  • Amazing as always.

  • there are 13 unbelievably stupid people.

  • its crazy hes in his 40s in this video,he dosent look it

  • missed this video somehow. It's great.

  • to be the mattress...mmmmmmmmmmhhh!

  • to be the mattress...mmmmmmmmmmhhh!

  • Amazing! Forgot how much awesomeness oozes out of this song

  • Magic.

  • . ....un giorno guardandomi allo specchio avro' questa sensazione .....

  • worth remembering that - In the context of the story of the album - this song is sung by a serial killer - makes it as chilling as it is beautiful

  • @skipmendler Do you know that this man is now forgotten but will be forgotten when i decide we are are all forgotten and Bowie will be forgotten so can you stop about your Bowie killer. I am so glad I can be me now ..

  • So damn sexy in this video especially in that tank top. -DROOL- :D

  • I don't get tired of this video love it

  • He still is a compositor, real?

  • What a beautiful man!!!!

  • often overlooked - but i think this a great song by David Bowie

  • Favourite freaky alien!!!!

  • tis song has a lott of power and the voice of david as usually is so cool

  • DAVID. BOWIE.

  • vieze,heroinjunk,die,dit,geupload,heeft,he,knows,this,drug,dat,was,het,sleep,bay,answers,i,want,angelique,see,you

  • I donno why but this song sounds like reinvention of "Heroes" to me somehow. Anyone else feel so?

  • @KurtCobainof21

Now you said it, I can hear it too.

  • Great

  • OMG perfection, as always... dont know a better writer, singer, musician or actor.. guess im stuck on him.,. my dads fault and ill give it to my daughter too, as much as she resists she knows when Bowie sings, and she likes it haha, winner! Bowie won!

  • Its a great clip as usual from Bowie. If he wasn't a singer he could have been an incredible actor. As his acting ability to me, always comes out in each clip!~!

  • This video and song is breathtaking. I don't even know what to say...

  • What a gorgeous individual...I believe that their are none like him.

  • Bowie wasn't using complex instruments in this one. I swear this is a rhythm on my old casio, but it is beautiful

  • Those that dislike this need a new mouse :-)

  • @timothyhumphries You are certainly entitled to your opinion. But the certainty with which you pronounce Bowie "dead" is really inimical to any serious appreciation or consideration of the merits of his or any other artist's creative endeavors.

  • Voliiiiiiiiim Celavka. PLAKALA SAM NA PESMU OVU!!

Ko ne voli Bouvija popusi mi karu.

  • Shame Bowie didn't release the other four albums he had planned to go along with 1. Outside. He said it's all recorded, so maybe someday...

  • I'm bewildered for we're strangers when we meet...

  • A close relative to "Heroes" musically sure, but so musically gorgeous it doesn't matter.

  • this is so underrated! what a shame, it's such a beautiful song!

  • Wow David Bowie is still SO ORIGINAL and not trying to sound like everyone else, like most musicians do,nowadays. He is purely BOWIE.

  • Very beautiful. Duh,it's Bowie!

  • So sweet. <3

  • my favrite artist

  • this song is genius! Outside rules, its fab, really fab!

  • You can't truly understand how amazing this song is unless you've experienced what the song is about.

  • @bulbinking whats it about ?

  • yes it is.. Bowie is one of a kind... i wish he'd make another record.. OUTISDE 2 or anything really.. he is just fucking brilliant....

  • His face at 2.22 reminds me of Aladdin Sane. It is amazing how he has kept everyone so intrigued over the span of 40+ years. He is truly an Icon and an amazing artist. There will never be another one like him.

  • CrubbDaTubb do you really think David has ever done anything for a quick buck? just how stupid are you?

  • haha - @botbagel. "Vincent Van Goth"

  • Exellente chanson, une de ses meilleures (je la préfère à l'autre existante)

Pour le fun voici ma mini playlist : absolute bigginers, be my wife, strangers when we meet, life on mars, wild is the wind, word on the wing, ahes to ashes, velvet goldmine

  • this is one of my top 5 favourite David Bowie songs...

    and i didn't even know it had a video... AWESOME!! : )

  • The actual truth is that we were strangers just before we met but as this did not rhyme it was rejected. It is a shame that he thinks he can just disregard the facts for a quick buck. why not tell the truth of life rather than lie? This is wierd and cross-eyed music

  • What a Fantastic tribute to humanity's lack of limits, this really does show that we can produce Beauty in all its power. This song can be adapted to so may emotions and memories.

