I was the Pilot of the plane that day.....didnt land long.....and this was not the maiden flight......it had been flown before.
The wheel shafts came loose from the gear. We elected to land in the tall grass.......to save damage to the plane. All that was hurt, was one gear slightly bent, and a fairing pulled loose.
He repaired the damage, and we flew again in the fall. Larry has done a wonderfull job!
I took this video after flying in a spot landing contest at Morrison Rockwood IL State park. The prop is a 32" wood one. The club contest director was flying it for one of their member's maiden flight. On take off both main wheels and shafts dropped off into the bean field.
The pilot immediately choose to land in the weeds to keep the landing gear stubs from digging into their crabgrass field. Which saved the airplane from damage.
omg. they make a big deal of it. pick it up and carry it out . fucking douche bags
