To all of you ignorant people, this is not an American Line. This is German. Therefore, i suggest you learn the differences between the breed types before you start making idiotic comments that have nothing to do with the given video. Your statements are not valid here.
@Eluuna German show dogs do have slight angulation as illustrated with this lovely dog. However, if one wants to be true to the working nature and original breed intent one only need look back at Dogs like my grandfathers from the 1940's & 50's. They are almost perfectly straight. Stay away from Show GSD period! Do not condone this perverse anatomical defect perpetuated & exaggerated by Show lines, especially the Stupid Americans & their ideas of the breed.
@OdinsCloud In my eyes any credibility that you had just washed away with that last comment, there are bad examples of the breed in all countries. This dog does not have slight angulation, it has moderate. And it's body is a little too long for my liking. But is not as roached as many German Show Lines are, so that is a plus in my book. The dogs that your grandfather had most likely closely resemble the German Shepherd working line of today. They pretty much look like the dogs of the mid 1900's.
@OdinsCloud My Grandfather also had German Shepherds before they were mangled into what they are today, straight out of Germany too as that was his country. Needless to say he passed his love of the breed onto us, and my family work to preserve the working lines today in his honor. And for the well being of the breed as a whole.
@Eluuna Well if the comment you refer to is the one regarding Americans I sadly have to stand by it. I was born & raised in the USA, 5 generation on my mother side. I lived & worked in Austria, Germany for 7 years and then moved back to the states. After two years in the states I returned to Europe permanently.
@OdinsCloud Not all of us are stupid.. some, but not all. I am certainly not stupid. I've actually considered moving to Europe at one point, but i decided against it for trivial reasons. I'll stay here for a few more years, but if crap hits the fan more so than it already has, then i'll probably leave anyway. What is your biggest reason for moving back to the EU afterwards? If you don't mind me asking of course. You can pm me if you'd like.
It isn't just Americans ruining the German Shepherd Dog, but GERMANS as well! Those greedy bastards have promoted "looks" over "workability" at the Sieger shows, and this has resulted in breeders from all around the world doing this.
That's rude, don't say "Americans" because all of us aren't like those dirt bags that want dogs to fight/bite/kill. Just because you see some loser Americans doesn't mean good ones don't exist >.> so next time just say "dirt bags" cause that's what they are.
This dog has very, very poor angulated rear legs, and has a very narrow chest. He also looks feminine despite being a male dog. The American showline is a ruined representation of this breed. The working lines are closer to the original intention of this breed
I think what your trying to say is that the ones with the slanted back are from showbreeders, and the ones with straight back are from working breeders, like detection, protection, obedience stuff like that. They breed for the purpose of the dog not the looks.
the droopy but was bred into them once they came over from germany. for some reason it's "desirable." GSDs from germany don't have that because they're purpose is for working. That's why cops use german bred ones. Mine's second generation in america and not bred with any americans so her butt stands nice and tall.
hehe it looks heaps funny cuz its back legs are shorter than the front ones hehehe. i feel sad because i found out that my gSD can't be in show cuz he has a floppy ear! iz soo cute though!! heheheheh
There is no such thing as a "pure breed" besides what was arbitrarily created in order to make the dog look pretty. Meanwhile, their health is often sacrificed in order to satisfy the petty hobby started by the rich and famous of the early 1900's. Do some research on the subject.
What is the weight and height of this dog at present day. Very beautiful congrats on owning such a great specimen of the best breed of dogs on this planet :)
The upper arm is slightly short and should be better angled, also slightly elongated....excellent type though and obviously with impeccable temperament AND character. Above all enjoy this very good example of the breed.
Hi Helen, Nice dogs and super movement. Did u show him yet or not. I also have dogs from norway, Esco av Thorarin & Skeidar's ISO are here with me in Pakistan

Wer solche nach hinten abfallende Hunde züchtet oder kauft gehört einfach in den Knast! Oder am besten vorher noch in die dumme Fresse treten!

uggggh completely deformed looks like a hyena
stick with working lines- the founder, Max von Stephanitz, wanted the GSD to remain a sound, working dog
maximum411 1 year ago 4
@maximum411 Exactly. The German Shepherds we had didn't have the roached backs or sloped backs.
They were all from the old bloodlines(the ones that were bred from 1899 to the 1960's, before the division of the bloodlines).

good lines. strict laws. good breeders. Germany's born GSD are perfect for your breedlines

why isnt my german shepherds back as low as that
jzoom45 2 years ago
there are two different kinds, the ones with lower backs and the ones with straight backs.
(I'm not sure if those are the correct names for it, or if there even are any words for it!)
The straight backs are the best looking imo.

Hes being trained for show, he is taught to moveout and lean into the collar, they dont need to heel in the confirmation ring.
hearingdoctor 3 years ago
@triggermiki This is the proper way to train a dog for show. Your method is correct for obedience but not for show.
