  • no one can listwen to FL sing this and not be moved. i'm sure he was the first one to record it. saw him sing it on the old mike douglas show.

  • Beautifully sung by super singer

  • He puts so much emotion into this it gives me the chills, R.I.P., Frankie!

  • LLoyd, I thank you very sincerely for these words!

  • this is the best version I have heard,Did Frankie record this first,????

  • Thank you! Your question I can't reply, sorry!

  • written by marty robbins but frankie laine recored it first in1969 then marty recored it the same then of course elvis sung it in 1973.

  • just perfect!

  • @studeystudebaker50 Marty Robbins wrote it, gave it to Frankie, then later released it himself!

  • @studeystudebaker50 I lived in Nashville for a long time and I have been told several versions of this story, the one that I think is the most accurate is... Marty had not heard Frankie, one of His favorite singers with anything new for a while. He had written this song but never recorded it so he pitched it to Frankie; the rest as they say is history. This song was one of Franky Lane's biggest hits EVER. Then many greats like Elvis and others recorded it before Marty finally did.

  • good job!

  • i love old frankie laine

  • Fabulous