Bowie has this way of creating a powerful atmosphere and proves oh so well with this song.

  • @STIXtwentythree great put ;)

  • first song of bowie that i saw in tv

young me not knowing anything about.. anything yet fall in love with his voice

ehh where is tv that can change peoples minds...

  • A masterpiece among many others! But it´s one of my favorites! I remember attending the concert in Rio in 97 (Earthling Tour) and crying a lot when he sang this song! *_* He looked at me and ascened with his head like no, no don´t cry please.. Oh, my.. I´m almost doing it now.. Sublime.. I was 16!

  • This is magic for me... Gorgeous and deep video, powerful lyrics and beautiful piano line!!! Thanx, Bowie! Never let us. We need this kind of music nowadays! Thanx for sharing this gem, chocolate! Best wishes from Brazil! :)

  • terrific sad beauty with INCREDIBLE Style. It Oozes so much. Nice to Gail was in it too. he really makes gems that were not appreciated at the time but will not only stand the test time-but will be bench marks of what High Art is.

  • @StBowieno EXTREMELY WELL PUT! In the not too distant future, I believe his art will be valuable in the same vein as Vincent Van Goth and Mozart...Just incredibly unique!!

  • @StBowieno ... Sad Beuty, that describes this song perfectly as does Execssion33's description of inspiring deep nostalgic melancholy for the people lost.

  • a gorgeous song from an album blistering with creativity

  • There are great facial expressions in this video; they don't look fake or silly.

  • This song always inspires a deep nostalgic melancholy in me for the people I've lost, but it also gives me a feeling of optimism. Incredible song.

  • Yesterday I saw my ex of 12 years (who I hadn't seen in five) - this was the song that was playing through my head during our encounter. As always, DB provides a soundtrack to my life

  • What a beautiful song!!!! what a beautiful man!!! I'm in love with David Bowie ; ) XD

  • He said to me "How can you like this CD? It's all about the murder of a girl the age of your granddaughter?"

I don't know what I replied. But I love this song and Outside even though I feel vaguely threatened by the concept.

Anyway, it's better than the heavy metal rubbish that He likes.

  • I never really appreciated this song until now. It's quite beautiful (along with the video) and very underrated compared to the rest of Bowie's repertoire.

  • he's sucha beautiful human being

  • What album is this off of?

  • @Surirygirl This version is off the album Outside. But he originally had it on an album called Buddha Of Suburbia. I personally like the Buddha version better.

  • This is my favorite song..period, by any artist. I only wish it were longer. It utterly reduces me to something purer.....a perfect ending to 1. OUTSIDE

  • @nickgpeterson Totally agree with you.

  • This song makes me feel like crying. I love the story David creates through the music video.

  • One of those songs that is incomprehensible, comparable to disputing the existence of God. The beauty is all in the uncertainty, as life itself.

  • one of the best clips ever!

  • Another brilliant piece of musical beauty from Bowie!

  • The combination of the passionate song and the sexy video take some beating for my money.

  • My only critique of this song is that it slightly sounds like my Casio WK-1500 on the rhythm section......

Still it is great for the melody and words!

  • dude he is adorable in that sweater eep *fangirl scream*

  • @moviemaniac96 I "missed" this entire Bowie (mid-)period as only followed hardcore bands ... lost children of Lady Stardust and Aladdin Sane ... during the 80s/90s. Enjoying catching up now. He's beauteous here ...

  • @averilleX totally understand that same here

  • love the song

  • This is actually one of Bowie's best, post-1980. 1. Outside was the album that got me hooked on Bowie!

  • some of the best 4 minutes 31 seconds of my life... Y_Y BOWIE <3

  • love it, cuz you can actually for once see him playing the piano! and of course love the song

  • I have heard quite a lot of wonderful David Bowie songs, but this one really rocks my boat

  • The visuals from the movie from which he lifted the title (and the doings of the lyrics actually) are better than this embarrassing artsy meaningless carny/mime show above. Rare lapse of taste. Should have stuck with the real film.

  • What a nice song :)

  • Classic!

