I looked this up as I was reading The Lives of the Great Composers in the section on Schoenberg and I must say that while it's interesting it's something I would never pay to see.
I loved the orchestral score, and I'm by no means a musical conservative, but seeing as opera is drama married to music and meant to have an audience, shouldn't the audience be taken into account at least a bit? I can't imagine being in the room where someone was wailing this at full volume without physical pain.
This version of Pierrot Lunaire was directed by Thom Sokoloski and performed by Fides Krucker. Rodolf Werthen conducted. Another version of this production was produced by Autumn Leaf Performance in 2000 (Toronto).
the "buzzing, blooming confusion" made aural -Herr Schoenberg (if that really is your name, Fritz), you have made Modern Music approachable, even to a cretin like me.....

I'm just curious, is this difficult to sing or play? It just seems like playing atonal music would be difficult if you grew up playing anything but.

@setmit Yes, it's super difficult to both sing and play--unless you have perfect pitch, in which case it's only very difficult.

That woman in the black dress is really scary! I guess it goes with the haunting atonality. Weird!
