  • If it was an ordinary citizen he would have gotten a heavy jail sentence. Ono is also from a very wealthy family... These "Beatles" aren't your ordinary "working class artists" -- Rich & powerful businessmen who are treated w/different rules. Had they locked him up for 2 years, it may have started a well funded pot law decriminalization movement... だからthey should have!!!

  • That was HUGE matter in 1980. Paul did not concert at this time.

All Japanese fans cried and almost crazy situation. Paul did not hate Japan

and Japanese people. In fact, he came in 1990 and many time came to Japan.

In 1980 (Dec) John was killed so that Paul spent terrible year at this time.

However Paul recovered and keep playing even now. When I was 15 years old

I remember HUGE SHOCKED AND CRIED WITH ALL FANS.

Still I listen Pail and the Beatles. Japanese fans loved Linda especially.

  • I just watched a video of Paul from 1980 in which he said the Japanese guards treated him well.

  • Damn, Macca!

What were you thinking: 2 bigass baggies? In your luggage?? "Personal Use"???

Next time, stuff the dimebags in the Hofner! They'll never look there? LOL

  • Hero.

  • 7.7 ounces? I'm not even sure Bob Marley could go through that much pot in two weeks.

  • Fascinating footage as it shows McCartney's arrival just before the bust. Imagine being one of those fans waiting to hand him a bunch of flowers in the hope of bagging an autograph... and he comes into the lobby in handcuffs!

  • I wish I could smile when I get arrested

  • pot = music = peace :P

    beatles forever

  • 6:35 Oh, that's the night that he spent without Linda right?

  • How much pot was he planning to smoke? Those were big bags!

  • bunch of ungrateful bastards, jailing a visiting performer who was bringing peace to Japan. it's not the people's fault, but that government is every bit as corrupt and wrong as ours in the west.

  • They do not have VIP pass at custom services in Japan...? STRANGE ....

  • and look at that, while he was getting into the cop car he was......smiling????? wtf?

  • nice footage.

    poor cannabis so misunderstood.

  • Paul is GOD and he is ABSOLUTELY free to smoke anything he wishes!those japanese assholes should go and fuck themselves

  • What was John's reaction this? He must have been upset thinking that Paul may have had to do some serious time.

  • @Burco1 I read (and naturally I don't believe everything I read) that John laughed when he heard the guards were making Paul sing "Yesterday" in his jail cell. I thought I remember reading some quote from John where he said all Paul had to do was make a call to Yoko and she could have him out in a second, but that Paul was too proud. Whether any of that is true I have no idea.

  • @August8th1969 I remember this time period so well. I used to deliver newspapers in NY as a teenager and McCartneys arrest was big news for a week. And of course John's murder later that year was even bigger news and very sad.

  • @Burco1 Yes, John's murder was very sad. I remember going to bed early that night (around 10:00 p.m.) and being woken up around 2:00 a.m. by my older sister who told me John had been murdered. I got up and listened to the various radio stations until it was time to go to school (I was a senior in high school at the time [my SN is the date the Abbey Road crossing picture was taken]). Anyhow, watching this video is a bit painful as well. I don't like seeing Paul in handcuffs.

  • It should be noted that John & Yoko got the biggest laugh from this.

  • He should had to get the same what any other man would get for smuggling drugs.

10 days is a laugh comparing to that 6 years what he would deserve.

  • :( i hate to see paul like this! its making me cry!

  • the yanks should off droped a few more nucs on em ,& then drop the rest on russia,

  • @thefugitive1965 That's why we had to go in & sort out Japan in WWII & flatten it. Cause they were so cruel, mean & evil. They were negotiating on one day with America for peace & the very next day, they bombed Pearl Harbor & killed 3,000 of Americas finest soilders. They then captured many Islands in the Pacific to control the sea lanes. They planned to resist the Allies to the last man & woman & (all) die if they had to. So we had to go in.

  • he is lucky he only got 10 days. if it was someone else they would still be in jail in Japan.

  • @thefugitive1965 You're so right! Japans legal & prison system is modeled after the WWII prisoner camps. There, people were liberally experimented on & routinely tortured to death (that's historical fact). If they snare you, you're tried by a military tribunal (not civilian). You can spend many years in jail on a minor charge. Most appeals fail ( a documented fact). So think carefully before you visit Japan. You have no rights there!!! Their mentality is still 17th century regarding your rights.

  • 7 Ounces? hahaha That's crazy. What was he thinking?

  • I knew he did weed in the 60s but, come on!

  • Seven ounces is a lot of weed!

  • ポール!ポール!ポール!ポール!ポール!ポール!ポール!ポール!ポール!ポール!ポール!ポール!ポール!ポール!ポール!ポール!ポール!ポール!ポール! hahaha

  • This is embbarassing.

  • wouldnt put it past yoko to get him busted

  • I dont think she did.

  • Must of been just before Lennon died....

  • Apparently he was in New York the day before he went to jail and offered John some of the pot.John said no because he was upset Paul was staying at a hotel he stayed at.John thought it would give the room bad karma.

  • If I were Paul, I would have NEVER stepped foot in Japan again!

  • you are right

  • I dont understand Paul's thinking here. He had over 7 ounces of smoke in his posession. Was he just stupid that day or did he think he could get away with it since he was a Beatle? Either way, what's the big deal. It was only smoke, not the big H.

  • He said he thought he could get away with it.

  • Poor people who had bought tickets!.

  • oh thanks for this amazing footage. those japanese. why they are so serious about some pot? this isn't a crime or what.

    anyway. amazing footage :)
