@BillyT4evr Bullshit. The REPORTING of crimes has been on a decline, not the crime itself. I know this from my own and my friends and family experience. We don't report brake-ins to our cars and homes anymore, because the Police in this city had taught us that they cannot do anything anyway. It is one of the first statements they make when you call them. They tell you to come to the station and file a report. So what good is it to report it?!
@nomader999 That does not represent the rest of Canada very well I had a break in in my families home in Hamilton and the cops were there in seconds, my grandparents had a break in, in there home and the police arrived there before the criminals got down the drive way. Dont judge the rest of Canada due to a few bad cops sir.
@BillyT4evr GTA is only about 6 to 8 million people. That's roughly a quarter to a third of all Canadians. I think I can judge by that alone. You don't know what it is like in the rest of Canada either. Fact is that Vancouver and Victoria are some of the most dangerous cities in this country. Winnipeg is the Miami of the north ( in crime only unfortunately) , Regina is the most crime ridden city in Canada. As for TO? When I moved here in 1986 there were two, three shootings a year.
@BillyT4evr ...and now we have a shooting every single day. On a good weekend two or three, plus the stabbings and home invasions etc. There were only three hundred incidents of reported fire arm discharges in this city last year. What changed over the years is the emergency intensive care units in hospitals like the Sunnybrook. They save a lot of people from dieing as e result of gunshot or stab wounds.
@nomader999 I totally agree with you on all points on this our country has been brought down hill since Piere Trudeau and both the liberals and the conservatives have screwed us...a man got on a bus hacked another man's head off and then does no time because they claimed he forgot to take his meds...he was also an imigrant that wasn't on meds I must add and the liberal mindset baby sat him but Brian Mulrooney sold us out to the USA the liberals pass imorality into laws!
@BillyT4evr Additionally: Those that like to quote a decline in crime statistics should compare them with those from the fifties and sixties, not the nineties. There are many more criminals and crazies on our streets due to past Liberal policies toward criminals and mentally ill. There are people pushed from subway platforms in TO every single year. !) years ago my dear friend, a beautiful, smart, young woman was pushed off the platform by a mental patient. He was out on the streets in 1 yr
@BillyT4evr .. I don't have an agenda. I'm neither Liberal not Conservative, and anyway is there a difference?
I am just expressing my personal experiences and experiences of my peers. You on the other hand probably live in an Ivory Tower somewhere in Forest Hill or perhaps you're writing from the gold furnished offices of the CBC. I can't imagine that you are regular folk judging by the things you wrote sir.
@nomader999 for all I know you could be living in the USA or Europe so dont assume Im a well off person and besides if you are well off it doesnt mean you are any less likely to be a victim of crime. All I am saying is for people not to judge the rest of Canada due to one persons expierence that may very well not be true.
@BillyT4evr And all I am saying is that it is not a "one persons experience" my friend. Let's end this debate, because I see it is not going anywhere. We must be living on opposite poles my friend - I live in the REAL world.
@BillyT4evr I assume no such thing. However I do see who is cheering Ignatiev so by that alone I can assume a lot of things about you sir. However it is not my intention to make this personal. Forgive me if I came across that way.
@mattiscool5678 straight from a campaign commercial. Truly didn't believe anyone bought that crap. Take a look at the actual commercials themselves, the comment about America being Ignatieff's home is totally out of context and was several days after 9/11. For the Harper government to exploit Igantieff's senstivity to that event is plain disgusting.
Stephane Dion was about to kick Harpers Butt when he got backstabbed by Ignatieff . What can you do about hostile takeover of the liberal party..we people sure where not asked. I guess he wanted to have the job sooo badly even if he supports harper in everything !!.they need to clean house...before I ever vote for them again.
@omega4chimp It's not insanity, it's looking closely. You notice how many of their disagreements are about policy matters? And how at the end they always get something done by having the two parties work together on it? That simply does not happen here. Also, except for Bachmann (there's one in every family), Minnesotan politicians tend to be nicer and more moderate.
Pretty lame if you ask me...how can anything important get said or any progress be made when all these people have their own interests first and foremost.
None of them could or would ever admit to a mistake as it would cost them their job...so even when they're wrong they claim to be right and its not the one who is most often right that wins, but the one that can APPEAR most often right.
Nothing will ever get done if its left up to the politicians...its up to the people and it always will be.

Harper tightens up on Canadian law and punishing criminals yet for the last 50 years crime rates have been on a nosedive.
