I really do not see how this SC defense struggled to defend this option attack when they had an elite linebacker like Willie McGinest anchoring the defense. I guess it must have been bad coaching because most of these players are not wrapping up the ball carrier and they are taking bad angles on a man who has started to run with the ball. Ol Lou out coached every USC coach that ever stepped foot on the field against him from 1985-1996 almost a decade of dominance....and i respect Ol Lou forever
Oh my God please tell me they called a holding penalty on the USC tackle (2:50) during the last pass when ND got that interception. The ND defensive end would have gotten the sack had it not been for the choke hold the offensive lineman put on him. If that was not called that was the worst no call I have ever seen.
Coach Kelly needs to watch this video. You cannot have national pretensions without a dominating rushing offense. Gimmick offenses may win in the pathetic Big East... but not against top ten competition.
wow that was a good one dude. you couldn't even think of your own comeback. i don't hate notre dame. there's no point, they never beat anyone. they're a lovable loser. why the fuck do you think notre dame is relevant?? it's 2010..
@qukarlz No - you just missed it. By virtue of the fact that you, who yourself admitted you have no feelings either way, decided to watch an ND video, and then proceed to comment on it, is a proof in and of itself that ND is relevant - at least to you. And there are a thousand others who are just like you. If we're not relevant and you've got no feelings either way, prove it. Beat it.
i have the right to watch a nd video if i want to it doesn't mean i'm obsessed with them. by the way the only way your logic makes sense is due to the fact that i commented on how usc has owned nd the last decade. that's it.
@qukarlz Why is ND relevant? They have not been a consistent top 10 team in over 20 years, yet they are on national TV every Saturday. Name me one other program in the country that gets that kind of exposure when they aren't good. I will save you the time. NOBODY!!! They are relevant because it isn't about winning or losing, although winning would be preferable. To this day, ND is the most loved and hated and watched football program in the country.
@qukarlz People don't argue the relevence of teams nobody cares about. When was the last time you went to a video of lets say Grambling State, Ball State, etc and made negative comments to their fans. Most likely, you haven't because you don't care about those schools. You say you don't hate ND which is great. However, you coming on this vid to post a negative comment shows you do have an opinion about them you want voiced. Even though negative, your opinion is evidence of relevence.
it is cyclical. USC on top then ND and vice versa. Too difficult to keep a college football team on top for x amount years. it is the delusional fans that think ND has a chance to win any significant game within 5 years. what a joke.
....and there isn't a lot of inspriation of Notre Dame against USC? Notre Dame has been dominated for the last 7 years, and is expected to be dominated again. They have plenty of motivation, and despite not having coaches with direct connections to USC, they do have the No. 10 ranked offense in the land.
nd does not have the same advantages that the uw has in playing usc! most of the new coaches at the uw coached with carroll for years, 2 key players didnt play, and usc totally overlooked the uw. also if the nd faithful were intellectually honest they would know the uw got screwed on the late td in the game from a homer call. pay off the officials and nd might have a chance.
@tuscaniman25 ND has had multiple years (which we choose not to count, unlike, say, Bama) where one poll or another voted us champions. If we counted all of those the number would be around or above 20.
Give the little condoms, I mean Trojans, a little break. Let them have their time in the sun. It goes in swings. Notre Dame dominated USC for 13 years until USC finally got Pete Carrol. Only a matter of time before Notre Dame takes back the series. BTW Notre Dame leads the series all time. USC fans talking all this smack about being so great yet they have 1 NC to show for it. Your split championship doesn't count and everyone knows it. USC wants their name to be Notre Dame..it will never be
I would be a little concerned when Washington held USC to 13 points, and Notre Dame burned them for 30+. I don't think there will be any problem scoring TDs. Notre Dame just needs the ball last.
theres alot more inspiration for usc playing nd than the uw. it will be the complete inspired usc team with no direct coaching insight that the uw had.
@SCBayern Every program has a future!!! Your comment is based on negative bias rather than fact. Truthfully, it has been over 20 years since ND was a consistent title contender and have not had a Heisman winner since about 84 or 85 when Tim Brown won. However, just like USC was horrible in the 80's and early 90's and turned it around, it is possible for ND or any other school. Your comment is intellectually idiotic.
@SCBayern the best thing about this comment is that you made it right before your team got stripped of an entire season of "wins", had a heisman taken away from a player, 20 scholarships taken away, and a 2 year ban from bowl games for running a dirty program. congratulations on that sparkling future you were referring to. USC in the 2000's = Miami Hurricanes in the 1980's. just dirty as a country road.
All right here we are again a year later, the beatdown this year should officially be rock bottom for notre dame. irish fans should be pulling for usc to score two or three tds in the fourth quarter, so the score is like 63-10. that is your best chance to get weis fired, and start fresh in 2009
No cuz we we still own the record in the series for best beat down a 51-0 victory in the coliseum in 1966 as we went on to win the national title that year.
please give me more interesting facts about the 1960's it was such a short time ago. do you honestly think with the talent on the field the past two seasons (trojans 76 irish 3.) that carrol couldn't have stepped on the gas and won by more than 51 points? who thinks notre dame can score an offensive touchdown on sc for the first time in three years this season?
The moral victory will be is when USC has to vacate their wins once they get on probation, watch when they have a 9-4 season they will be put on probation.
actually i dont like either team, and i am old enough to know that Notre Dame is unable to compete because they cant recruit the kind of players that big time schools can. look at the video above the irish never get players like bettis or bryant young, or even rick mirer. 1992 was also the last year that they won a bowl game, which is like a generation ago. just think if you are old enough to remember that game you are probably in your 20's now.
sorry i meant a BCS bowl. those are the games in january that notre dame gets invited to because they are "notre dame" instead of being a deserving Div. 1 college football program. and those are also the games that are over at halftime cuz touchdown jesus is losing by 3 touchdowns.
Heck, Im 25. I still remember the NC we won in 88. And please, "ND cant recruit the kind of players big time schools can." Give me a break. Explain why it is that every top recruit in the country perennially lists ND in the final 3? Until Charlie, though, that's as far as we got. Clausen, Crist, Romine, Cwynar, Rudolph...get used to hearing those names over the next few years.
average score 42-15 i cant believe usc still considers this game a rivalry. is just a yearly notre dame ass pounding. and dont tell me the 2005 game was close, the irish played out of their minds that day. want proof: notre dame was better in '06 than '05 and usc was worse in '06 than '05 and the torjans still beat them by 20.
Actually it was 12 times in a row, plus any of those games we lost that Bush played in might as well be considered a win as the NCAA is gonna slam USC for violations. GO IRISH, also 49-19 in 77 was even better than 66'
You know first hand that it can happen. Syracuse beating us this year (no Gator Bowl) is absolutely nothing to Stanford beating you last year (no BCS title game).
I would say things look good for you guys. Home team. Senior night. Heavily favored. What could possibly go wrong?
Reggie Brooks is one of my favorite All-Time Irish players. He was electrifying and always making the big play in the biggest games. This game was perhaps Reggie Brooks finest performance. He is an All-Time Irish Great!
