build a 40ft sqare out of concrete and steel with 4ft thick walls put an 8 foot hole in the top and put a mile long nylon tube over the hole lower it over the leak and suck the oil out of the tube at the surface.

I think people are also not prepared to take on their own fair share of the blame. US car culture and dependence on oil leads to people drilling in 1500 metres of water (about 4500 ft). When you drill in 1500 metres of water mistakes happen. I wish Americans, and people right around the world would take on some of the blame due to their addiction to oil. Its easy to blame a big oil company, its harder to look in the mirror and question the ethics of the person you see.

I get the feeling that this video does not show the main part of the leak. I've read reports of a volcano-like structure that is spilling out more than 100,000 gallons of oil every single day. BP probably released this video in hopes of making people think the disaster is less serious than it actually is.

then why does obama stress BRITISH petrolium? i concede that the us forces do an awful lot of good in the world and are taken for granted. would we have beat the germans without the intervention of the usa? not likley. but i feel that the usa is scrabbling about trying to aportion blame,with obama p.r. ing his arse off. i reiterate that the usa has to look inwardly at its own demand for oil. BP like any other company does not have a magic wand to sort it out.

@bklufc im not expecting BP to magically shake a hand at the spill and make it all go back underground, however its quite obvious that the only thing holding up containment and capping of the spill is essentially money. as i would expect (but never want) any billion dollar corporation to do, they are likely trying to figure out a way to contain and collect the oil without sealing off a multi-billion dollar oil well permanently. its not hard to imagine is it?

@itsme78932 of course its not easy but is it really 2 months difficult? for something pumping out that much oil that fast one would think that a solution must be found with a little more urgency than it is now. with all the technology that is available to us i find it difficult to believe that what could soon be a global environmental disaster once that oil hits the gulf stream cant be sealed up unless it were for some political/monetary reason.

@bklufc the US' population is about 5 or 6 times the size of the UK, so obviously it would have a larger demand by quantity, not by percentage for oil. if you take a look at the demand for fossil fuels in industrial giant China you will see a high demand as well. the british are just as arrogant if not more than any american. BP is a british company and their lack of preparation and prevention of this accident cant be pinned on a foreign country. its pure negligence on the company's behalf.

(39/40%) PER HEAD OF POPULATION,THE USA IS THE LARGEST CONSUMER OF OIL BY A MILE. you gave the vietnamese 100 million to clean up the agent orange that killed the vietnamese countryside and its people. you got BILLIONS (13?) to compensate your citizens and clean up? hypocrisy on a biblicle scale. the usa is an absolute discrace. your avarage chinese citizen does not drive a 3 ltre engined car.

@bklufc sorry but you are wrong, the rig was run by BP, a british company, owned by Transocean, a swiss company, and the rig itself was built by Hyundai, a korean company. you sound like a typical angry anti-american brit. BP fucked up. now BP needs to clean it up, not stand around with their thumbs up their asses.

@bklufc how is it that it only matters to us on our own doorstep? the US jumps into most foreign affairs with even the slightest urge from the UN. take the somalian and rwandan genocides for example. or the indonesian tsunami. or how about the recent haati quake? whenever something horrible happens, the US is always on the scene to help. not only does the US voluntarily help in most cases, but it is EXPECTED to. once these events are over however people are always quick to turn on the US.

@bklufc and i have not even given the slightest hint that i'm "tantruming" as you say. ive been quite civil. your own attitude however speaks for itself. the fact still boils down to BP was negligent and needs to clean up their own mess. thats on a PROFESSIONAL level. not a political level. nationalities aside, if it wasn't BP and instead it was another oil company i would STILL expect them to clean up their own mess. it has nothing to do with being british or american.