  • Another Bowie wonder <33 =)

  • wonder of wonders! Cannot stop listening to this song!!!

  • @JohnnyOrcface

Every idea feeds off the ideas that came before. That's not hackery; that's progress.

1000 points if you can name what "Closer" ripped off.

    Tool's video for "Sober"

10,000 points if you can guess where Tool ripped those ideas from.

    hint: google "Quay brothers"

    :)

  • Another beautiful song from the greatest singer, songwriter of all time, truly a one of a kind genius.

  • amazing song defo the best track on his Outside album, classic!

  • If they ever make a movie (animated or live action) of the RETURN TO LABYRINTH comic book series, I hope this song is included in the soundtrack.

  • sam bayer is a big fan of making the camera close up to a little hole and open to something different...hearts filthy lesson, this song, the my chemical romance thing,

  • one of my favorite bowiesongs, great song

  • buena cancion

  • I think this is David Bowie at his best and if Morrisey thinks that David Bowie has not been relevant since '73 Morrissey must be on drugs.

  • @VanityKillsABC

Morrissey said what?!? That man wouldn't know class or talent if they broke into his house and whacked him over the head.

  • Yeah there's a clip on Youtube with the very interview where Morrissey says the foolish remark. It's a war between Morrissey and Bowie fans on the clip...funny stuff to read.

  • @VanityKillsABC Morrissey is plainly bitter and twisted

  • @VanityKillsABC I only wish I could have some too...db is unbelievable. Almost spooky the talent, style and gifts from above, what a beautiful musican, artist, actor composer, writer and the list goes on and on. One would think the deal was signed in blood with the devil. What a brilliant version of Motzart,Beethoven etc...He will be one man that will go down in everlasting history.

Brilliant beond words. Oh yeah, he is beautiful and the slim white Duke!

    Cheers,

    A Young American.

  • @VanityKillsABC

Considering Morissey can't touch Bowie, he should leave his opinions to himself.

  • I love how all of Bowie's albums sound completely different from each other but this song in particular sounds as though it could easily fit in on ANY of his albums.

  • I close my eyes and this song takes me to a better place..................

    Bowie is genius

  • I love the song, but this song is made from a casio keyboard with an amazing song

  • Happy Birthday David!!!!

    I wish you many more!!!!

    <3<3<3

  • amazing song, wonderful piano, beautiful lyrics, artistic video !! - thanks for posting !!

  • Man, this video is very creative. I freaking love this song, this video, and this man <333

  • Love you, David. Please give us another album.

  • this song gives me the chills, especially the end. he has such a rich, beautiful voice

  • love the jumper...love the song......

  • I think I'll never learn how to sing that song, such a poetical complexity!

    Loooooove it !

  • The Man is beyond Brilliant!

  • sorry I know now the video that I wanted it was Hearts Filthy Lesson. That's the video I thought was weird, that I wanted to watch.

  • this was the video/song I was looking for.

I type weird video on internet search engines for david bowie, but the agian all his videos are weird!

  • The Outside album is a pure masterpiece.

  • I remember reading an interpretation of this song in which Bowie is singing about someone with a terminal illness, such as alzheimers or aids. He's angry at first, then scared of being with her, and finally is glad he can still be with her, while shes still alive.

  • There goes death out the window and the baby following the bath water. Here were slough off our porcelain veneers that have served us in the decreasing day's span that ninnies call Tuesday.

  • it's beautiful, great song

  • The music and video are so entertaining and beautiful. Bowie has always been a bit strange but it adds to his originality.

  • this song is to be valued by hearing the entire Outside album. I always felt it a waste that Bowie didn't continue this project

  • I agree. But then again, with the exception of Ziggy and Aladdin Sane, when has bowie really ever continued anything from one album to the next?

  • tin machine II

  • Bowie is very lucky in that his talent and creativity haven't let him down. I find Heathen and Reality both extremely interesting and entertaining. That combination is completely missing in popular music nowadays (IMO)

  • Comment removed

  • @ThePrismer So true.Point well taken. It's more than being lucky isn't it? As you said, he obviously cares. And cares enough to work very hard at it, as you point out. He seems to have a very big heart also. I find so much sympathy with the human condition in his songs.

