this is what i call acting.. this is a brilliant actor.. not shit like "dont mess with zohan" or "meet the fockers" ben stiller, adam sandler and Douglas Steven Heffernan are idiots without talent.
@padfootpatronus thanks for your explain, but i think this movie is to hard and it was make me sleepy, maybe this movie is good, and bardem have oscar for this movies but i can't watch the hard movies
i don't know why Academy Awards Jury always choose the hardest movies than superhero movies ? hope there is superhero movies will be oscar nominated
why am i so bloody relieved that he left the gas station owner unharmed? well, anthony hopkins won the oscar for those 16 scary minutes of silence of the lambs... bardem won for any one of these scenes that become bloody brilliant as soon as he walks on in. be it the first half of this part or that guy he had pulled over the side of the road. i'll have nightmares today, for sure.
@Tiomahmudin this part is uploaded by zooom28. the other parts you were watching with the subtitles were uploaded by lector0003. also the note on part two that said 'part three is blocked' was made by lector0003. his/her part three upload is blocked but fortunately not the part three uploaded by zooom28.
at first i did not get the clerk scene because i was stunned at the acting (internally- not of javiers but how anton was portaryed) and i missed the point but now i understand. it is symbolic
"So this is 1958 + 22? Why set it in 1980?" . . . the rise in violence in Texas territory running of drugs in the early 80's is a real time of never before seen violence,,, old men haven't seen this. Old sheriffs never saw hired killers with such disregard for life. 'Out matched', Ed Tom relinquishes at the end of the film. , hope that helps.
The guy at the convience store has no idea how close he came to dying. He probably told the story for a week or so and then spent his lucky quarter on a soda.
@rfd73 Of all the qualities and characteristics this bad guy portrays you decide to post something about his haircut... I think it's time you had a coin flip moment of your own.
But he is a psychopath because with he believes he is an agent of fate, just because he has a philosophy that doesnt change the obvious power trip he gets from doing what he thinks is fates dirty work
Maybe the best actor in this great film is the gasStation owner- he listens to Jav's lines, responds as anyone would as if it's the 1st time he's heard it and seen him -he shows genuine confusion mixed with a bit of dread. That's acting at it's best.
The gas station by far is the most nonsensical thing I've ever watched. It all started because he saw he was from Dallas and was asking about the weather out there. I mean... really? That's what makes you go "intellectual" and "ironic" and flipping a coin on whether or not you'll kill him?
I've been waiting to see this scene and am left with utter disappointment.
@daftrok He's addicted to murdering. Just shows that he'll use any petty reason to kill, even though he knows he wants to do it for the shits and giggles. He also has a merciful side, which boils down to having a 50-50 chance of surviving. Just shows how crazy this guy really is.
Anton wasn't addicted to murdering, and I doubt he was capable of mercy.
Anton's philosophy was the coin toss. Anton "got here the same way the coin did". His victim's fates are met by a mix of chance, fate, destiny, luck, randomness. By personal choice (choosing which side the coin will land on.) He is no more bloodthirsty than the random events that happen in the world, and no more merciful.
@afterapplepicking To dismiss him as a psychopath is ridiculous? I went out of my way just to look up the definition of "psychopath" and a recurring definition was someone with "anti-social tendencies." Determining whether someone gets to live or die by a coin flip is pretty anti-social. Murder is murder no matter how you dress it. He still has free will to control his actions, but I guess we're comparing humans to tsunamis now. Humans=Free will. Nature=delicate balance of chaos and order.
@daftrok You are missing the fact that Anton is a bad guy and doesn't want to be seen or heard. People who pay attention to him end up dead. If the clerk can ID him to the police(direction heading, license plate, looks etc) then that's an inconvenience to Anton who now has to not find a new vehicle. Now, do you see why Anton got into his business when the clerk started "noticing" him?
@Johnnyblazedanketch NO! I DON'T! And I'm pretty sure its because of this odd questioning that the clerk became very suspicious of him and would more than likely sing like a canary to the police. It makes no sense when its painfully obvious the clerk meant nothing by it and he could have just left him alone. But instead, he made himself very memorable and much easier to identify and the clerk would have extra incentive to mention it to an officer should one come by. So no, I don't get it.
@daftrok That gas station gets 1 visitor a day, just look at it! YOU DO GET IT, YOU ARE JUST PLAYING DUMB TO TROLL A RESPONSE FROM ME! THE CLERK TOOK NOTICE OF ANTON'S LICENSE PLATE AT THE START! YOU NEED TO WATCH THE MOVIE IN IT'S ENTIRETY BEFORE POSTING ABOUT A SCENE. MAYBE! JUST MAYBE! you will finally get it...
@Johnnyblazedanketch Okay. I have watched the scene three times. Here's what I have assessed:
1) The clerk asks Anton about weather in Dallas cuz he saw his car from there. Why did he look at the car? Because he's bored at the store and is obviously just making polite conversation.
2) Instead of paying and leaving, Anton gets up in his face, scaring the crap out of the clerk, flips a coin and leaves. The clerk will likely tell the cops about this encounter if asked.
@daftrok I know you don't get it. You need to watch the movie in it's entirety. You don't understand the nature of Anton... yet. I'll no longer bother you about it either since you keep responding having ONLY watched this scene.
@Johnnyblazedanketch I've actually watch the movie entirely. You don't pretend you don't have a choice and flip a coin like Two-Face and then go on a rampage like the Joker. That's two completely different and conflicting psyches that can't just be smashed together to create a character. Especially one that shows little to no emotion. Its like he doesn't even care about the money. And no, he isn't death reincarnate. He's trying to be deep when he clearly isn't. It was a poorly written character.
If that motherfucker were 2 talk in2 a store like that where I worked at nd asked me all kinds of questions like that I'd automatically think he's fuckn SATAN!!!!SERIOUSLY!
In the novel they just say his ethnicity is hard to place, because he seems to have a little bit of everything in him. This is one of the reasons they picked Javier Bardem to portray him in the movie.
I always thought Chigurh is of Cajun origin, maybe part Indian, part whatever.
It's interesting to know that he has a name after all, and is not some un-named mystery hitman.
He should of kept the cash and the guns he stole, and stayed the fuck home with his hot wife, instead of being nice and going back to give that Mexican some water!!!
@romanblood the same reason y he kills Woody Harrelson's character and the man who hired him later. He didn't like that the man hired so many people to find the money. Anton believed that you shouldn't you so many tools. Just the right one.
Serial killers usually kill a particular kind of people, be it hookers, homosexuals, some ethnic group or old people. They kill to satisfy a need, which they sometimes feel cursed by, but cannot resist. Serial killers bury their victims, and try not to leave a trace of what they did.
Chigurh is a psychotic hitman with some really strange principles, which sets him aside from other psychos who don't bother with that.

Chigurh is no serial killer. Far from it.
Reason? Who knows.
