First Rinnegan is superior to Sharingan - Jeraya said that himself in the manga and said alos "Whoever controls the power of Rinnegan can control the world". Second the Rinnegan allows Pein to control Life and Death, and even better to use ANY technique in existance (Nagato hadn't mastered completely the Rinnegan power). And third don't forget Nagato was Itachi's leader - that speaks for itself as to who is stronger.

First Rinnegan is superior to Sharingan - Jeraya said that himself in the manga and said alos "Whoever controls the power of Rinnegan can control the world". Second the Rinnegan allows Pein to control Life and Death, and even better to use ANY technique in existance (Nagato hadn't mastered completely the Rinnegan power). And third don't forget Nagato was Itachi's leader - that speaks for itself as to who is stronger.

Itachi's genjutsu requires to look the one he casts it on in the eyes, also don't forget that one person can pull another from that genjutsu with his chakra - Kekashi explained how. So if Itachi is facing more than one Pain he has to get ALL of them, which will be impossible and even if he gets one, the genjutsu will be dispelled immediately cause of how their vision works
