  • An excellent use of this product, as it can really use this setup, it even has small

phantom power available to low-voltage condenser mics. It is a real pity that this

facility is not available any longer in the new Micro BR-80, while having simple

stereo built-in electrets, cannot use this setup as there is only a simple line input.

  • excellent video. Thank you!

  • I got a new, Sony ECM DS70P Stereo Mic for 99p +p+p from Hong Kong, off Ebay, 2 years ago and its fine. I have now decided to buy another so that I can record from two sources, the price is now £3.50 but it comes postage paid. Cheap little rig!

  • easy solution - buy the stereo mic that is designed for this model.

  • Genius!

What you can also do is buy a cable for the mic with a normal jack end like the one on a guitar(That's the kind of cable I have)and then you save money on two parts that go in your tutorial.

  • can u show us a demo on how to record micro br using a mixer?thanks it's really helpful..

  • can u show us a demo on how to record micro br using a mixer?

  • Why not buy the stereo mics that Boss sells.

    Roland BA-CS10 STEREO MICROPHONE

  • I own this machine, there are much easier ways to get good recordings.... keeping in mind that overall it is a four track. Also, unless you have a specific effect in mind that requires stereo (tremelo, chorus etc) you are okay with Mono recordings.

  • Well done

  • thanks but all i want is to be able to plug in my guitar

record it on the left side of the headphones

then recor with the same gutar as an overdub

the right side of the headphones

    PLEASE HELP ME!!!!!!!!!

  • @thrashtastical Thats easy. record both tracks in MONO then push one guitar left and one right. I own this machine, it is way easier to use than this video shows.

  • Great video! Any idea where you can buy a cheap impedance matching transformer online?

  • im thinking of buying a seperate mic for recording vocals, im not having much luck with the in-built mic. I cant get a good setting, all my vocals sound tinny. Am I alone in this? Can anyone reccomend a good preset for vocals?

  • Many thanks Doc. How should we call you ? Mc Gyver?

    Stéphane

  • How can I format the SD Card to use it with the recorder ?

  • I would like to use this recorder with a keyboard - most videos/product info used guitar input. Is it OK to use this with a keyboard?

  • I am trying to record DJ Mixes through my Pioneer DJM500 mixer into the BR.

I purchased a stereo mini jack to mono jacks lead and plugged the mini jack into the line in and the mono jacks into the Master Out 3 ports on the back of the mixer (Master out one has phono inputs and goes to my amplifier and Master Out 2 is for XLR inputs and isn't being used) For some reason, when I try to record into the Micro BR and then play back there is nothing there. I've checked the obvious line input level.

  • @adamtgreen do you have any sound coming thru your monitors/headphones one the connections are made?

  • you are great.. and did a great job for us too...thanks

  • If you want to use a stereo condenser mic with the micro BR, You should get a battery powered mic. The BR will not power a condenser mic on its own.

  • except for mic placement issues. I'd rather have 2 separate xlr mics in 2 locations or at least the option.

  • I have a Sony ECM-DS70p stereo micrphone and I tried it on the Micro BR. After installing the microphone and the presets on "Input - EXT" I can't make a recording. I don't hear anything. I did the same with this microphone on my minidisk recorder and it functioned well. Can you tell me what's the problem with this mic on the Boss micro BR ??

  • Yeah - the mini disc powers the electret condenser of the Sony mic, the Micro Br doesnt :o(

  • Do you have any recordings of you using this setup?

  • The Sony stereo mic shown at 1:09 is a Sony ECM-DS70p Electret Stereo Microphone and costs <$20.00. Why not just buy one of those and the problem of stereo recording is cheaply solved. Sony even as a 1/4" plug adapter for the ESM-DS70p that costs ~ $5.00. Anyone out there know if this Sony ECM-DS70p Electret Stereo Microphone plus adapter would work with the Boss Micro BR?

  • Very cool Norm! Did the standard mics record ok without a preamp?

  • thanks I enjoyed the demo

    daniel

  • Hey Norm...very nice work.

I am looking to use this little unit to use for interviewing with a two mic set up.

Is there a way to record with 2 mics at the same time?

    thanks!

  • A well research idea. I use a little sony condenser mic and power it from the BR as it has an option to do that. Works amazing and only cost me about $6 for the mic.

  • Record with the built in mic first.

Then pan it left or right afterwards!

The BR can do that you know!

  • And you could probably have 2 tracks with copies of the same recording, and set reverb or some other effect with different setting, and achieve some nice results :D

  • Vey usefull info.

theres an advantage to buying a sm mxr less than 50.00. MIxers would match imped,& add phantom pwr with a variety of ip/op cofigs into the BRMicro ie: 1/4", TRS,RCA so on). allowing the use of Eq & FXpedals before and premix There are PZM microphones($50)at(Tandy/R shack. Cct city) w/ 1/4" inp jacks bat pwr(can be converted for ph pwr). These mics are the creme' of "off the floor" recording, usefull for spot/fill applications, drums and acoustic instruments.

  • Thanks now i can record my drums with this

  • Extremely useful. Thanks very much, man! You have no idea of how much you helped me, I was desperate trying to find a solution for this problem. This is the kind of attitude that makes me keep my faith in mankind, hahaha.

    Cheers man!

