTION movies. What george lucas did was to take a fine wine and pour vinegar into it as far as the fans of the original movies are concerned. Plus the original movies cannot compete with the remastered versions as they have not been cleaned up YET! But I am sure GREEDY Mr Lucas will do it when he knows there is a fast buck to be made! Original fans that made the selfish git rich may get their wish!

  • i saw this trailer on lego star wars 2 on my psp

  • From what I've heard, Lucas just wanted to release the same single disc 2004 versions on dvd yet again in 2006.

But others at LFL pointed to how much they were losing on ebay laserdisc sales and bootleg dvd's and how they might make more money if they included the originals. Lucas essentially responded "Fine, you can release the originals as long as you don't spend any money on them."

  • im tryin to collect every version possible on widescreen from vhs to dvd and maybe someday blue raynthat will be a great day 4 all star wars fans

  • Although this release dissapointed many at first, the more I look into George Lucas, the more shocked I am that these original versions got an official release AT ALL. I guess we should be thankful.

  • heres what they should do for a blu ray release

have the original unaltered versions, 97 versions ,and the even more altered versions

  • these need a better relase i want blue ray with digital copy of bot the special and original editions in animorphic wide screen

  • i think they are going to reralase them all on a blue ray maybe then thely fix the original versions of the movie

  • not form what i read. GL and lucas films claimed they dont plan on releasing to blue ray. i hope so too i spent alot on the DVDs im not ready to shift from DVD to blue ray just yet

  • Brings back the memories. Just terriffic thanks.

  • Same here.

  • both the special editions and the original cuts have thier pros and cons form quality to others.

  • I heard the video/audio quality on the SPECIAL EDITION versions is not as good as the 2004 DVD. Aren't they the same disk?

  • Yes.

  • Disc 1 in the set is identical the the DVD from 2004.

Disc 2 which contains the original version does not look or sound as good as the special edition on Disc 1.

  • In 2004 DVDs of The Empire Strikes Back and Return Of The Jedi, the lightsabers look even worse, at some spots they look like colored sticks. In the original versions they look like LightSabers.

In the first film they improved the quality of the lightsabers for most scenes. Luke's lightsaber looks green at one spot that is the only error I saw.

  • Well The Original Versions I think have Deeper Black Levels, A good example is in The Empire Strikes Back during The Lightsaber Duel between Luke and Vader on Bespin, The Special Edition's color is messed up and the blacks look really blue, The Original Version has a nice black level.

  • "And now, for the first time ever, the Star Wars films are available INDIVIDUALLY, to make them easier to own!" Honestly I've never heard of a more ridiculous excuse for another release. I bought these ones, actually, for the original theatrical versions, but these are kind of ignored by that trailer. "These also include the original theatrical editions, but anyway LOOK THE FILMS ARE AVAILABLE INDIVIDUALLY WOWEEEE!"

  • Same here.

I bought these DVDs the day they came out (Sept, 12, 2006), I spent $60 dollars on them, then in November 4th, 2008 they come out with a boxset of these edition for 30 dollars.

  • I certainly hope that the STAR WARS trilogy gets re-released to theaters soon.

  • @Riddler95 it will in 3d

  • @Riddler95

They are going to begin re-releasing the six films in 3D in theaters starting with The Phantom Crap-Mess in 2012, and then one a year after that. That means for those of us waiting for the real STAR WARS films we'll have to wait until 2015 to start seeing the real thing (well, as close as we can get after all of King George's changes).

I just hope that the Blu-Ray release includes the original cuts with remastered picture/sound quality, but nothing else added.

  • Hopefully Lucas will restore the theatrical versions in HD for the Blu-Ray, if he doesn't then I will consider not supporting the star wars movies anymore.

  • bought these myself. But it really really suuucks that the original trilogy is *beeeping* letter boxed!! Ah well. Great to see han shoot first again!

  • I don't know what George Lucas gets out of constantly re-releasing these movies over and over again.

  • umm... Money?

  • Jaba is Pimp.

  • I know what all you fans mean, about the original release, but I do 100% believe that not only should there be a 6 movie DVD set in the near future, but would possibly, which I say and believe, that both 97/04 and 77, 08 & 83 versions of the original trilogy will be released alongside the prequel but this time we should find the "originals" remastered in high-def & dolby 5.1 Surround. We can only hope. And believe, which I do. Until then I just KNOW that there IS still hope.

  • oh great yet again there is going to be another Star Wars Trilogy box set coming out in November, they are going to be 2-disc sets in a new box set, there are not any official specs out but is possible there maybe some new bonus features, If they include the original version remastered I'll be really pissed.

  • wow your annoying

  • Fucking hell you lot must be fucking blind and deaf! the laserdisc THX 1992 editions and what the cunting fuck does Lucas that fucking cunt think his cunting game is!? six-track Dolby stereo 70mm version of the soundtrack and that CUNT stiffed a lot of you! I took straight back and changed Star Wars episode 4 for Scrooged (Bill Murray) and that was 10 tens better than getting RIP OFF by what is now a greedy fucking CUNT!

  • I bought the box set in 2004 then in 2006 I bought the individual DVDs to get the original version. I really wish it was just the original version, cause I knew I had to buy the same disc twice.

  • no i ment what kinda of dvd case mine broke and i am trying to find a replacement but thank you for your help i appriecate it

  • I prefer this edition.

  • any ordinary DVD case will do. But Im glad i decided to give up on my box set and keep this edition. In this one you can see both the unaltered versions and the special editions

  • did you keep the 4th disc from your box set ?

  • no unfortunately, but i bought a bootleg cased set of all 3 movies (empire strikes back was the 1997 version) along with the bonus disc :D

You can see it in my "my dvds" video

  • dose anyone know what kinad 2 disc set they relase these in

  • what kind? They release it in one case containing the special edition as the first disc ans the un-altered at the back side of the case. Hope that helps

  • the unaltered versions also have better menues I hate the menues on the prequels & the special editions they take forever to load & give away so much of the movies.

  • the unalterd versions are way better

  • i liked the special edtions better but the colouring is all screwed up. in the un-altered version atleast the colours are fine

  • i don't hate the prequels all that much but i seriously think the originals by all means are superior to the prequels.

  • 1:27 gave away the big suprise.... ={

  • the prequels suck!!

  • I only love the original trilogy.. il treasure it for the rest of my life but i can't say the same for the new trilogy.. coz it has too much CGI

  • the dvd version is very bealtiful...like a new movie!quality!

  • I like Return of the Jedi the best

  • I'm holding off Star Wars DVDs until they enhance the original versions.

  • well no one says you gotta keep it.You can just sell your other copies.I think this 2-dsic set is the best one to keep.

  • Im trying to think why would anyone buy a trilogy in a series of six films?

Or 9 films if Lucas pulls his finger out of his ringpiece.

    Good Vid tho.
