  • HOw long do you cook the peas?

  • @TheGpmdesigns This is not a flip remark but cook the peas until they are done. LOL. It depends on how you like your peas. I cook mine until they are tender but not mushy. I need to make a new video - eventually. O_O

  • @thecreativelady I just purchased the pressure cooker...I have never cooked blackeyed peas wasn't sure if there was a time limit or tenderness...smarty pants...LOL...soaking beans now...

  • @TheGpmdesigns I also soak the peas overnight before cooking them.

  • Everything looks great. I don't know why I never thought of cooking my cabbage in the PC. Can I ask you what the water challenge consist of. Thanks again for sharing. Happy New Year.

  • @saywhatsaywhat Thanks! Happy New Year to you too!

The water challenge lasts for 28 days and is designed to increase your water intake and to avoid sodas and other beverages.

  • omg!! I should've came over!! looking good..Girl at the end you had me rolling it look like you was ready to chow down!! Yum Yum..Happy New Year

  • @trecey920 Girl, stop on by. I'll leave the light on for ya! Considering your cooking videos, you know I had to come with it! I have like what. . . 3 cooking videos and you have

    like . . .3000? LOL!

  • @thecreativelady LOL @ 3000! hahahahaha I don't have that many..lol. You came with it! I was like OMG!! Black Eyed Peas!! Cabbage and some Smoked hammocks and Cornbread..eat'em up YUM!!

  • Wait how the heck did I miss this vid?!?!

Guurrrrrll I had the cabbage and peas and I was so full! Its always a tradition in my family also to eat it as mama's house LOL

That first part of the vid made me feel like I was in Ms........wait I am in MS LMBO!!!!

  • @missthis897 LOL. Girl, I had to represent The 'Sip.

Cabbage and peas is the tradition. Have you heard the "tradition" about not washing clothes on New Year's Day or am I the only one?

  • love this video...us southern gals know how to eat huh? omg i know how u feel about that cornbread...always seems to get by me too! and for that jiffy mix is my best friend! have a blessed 2012 <3

  • @naturallyTRU17 You know it. Maybe one day I'll become a Vegan but for now. . .

I like Jiffy for the convenience but sometimes it's too sweet. Wishing you blessings for 2012 and beyond!

  • You are dead wrong from 6:00 on. LOL! You meal looked great! I JUST finished eating ribs, garlic potatoes and broccoli and I STILL want some your peas and sausage. Does that make me greedy or hongry? I have never used a pressure cooker b/c I know several "inexperienced" people who have gotten burned really bad. Maybe one day....

  • @20pearlsNcurls Sorry girl! I could not resist 6:00! I love food so I guess I'm greedy cuz I could eat after a full meal too - even if it's only a nibble! I used to be afraid of pressure cookers too. But my Mom taught me how to use it. I'm going to do a tutorial on the Presto brand one that I have. Thanks for tweeting my video!

  • FYI... I use the bone from my Christmas ham in my blackeye peas on New Year's Day. It is the bone with the residual ham on the bone and it makes really good flavor in your peas too.

  • @katty40ify Alright now. . . talk to me! I love bones too. They do bring the favor that you can't get from a box or can for real! Thanks for the tip.

  • i agree with your mom, I always use the stem of the cabbage. It has the best flavor of the entire cabbage and really helps to give your leaves flavor. Love cabbage! Yummy...

  • @katty40ify Cabbage is my favorite vegetable too. I don't know why I'm always confused whether to use the stem of the cabbage. I think I want a green pot of cabbage. But it turned out great.

  • Yummmmm!

  • @sophisticatedtw Exactly!

  • i know you did not break out the pressure cooker... that is me !!!! I use mine all the time - aint nothing like them!!! I use them for cooking smoked turkey. We have traditional New Years dinner as well!!! I appreciate your putting this up.. We keep it real on New Years as well :) Happy New Year always love your Vids!

  • @StopDropnRollon Girl, if we had to suddenly evacuate, I would definitely squeeze my pressure cooker on the fire truck, raft, helicopter, whatever! I love using it. You already know how much it cuts down on cooking time and on top of that, makes the food tender! A Winner!

I enjoyed sharing the video and I appreciate you for watching and commenting. The New Year's Tradition are a must! Being real is all I know!

  • Girl..I told you...you know I needed to learn how to make black eyed peas w/o the hamhocks...girl that looks so good...

  • @TheGpmdesigns You're all the way vegan? There may be a flavorful meat substitute you can use. My mom put okra in hers but I don't. Girl, believe me, they were good. But cooking them is easy. Just pick through the bad beans and soak overnight. I use the pressure cooker but they can be cooked on low to medium until tender. I plan to eat more beans as meat a substitute for tacos, etc. We'll see! MokoBrownVegan has some great tips and recipes too.

  • I hope you saved me some.!!!!! LOL!!!

  • @fergi421 I got you covered! LOL!

  • Girl I made may black peas for New Years day I using pork hock for seasoning it was so good. Loved it!! Your dinner looked wonderful. Happy New Year! Be Blessed~~

  • @Vanurse09 I'm hungry just talking about black eye peas! That pork hock really adds flavor to the dish. I wish you the best in 2012. Thanks for stopping by.

  • @NgoziLady Hey now! Country girls unite! The cabbage WAS good. My husband ended up making some edible corn muffins! LOL!

  • oh girllll, you need to invite me to your house!!! i have always dreamed of a good southern dinner, i have never had one obviously!! hahaha, last coke!! :) Happy New Year!! :)

  • @louloumatou Stop on by!

  • Hello sis : ) Fantastic meal. I hope this isnt your last time sharing a recipe or two. Why am I afraid of a pressure cooker? I see them used on the foodnetwork all the time.

  • @MoNaturalButterfly You are right to be apprehensive about the pressure cooker. You have to know how to handle one as each brand works differently. I only know this brand and would be timid about trying a different one. I'll do a dedicated tutorial on the one I have. I've just noticed chefs on Food Network using pressure cookers too.

I do plan to upload more cooking videos! Thanks for your interest.

  • i need to get me a pressure cooker now huh?

  • @teaundra I love mine! It's perfect for the person who needs to get something cooked fast!

  • were did you get thgt shirt. I need that in my closet!

  • @Winteel LOL! The story of my life! I've had that tshirt for a very long time. I don't remember the store but do remember it was a "teenie bopper" store.

  • @Barginjunkie69 Hey BJ! Thank you. I know you can cook up some vittles too!

  • I don't eat pork, but yours looks good.

  • @whoissugar Thank you for commenting even though you don't eat pork. From the rooter to the tooter, he don't stand a chance!

  • MMMM! That looks good! I'm a Southerner too and honey, my mouth was watering for those hocks. That's some good stuff. Thanks for sharing.

  • @lvnmykinks Thanks Southerner! Those hocks were smoked just right and right on the money! I'm glad you were able to enjoy my virtual meal! I appreciate you for watching and commenting!

  • So how'd the corn muffins taste? Also, do you like your cornbread sweet or savory?

  • @cocoapeach Girl, they were hard as ROCKS!!! I missed putting the vegetable oil in trying to hurry and cook and record for YouTube!

  • @cocoapeach I like "regular" bread. I am not a huge fan of sweet cornbread. LOL, if I want sweet bread, I eat cake!

  • LOVE this video lol. BTW my dad LOVES his pressure cooker ha ha.

  • @cocoapeach Thanks for the love! Your dad knows what time it is! The pressure cooker is a cooks best friend. I have cooked great food in a few minutes and it's always tender! I've even started with rock hard frozen solid food and dinner was ready less than an hour!