  • Yes. The 1/8" stereo input can be set for either mic or line level. Most stereo keyboards either have 2 mono 1/4" outputs or one stereo 144". but if you have the right adapters, you can get from A to B

  • change topic slightly - would i be able to plug a stereo keyboard into the convertor cable and into the stereo line input

  • this or m-audio recorder?

  • can i plug a 3.5 mm to two stereo male cable into the phones jack and connect the 2 males into 2 seperate amps for stereo?

  • I'm pretty sure you can record stereo on the Micro BR without going to these lengths by recording on two tracks simultaneously. I know that's the case for guitar so would assume the same is possible when using the mono mic input.

I haven't use the product but I've done a fair bit of research on it. Can anyone verify if this is possible?

  • Thanks for the idea. i just got a used br micro and am learning its plus/minus features.

unlike my br8 and br1600 it does Not have the

stereo simulator which is an insert effect from a mono imput to simulate stereo recordings.

yesterday got a 1/8 male to xlr input jumper

that will use a single xlr mic from gc.

in retrospect, i could have just used a transformer-but will keep it for use with

my zoom H2 as an option.

    thanks again

  • Is this an advertisement for RadioShack? With all due respect, you've included at least 4 unnecessary pieces. There are adapters that will combine two female 1/4" jacks to a single stereo 1/8" jack.

For the cost of all those pieces, you may as well get a small stereo mic made for such recorders.

  • I was thinking the same thing. This is not the best way to record stereo room sound. If you are wanting to record vocals and guitar at the same time, this would be a better solution. But if you're just wanting to record live room sound, you should by a stereo condenser that's made for that type of situation. It's compact and you don't have to worry about phasing issues.

  • After further though, I'm not sure that buying a double 1/4" jack to a single stereo 1/8" jack would be the way to go. The Micro BR is lightweight and it seems like having the weight of the adapter and 1/4" jacks so close to the input could cause a lot of wear on the connection. The RCA to 1/8" is definitely lighter.

Anyway, if you're just wanting room sound then buying a mini stereo condenser is by far the way to go.

  • I dont know if you already know this but when u go to record, press track one and track two at the same time= stereo recording. is that different from what ur trying to do? Just wondering

  • Right, the Micro BR can record in stereo, but the built-in mic is mono. To get a stereo source into the BR you need to do one of three things --

    1. Hook a stereo mic to the 1/8" input and set input to EXT.

    2. Hook a stereo mixing board tot he BR through the 1/8" jack and set input to LIN.

    3. Use the technique I showed in the video to hook 2 mono mics to the BR through the EXT input.

  • One way to synthesize stereo from a mon source is to EQ each side differently. If you roll off treble on the left and roll off bass on the right, you'll get a stereo pan of bassy sounds seeming to come from the left side. But in general, if you dupe a mono track and pan it left and right, it sounds exactly the same as the original mono, except maybe being slightly louder.

  • Couldn't you just record a track in mono, duplicate it, and pan each track to left and right? Wouldn't that have the same end result?

  • No, that wouldn't have the same effect. a mono recording panned L+R, every item would have some volume in both channels. in a 2-mic stereo recording, sounds originating on the left would be louder and/or arrive sooner in the left channel than in the right channel.

  • Do you have a sound sample of that Boss Micro BR? I'm actually thinking of getting it (i need something more compact than computer/firewire interface :P)

  • There are many demo clips of the Micro BR on YouTube. I decided to go a different route with a "how to." Searching on Micro BR should find you plenty of demo examples.

I find the recording quality to be great, and the built in amp simulation and reverb to be good but not great.

  • i just found a two 1/4 inch jack to 3.5mm jack on ebay for 99p just now, that'l save 2 components. im actually gunna use these guitar jacks into my two amps, so i can get a panning flanger and delay effect down on two tracks. YEAH BABY!

  • Hi, I've a question about and I will be very glad if you help me out. I have this XLR mic (Audio technica ST90) and it was bad manipulated by some person. The 3 pins of the XLR conector were bad solded (the pin 3 was no conected to any thing)so I solded it againg, de yellow cable to the pin 2 (hot) and the red to the pine 3 (cold) so I have nothing else to cold, The pin 1 its no conected to any thing, my question is, is that right?

  • I checked some of my docs, and the wiring diagram for the shure sm58, and here's what I found: Looks like pin 2 is hot (signal +) and pin 3 is cold (signal -). Pin 1 is connected to the braided shield surrounding the two signal wires. The sm58 diagram shows it wired to ground. Do you see a solder mark inside the mic where a wire was soldered to the mic case? Or is there a ground lug of some kind? If you don't solder anything to pin 1, I believe you will defeat the shielding.

  • hey thanks, really thanks. But there`s the thing, the pin 1 was solded to the metal part where the srew's screw on and to one of the only 2 cables. I think this is because the person who manipulated beforme did it. But I can try this right, because I've been using the mic how i told you (with the pin 1 free) and when I move around the mic it gets a interference sound like a noise radio or something. So, I'm gonna try solded the pin 1 to the metal part and I'll tell you what's up. THANKs a lot.

  • Yep, I mention stereo mics in the video and show the Sony mic. Hooking XLR mics to the Micro BR is possible but not obvious, so I thought I would make a How-To for the people who wanted that choice.

  • why bother when you can get a sony stereo mic off ebay for about 10 bucks.

  • Super!

1 more reason to get that BOSS thing.

Hope it'll be available in Ukraine soon.