  • @oracleofaltoona

hilarious. the lps you mention are good, but by bowie standards they are weaker than a friggin' new order re-release. this song is fantastic, but not representative of bowie's efforts during this time. heathen is essentially the poor man's answer to the berlin trilogy. the sad part is that the berlin trilogy wasn't that great. anything coincidentally pre-emptive is sorta 'creative' by artistic standards. heathen is a solid lp, but don't pretend bowie didn't die earlier.

  • Altought in every moment Bowie has preserved the peculiarities of his songwriting the "let's dance/never let me down" is the lowest point of bowie's career even if there are songs like "Loving the alien" or "Modern love" that kicks hard, though that the Berlin period has been the most interesting, but this changes from fan to fan

  • Ive been a fan since I was little listening in the back seat of the car. My parents like him and now so do I. He has such a great voice and his lyrics are some of the best. I for one like more of his earlier work but some of the new stuff is hit and miss. This is one of the hits for me. I really liked it and the hearts filthy lesson but not much else off the album.

    Just my opinion.

  • I'm a fan since Pinups (1974), and reading comments from people who started loving Bowie's works since Outside is the most gratifying thing I could hope as an old Bowie fan, it proves that the man has overcome every change of times in 40 years of career, I guess there's not much of other artists that comes out now that could hope the same.

  • i agree. Im a new fan compared to yourself, a fan since Heathen. Really like his modern work.

  • I been a fan since as the world falls down since the movie was maybe before that but was a young fan but ilove all of his work hes one of my Musical heros hes Amazing

  • I can't imagine being a fan for so long! what I often wonder when I stumble across older fans: was it difficult for you keeping up, where these moments hard to follow?:

    -young americans

    -the berlin period

-lets dance, tonight and never let me down

    -tin machine

  • One of his finest songs without a doubt.

  • i love the piano play 2:18 to 2:28

  • great track off my favourite bowie album, the fantastic Outside! Well overlooked piece of work, but a masterpiece to rank up there with the likes of Low, Lodger, Ziggy etc....

  • outside is bowies best album of the latter years

  • love this song and this video!

  • how did he book courtney love for this video?

seriously though, bowie's best song since lets dance

  • He is Bowie. He could probably book Obama for a music video.

  • I WISH I WAS THAT SWEATER

  • LMAO!

  • David and Iman are absolute perfection.

  • Very good song after a bad breakup from 10yrs past and the person whom you broke up with comes back looking for you as mentioned at the opening scene from the movie Swingers

  • again, bowie's creativity is very well displayed!!! you rock david!!! luv you!

  • Ahhh, Yes, the direct ripping off of his own "Heroes" and the farty fog mists....

  • Quite a bit like the 'smells like teen spirit' vid, me thinks...same director.

  • One of Bowie's best lesser known songs, great video too.

Bowie returned right bang on form during the mid 90's, some great stuff.

  • Is it just me, or is this version totally different from the album?

  • There is about two minutes cut from it. It's really weird to listen to the album version and then watch the music video. There are several extended verses in the album version.

It's the same with quite a few Bowie songs.

  • Oh yeah it's possible you also heard the 1993 recording of the song for his Buddha of Suburbia album which is very different and inferior in my opinion although I suppose when you're used to a song any difference sounds wrong.

Like when I heard the Under Pressure remix on Queens Greatest Hits 3 for the first time. Ay.

  • this is the other version from The Buddah of Suburbea album

  • Outside is my favorite Bowie album, and the videos from it are all perfect. Throughout Outside, the kinship between Bowie and Reznor is made very clear, and the videos have the feel of Closer. This one I especially I love, because of the tenderness amidst the absurdism.

  • Literally I can translate perfectly the phrase "strangers when we meet" but I think I am missing something in the translation. what exactly means? means that next time we see each other we wil ignore each other?

  • it means "after a bad break-up with a woman and then 10 or more yrs go by she returns to look you up to see if the love is still there" BIATCH!!!!!just like the other song "Someday ,we'll be together" LOL

  • Thanks, gracias for the "translation"

  • Comment removed

  • i am in love with this man!!!!

  • absolutely lovely

  • Outside is my favorite Bowie album. So solid. A great concept work. This song and Thru' these architects eyes are 2 of my favorites off it. Wonder why the line: My poor soul all bruised passivity...got cut out?

  • One of the most beautiful songs ever written

  • Agree. This song cuts me very deep.
